1x tire wear. 1x fuel consumption. 8 laps. No required pit stops. No weather. No strategy. The only decision to make in this final round is the colour of the car.

I've done some laps in Free Practice. My best laps are in the 2:20.9s. Not great. Not terrible. I'm not expecting much from this round. If I can improve on my worst score, I'll consider it a win.

Have fun practicing. See you on Saturday.

Short shifting out of the corners to prevent front wheel spin and revving it out on the straights is what the WR is doing.

If I remember correctly only Degner 2, the hairpin and Casio Triangle at the end are exited in 3rd. All others in 4th. Not bogging down and also not wasting time because of the very slow shifts is key here. I remember the daily race being quite fun.

Have you guys been able to replicate the car to use it in lobbies? I think they use the high turbo, sports suspension (at least), and all the engine and weight reduction upgrades, but anyway any combination I've done wit that 544.94pp limit is 2 seconds slower than the specified car

Iirc this was tried back when it was a daily race but was impossible with available tuning parts. You might be able to find something in the daily race thread or mayyybe there was even a dedicated thread to this (very faintly remember something like this).

Do you do the shift then lift thing with the throttle to account for the manual, like hit the paddle lift then go wide open?

The car has a K24A-Civic swap installed. Specs using Data Logger's Car Info A panel:

I just shift up before accelerating our of the corner. So no if I do a regular shift due to hitting the redline. I might be misunderstanding though. Not super knowledgeable about cars and racing techniques IRL.

I'd like to add to your question, can I practice the "false start check" start anywhere?
Custom race i suppose. I personally use the parking brake, it works for keeping you put but i feel like it releases faster than the pedal.

Also there is a lot of useful info in " beyond the apex" including the proper launch process.

It’s a technique in the older manual cars to account for the fact that when you push the clutch you lift off the throttle in real life. Calister mentioned it in the video for round 1 in the Sauber. Basically you click the paddle shifter immediately lift off the throttle then immediately back on. The game does it for you but according to the interwebs it’s faster for upshifts.

Ha! I was just logging in to ask the same.👍

Not come across this type of race in the NC or MC.

I didn't realise BoP was off, so kept upgrading car, I think it was on PP 500+ and still chronically slow vs the PP 315 on the event.

When I spotted BoP, took it off and now car's stupidly fast (relatively). I tried to reset everything off, but now have all the weight reduction stages applied and can't remove.

Need to simulate grid start too!!

Only done 2x grid starts and they were disastrous (IIR - in Group C and X2019) - Torque steered around and off. I don't think the Abarth will be prone to that happening!

With Fuel x1, does the race have fuel weight applied too? ie will the car run the same as free practice and weight not feature or will it be a factor and everyone piles off like usual as they're expecting the car to handle the same as in FP?

Am I losing the plot...

I'm looking at your attached screen shot.. where is that info on panel A? I'm looking in GT7 too. Just car setup no mention of engine swap???

I swapped the Civic engine, it matches perfectly the bhp and weight, after applying the 70% restriction in ECU and power. And I also matched the suspension and differential setup, but the car behaves very differently from the specified car, it's very difficult to drive, it oversteers a lot and I was more than 10 seconds slower in it. Don't know what I'm doing wrong here. Also the engine sounds different.

If I'm not mistaken, in free practice the car has no fuel weight. In race it does and it makes the car solower.

What about the track surface temperature? It never occurred to me that it might make much difference. Temp definitely matters in reality ya know.

What about the track surface temperature?
It is a thing in GT7. In most races, it isn't an issue, but we've had some GTWS rounds -- I'm thinking of a Gr.3 one we had at Autopolis on RS tires -- where the tread wears much faster once they exceed a certain temperature.

Womble did a good investigation about it here:

Added: Just to be clear, since this round's race is at Suzuka, where the temperatures don't get that high, and we are on RH tires, which have a higher temperature threshold than RSs, I don't expect it will be an issue this round.

I guess i was thinking more about the surface temp while setting up a custom race or practice session for the suzuka race. I know that we cannot set a specific track temperature but im sure P.D. would love to throw little twists into this last round.

This combo is so fun.

3 attempts today.

Attempt 1 Qualified 2nd finished 2nd. Just a nice run start to finish. 62 points

Attempt 2 Qualified 3rd finished 4th. Was pushed to pass early lap one, and then taken out on the straight where the penalty zone is and fell to 9th. Worked my way back up to 2nd (bit of push to pass on the guy who did it to me first lap on the same corner) on the last lap, and then he decides to ram me at the hairpin. 62 points.

Attempt 3 Qualified 2nd (only .01s off pole) finished 2nd. Fell to 3rd at 130r on lap 2, but got back up to 2nd the very next lap. 1st pulled away so I concentrated on the cars behind, but I stuffed myself up a few times. Luckily held on and took 222 points.

That's me for the day. Very happy with it.

It's a bloodbath out there.

GT2 1st Slot in EMEA for 150 pts.

Q1 by a mile. Even beat my PB by doing a 19.5.

1st lap:

Ultimately P9. Somehow I never found my rythm in the race. Maybe the added fuel weight changes the handling? But then again ! qualifying went great. Weird experience.

That's a bummer about your race. Qualifying only has tire wear enabled, not fuel. You only get fuel weight effects in the race. That could be what you were noticing.

I'm a little worried about the fuel weight effects myself, since all of my practice for this round has been in Free Practice where it is disabled. It can have a big effect on how the car handles. If I can keep my wits about me in the first couple laps, I'll brake a hair earlier than usual into the corners to avoid running off the track. We'll see if I can remember, though. There is usually a lot of chaos in the first lap of any race at Suzuka.

Best of luck to everybody who has yet to race!

Uneventful on the whole.

Weight diff only really affected me in T2 (2nd apex of 'First Corner\First Turn')

135 points all B's

3rd out the gate, so no fighting for clean lap, though guy infront should just hang up his boots and kept going off in front of me. Fortunately I was on a slower lap each time, so was able to sacrifice it and back off again🤦‍♂️

Q2 .3 off pole, with a 2:19.5

Good start, G2,TC1 and HB release

Could have got the lead 1st corner but let them through.

Got hit wide L2,T2 down to P4, but replay was choppy so could put that as a glitch hit, but they'd dive bombed from 4th T1, and I wouldn't say they were in control.

Got hit wide again next lap.

Raced with 3rd, who kept making a mess of Spoon exit.. got a rub past on the inside as they went wide and tried to cut back in.

Forcefully retook me T2 next lap with a nudge, but with a penalty over them, so stuck on their rear until they served it🤣🤣

Pulled away from 4th, who also got a couple more penalties.

Finished 3rd 6.5s behind. For 124points

If wasn't for the children drivers in Rd4, I might have been promoted in to A. So what about some kinda penalty system?...

GT2 EMEA 1st slot low A/S lobby 271 up for grabs, 8 on the doors

Pulled a 2.19.561 in Qualifying which was enough for 3rd (1st was nearly 1s faster).

Race start, handbrake, TC1, 2nd gear, full revs and got past P2 on the start so seems like the way to go. Then messed up Denger 1, which led to messing up Denger 2 so down to 6th. 1st started pulling away but the group from 2-6 all had a similar pace and broke away from everyone behind. There was some great clean racing for the rest of the race - positions were only changed when mistakes were made, getting me to 3rd, then on the last lap I messed up 130R, down to 4th, but 3rd had a 0.5 pen which gave me back 3rd for 257, which I am very happy with.

Struggled with consistency in practicing this, and also it didn't help that Daily C was also Suzuka so going from Gr.3 to Gr.eat Understeer was a challenge but really enjoyed the race and the other drivers in the GT2 top tier group all drove so cleanly and respectfully but still hard it was one of those races that reminded me why I still play.

Good luck to those still to race!

Did my race, Q8, P6 - was punted off at the last chicane and stone dead last end of L2. Making a habit of these recovery drives and knew there would be definite carnage ahead. So it proved all they all slowly killed each other and I had good race pace. Was a definite split between P1 who was miles ahead, P2-5 who were all fighting and then 8 or so seconds to P6. Was P6 going into lap 7 and made a bit of a dent but ultimately finished 3 secs ahead of P7 and 4 behind P5. Again worked out the ramming cost me around 12 seconds which would have been easily enough for 2nd.

Another 67 points in the bag which overwrites my terrible first race and leaves me a just below halfway up B rank which being honest is probably my level. A rated times are basically not possible for me

Did another run. GT2 EMEA slot 3, top split for 260 points this time.

Some terrible sportsmanship once again.

Q5 with a 19.9 this time. Pole sitter with a 19.1, my 19.5 from the first race would have been good for a close 2nd.

Well, after missing the apex on the first part of the esses and compromising my line and speed I got rear ended into the final right hander and only barely avoided going off. Of course then the red car gladly used me as a bumper as unfortunately a ton of dirty drivers seem to be doing. While not going off track completely this left my in P13 at the end of lap 1.

1000036281.webp

The next incident of blood bathing fortunately gifted me 3 places since the black car decided to take all 3 of them out.

1000036283.webp

At the end of that lap I was awarded another spot after the light blue car cheekily avoided this driver who was hell bent on obliterating them. This miss sent them straight into the tires which gifted me 9th place.

1000036284.webp

The final 2 laps finally were some proper racing. P Boni behind me clearly had better pace and was persistently but cleanly putting pressure on me. After making one of my many mistakes they made a clean pass.

Ultimately P10 which is fine with me.

Unfortunately these races went like most of my races go. Decent time trialing and qualifying but way too inconsistent through the many laps of a race and also very error prone with traffic all around forcing me to adjust my lines.

Unlike many others though I don't just blindly force others off the track by sticking to my racing line exit without any regard for potentially playing bumper cars.

Good luck to all still racing and see you all next series.
