Grand-Am Multi Class Racing | Postponed

I'm thinking of starting a Grand Am Series with two classes, Daytona Prototype (DP) and Grand Touring (GT). There will be an 'open car choice' whereby you can choose your own car as long as it meets the given specifications and gets final approval after I've tested it. The parameters will most likely be:

DP
-500bhp
-1,010kg
-Closed cockpit
-Group C OR LMP

E.G: Toyota GT One Race Car, Peugeot 908 HDi, Nissan R92CP etc.

GT
-390-450bhp
-1000-1270kg
-Race Car

E.G: Ford GT LM Race Car, Pagani Zonda LM Race Car etc.

Obviously part of the skill involved here would be finding the perfect car, detuning and ballast will be necessary to pull many cars into spec, especially with the Prototypes. Some of the races will mirror the real life events such as the Daytona, Laguna and Indy races, but there will be other tracks added to the calendar that Grand-Am doesn't normally race on. We would begin in February.

The races will vary in length, but will always be around or over 100km. Also the racing will obviously be multi class and include a pace lap, whether the start is rolling or standing is yet to be decided. Try a test room and see if it glitches out, if not, then just go on.

Actually, I'll run the Corvette C5-R in the GT class. More realistic.

Why not use say the Mustang, M3, RX8, and RUF, etc. for GT? They're all RWDs.

I probably will when I do it, I know these are the main cars involved in Grand Am GT. By the way this isn't the series I'm talking about in the Indy thread, this will probably be run after S1 is finished or maybe even later than that.

The Mustang premium is like 1320kg at lightest.

M3 is also like 1330 dunno bout others.
RX8 LM, M3 GTR Race Car, dunno about Mustang.

Id most likely go DP in the Pug 908 .

I'd definitely be interested if it was an hour later. I'd go for DP and limit it to like Group C cars only because they reflect the real DP cars the most

As I said this won't be happening for quite a while. Late Q2/early Q3 probably.

I'm curious as to why you say that though, I would say that things like the GT-ONE and 908 are closer to the Daytona Prototypes.

The GT-One and the 908 are a bit to "curvy" to look like DP cars if you know what I mean. They may look a little more like the new generation DP cars but not that much.

I think the fact they are newer makes them look closer to the DP's, for me there is little resemblance between a Mazda 787B and a Riley Prototype. And anyway the LMP's represent a similar amount of mechanical grip to the DP's unlike the Group C cars which are far less advanced when it comes to handling.

I'm just basically judging them by their looks but I see your point but if you used closed cockpit LMP's you basically only have those 2 cars that i can think of off the top of my head and the Bently. Group C you have a wider variety.

There's only a few but with 2 classes that shouldn't really be an issue. Bentley, 908 Oreca, 908 Total and GT-ONE.

Yeah. If you used Group C, you would just get IMSA GTP!
