So I've been recently taken by reading as much as I can get my hands on about the 'golden' era of what is now F1 - the post war period up until the early 1960's.

For those of you who may have read or heard a bit about this period, it was certainly what one might call 'a romantic' era of racing; amateur teams fighting it out with manufacturers, Fangio, Hawthorn, Ascari, Moss, Gonzalez and Phil Hill, road circuits such as the Mille Miglia, Targa Florio and Spa covering epic distances with next to no safety for drivers or crowds and of course Le Mans.

Anyway, whilst digging around, I found an old BBC series covering the cars from this period and thought it was worth sharing. There is some very good archive footage to accompany the 'brief history' of car's from that era and there are some excellent sound bites of the magnificent engines too.

Each episode is 25mins.
