I want to try something different for 2008. I've somehow been fond of motorcycles more than ever this year. So in an effort to put together a motorcycle racing audience, I'll launch this thread. This thread is a general discussion thread in regards to motorcycle racing grands prix. This includes:

* any level of AMA road racing (Superbike, Formula Xtreme, etc.)
* World Superbike
* MotoGP World Championship
* road racing series (as in long-distance races mostly on country roads like this: http://www.realroadracing.com/)
* other domestic or international region road racing

I can't promise I'll update this thread every so often. In fact, I don't make promises or guarantees on anything. This is for you motorcycle racing fans to talk about grand prix motorcycle racing of various degrees. So nothing in the sense of motocross, supermoto, drag racing bikes, ATVs, or anything of that nature. I'll cover the 2008 Isle of Man TT in a seperate thread. So let's kick off grand prix motorcycle road racing!
 
I watch for the most part every single MotoGP and World Superbike and World SuperSport race during the season, so I'll be posting in this thread.

The 1st WSBK race is being show on SpeedTV on February 24th (Tuesday) during the day, so set your PVR's (I know I will).

First race is in Qatar just like last year. I'm hoping for a Biaggi win.
 
Personally, I usually watch AMA Superbike and especially MotoGP. I don't watch World Superbike all that much. On the MotoGP side, here are my storylines:

* Can Nicky Hayden return to his 2006 form?
* Can Casey Stoner have a great season like he did last season?
* How will MotoGP's first night race go?

I'm proud as an AMA Superbike guy in seeing Texas' own Ben Spies (Longview, TX, USA) rule the roads AMA Superbike races around. Suzuki seems to be an absolutely irresistable force. Daytona Bike Week should be awesome. You all are free to offer up Grand Prix motorcycle racing to this thread. So continue on. Even make your own previews or maybe ask me some questions.
 
Im a big follower of MotoGP.

I want to see how Rossi will go on the different tyres!. Amazing that he managed to pull that off.

It will be a great fight and i can say that Moto GP races are probably amogst the most exciting races in any top form racing. So many battles.
 
Here's the first of the G.P. Motorbike Racing reports.



World Superbike: Losail; Doha, Qatar
Troy Bayliss won race one on his Ducati 1098S F08. Max Biaggi and Troy Corser rounded out the podium for Race 1. But, man! I am a Ducati fan, and that 1098S F08 is absolutely beautiful!

As a side note about the race, did you see the Yamaha battle between Troy Corser and Noroyuki Haga all race long? That was some crazy stuff! Fonsi Nieto won the second race, not to mention Nieto's first-ever world superbike win. Ruben Xaus and Max Biaggi rounded out the podium for Race 2.

The next round of World Superbike takes place at the defending MotoGP World Champion's home country- Australia. Phillip Island is next on the calender starting on March 2nd. Daytona Bike Week is also coming up as well as the start of the AMA Superbike season. Keep this deal going, people!
 
AMA Road Racing as well as MotoGP kicks off this weekend. All the action from Daytona as well as action from Qatar coming up this weekend. Troy Bayliss swept the weekend in Australia at Phillip Island for World Superbike. I have to imagine that there may have to be a lot more restricting for those Ducatis. I love Ducatis, but I'm a bit unsure that they'll probably run away with the WSBK title. Any of you thinking the same thing?

New bikes, new teams, new stars... not to mention the stars in the sky gazing upon the MotoGP stars on this 5.380 meter-long race course. This is my general thread on GP motorcycle racing, so let's talk about the first Qatar event. This will be followed up with Daytona action.

Mattia Pasini won the 250cc race in his Aprilia. If I'm not mistaken, this is his first tour of duty in 250cc and comes on strong to win. In fact, it was an Aprilia 1-2 as the Italian make saw Pasini win and Hector Barbera's Aprilia. The Aprilia love fest was broken up by Mika Kallio's KTM.



John's Debate! - Night Riding
I'm not sure if World Superbike is thinking the same thing or not, but do you think AMA Road Racing should attempt to have night races? Where would be great venues in America for the three classes of AMA Road Racing to compete? Would you be interested in seeing the Daytona races on Saturday night?





Here are your winners of all the Daytona road racing action:

* Formula Xtreme - Josh Hayes won the race. However, he failed post-race inspections, giving the win to Chaz Davies.

* AMA Superbike - People probably fear this season will be the Yoshimura Rockstar Makita Suzukis battling each other for the crown. Well if you believe that, get ready for a long season because Mat Mladin won the first event on his Suzuki GSX-R1000.

* Superstock - The AMA Superstock class saw Aaron Yates get her done at Daytona. The Jordan (as in Michael Jordan) Racing riders did quite well here.

* Supersport - Finally, give the winning honors to Mr. Ben Bostrom for a job well done.



My congratulations to all four riders in winning the first races of AMA Road Racing. The next round will be next month at BEAUTIFUL Barber Motorsports Park.

The MotoGP race began arouond 10:30 PM local time in Qatar. It was 64 degrees (Farenheit) with a ground temperature of 66 degrees (Farenheit). Humidity was at 58%. And from what I could tell, that silver moon was in the sky along with an ocean of stars looking down at a wonderfully-lit Losail track. I have to say, putting this deal all together is just amazing. Seen all the overhead shots of the track being lit up? A lot of the track seems so lit up that I almost thought it was a day race around the track. I always say that there is a magic to racing at night. Something about nighttime that fascinates me all the time. Racing is no different. I have to say this was a wholly unique experience. And I hear they're going to do night racing again at Mugello. So that should be fun.

Casey Stoner got her done as Andrea Dovioso upset Valentino Rossi with Dovioso's 4th Place classification. Jorge Lorenzo's Yamaha and Dani Petrosa's Honda rounded out the podium. So it's a 250 and MotoGP (I don't know the 125 results) sweep of Italian makes. Aprilia won the 250 race while Ducati won the MotoGP event. It was really fun to get to witness this experience on TV. Truly unreal. I found it a bit smart that it was done later at night to avoid having to worry about seeing the blinding sun go down. I knew a lot of lighting would be needed for racing machines that don't have lights of any kind like most racing motorcycles. The lighting was supremely sufficient for this track. It is my greatest honor to congrautlate MUSCO on a job well done lighting up this track. It was absolutely beautiful the way this track was lit up. It was absolutely beautiful.

What do you all think about the Qatar race and all the stuff leading up to it?
