Well, this is my review of:
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
The Story
Now, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (GTA: VC) is set in the mid/late 1980s, and the place is Miami. The game starts off rather confusing, as you are watching a Mafia Boss talk to his comrades...
They decide to send your character into VC, which is based on Miami, to do all the hard work for them and then they will reap the rewards.
It then cuts to the airport where your character is arriving, with two of his friends, and then you are whisked away to the docks for a deal. You are ambushed by mysterious people, and then you luckily escape, and so the story begins...
Angry at the set-up, you strive to take over the town and you eventually are the king of the town, but watch out...because there will be a price put on your head, and you will meet some old friends along the way...
Audio
The audio of this game has never been matched, and Rockstar have put out another great set of radio stations to cater to everyones needs, as they are cruising around in Vice City...from Rock to Love, they've got it covered.
I can't really say much on the sound quality, but it does have a very clear feel to it.
Gameplay
The gameplay is very long, although there are only 20 "main" missions, there are over 30 more side missions that you can complete, some required, to progress to the next stage. One of the main factors is purchasing property, where the majority of the side missions occur.
Replay Value
I am still on my first save, but I am very eager to start a new game. Once you have done the missions twice, it still doesn't really get boring, and it's great to refresh your memory of what happens earlier on in the game, and sometimes it is a good feeling just to cruise around the town, explore the beach, or just relax in your house of choice.
Graphics
The Vice City graphics are nothing spectacular, but are an improvement over the previous game in the series. Occasionally there will be some parts where it will freeze for about half a second.
Load times and improvements over GTA III
The load times are not long, but they aren't short either.
Some of the improvements made over GTA III are:
GTA VC
-More weapons
There are over triple the amount of weapons in Vice City than what there were in GTA: III, and now you can damage cars with "melee" weapons, like meat cleavers and chainsaws. The weapons are now split into different categories, and you can only carry one of each category.
-More vehicles
These are all cars from the 80s, including Camaro convertibles, Ferrari Coupes, and NASCAR racers. They aren't licensed, but they are all very similar to the real life thing.
-Motorbikes
You can now drive motorbikes! This is great, and the physics match...when on a Harley the leg of your character will stick out, and when on a sports bike your charactar will bend with the bike. Wheelies and Stoppies are now also possible
-Better Police
Now the police AI are way better, at one star you will only have one police car chasing you, but once you have two it is very hard to outrun the cops, as they will have cars at every corner. Three stars and SWAT trucks will start making roadblocks. Four, and SWAT troops will deploy from helicopters. Five, unmarked FBI and marked FBI will start chasing and laying spikes on the roads, and at six the army will give chase, with more tanks being used...at one stage i had three chasing head on towards me.
-Helicopters
Another delight is flyable helicopters. From the simple Sparrow to the Apache, they are very nice to fly, and i'm sure everyone enjoys taking the Apache for a spin
-Suits
Now you can change suits without cheats. The different ones are available after you complete a certain mission, and some of them are very funny.
-Property
Yes, now you can buy property. Some have a garage whilst others do not, and all come at a hefty price.
You can also buy business', where once you have done the required missions, it will start making money for you every day.
-Size of town
The town is three times bigger than in GTA: III, and makes for hours of cruising fun, and it takes a while to know where everything is.
Summary
These have made it almost substantial enough to be a good sequel to GTA: III, and I love the big size of the town, among others, helicopters and motorbikes were a great feature put in by Rockstar.
If you liked GTA: III, you will love GTA: VC. If you haven't played any of the series, rent first, then make your decision...if you like shooting/driving games then this is for you.
Pros
-Big city
-80s Style
-Lots of vehicles
Cons
-First load times
-Slowdown when pressing R3 for special missions
-Not too many main missions
-Could've been more improvements done
