Hi

I apologise if this question has been covered elsewhere (although I did look first).

Has anyone every had a race that they would put in the category of "Great Drive"...?

I don't just mean "fast"... but with some emotion / passion etc in there too...?

Last night I was running the Formula Gran Turismo championship... had come first at Fuji... first at Indy... then came Monaco. What a disaster. I had a nightmare... and was miles off the pace... and crashing everywhere in my attempt to try and catch up.

In the end... I finished last. By a country mile.

I got things back on track at Nurburgring... and managed to win. This put me on 300 points... and in the lead of the champtionship.

Then disaster struck. At Monza it was wet. So I went for Rain tyres... and although poor under acceleration... I seemed to have the edge under braking and the corners. The AI drivers all pitted at the end of Lap 1... and I thought that I had it in the bag. But... bit by bit... they started to catch me... and then the pressure got to me... and I started making mistakes.

They finally caught me... after I spun exiting the last chicane... and it all just went wrong from there (since I only had 3 laps to go). I wasn't able to catch back up... and finished last.

I went to Suzuka trailing in the championship... by 30 points from the leader... and 20 points from the guy in second place. So, a win (100pts) would only be enough, if the guy leading the championship didn't finish second (75pts).

Again... it was raining... so, I stuck the Wet Weather tyres on again.

The race started... and, right away, I was off the pace. Maybe what looks like rain in GT5 is only drizzle... but, by the end of the first lap, I'd managed to slip to the back of the grid.

I was about the exit the race... and start the championship again... when I thought, "No... try different tyres out... as it'll be handy when it rains again."

So, from the back of the grid... I pitted... and stuck "Intermediate" tyres on.

I left the pits... expecting the worst... but, oddly, the Intermediates were good. I had speed... and grip.

Suddenly, I was catching the pack (with the leaders over 30 seconds ahead of me)...!!

The thought entered my head that, if I could lap 2 seconds a lap faster than the leaders... then the race was still on... and the championship was not lost...

I did this... lapping 4-6 seconds a lap faster. Although... once I caught the pack... I had the problem with "spray"... which caused a few errors to creep in.

I managed to get up to 3rd... before a bad "off" put me back down to 9th...

But... I continued... knowing that I was quicker than they were.

On lap 18... I caught and passed the leader at the final chicane. The guy leading the championship was in 3rd now... and his rival was in 2nd.

I managed to hold it together on the last two laps in the wet... although the pressure made for a couple of tatty laps...

I finished in first place (100pts), putting me on 400 pts for the championship. I nicked it by 5 pts from the next guy... who was only 10 pts behind him.

I was so close to throwing in the towel after the first lap at Suzuka... but stuck different tyres on and drove through from the back of the grid to take victory... and (by the smallest of margins) the championship.

I was made up.

I appreciate there will be people out there thinking that this is "lame" or whatever... and that they won the championship by the end of the 4th race etc etc. I don't doubt it... and were it not for my tyre mistakes at Monza and Suzuka, I'd have had a much easier ride.

But... for one of the first times whilst playing GT5... I was "emotionally" involved in the outcome of a race... "wanting" victory... and not wanting to mess it up.

It struck me that these moments are quite rare... but, when they come along, they make an impact.

That's my story (if you are even still reading)... and I'd love to hear about whether anyone else has had a similar experience... where "clinical winning" was replaced by some "desire" and "emotion"...?

:-)
