So do hydrogen bombs compress things rather than expanding things then? I'd love to see some footage of a hydrogen bomb being tested somewhere like in Navada.... Or even better, if I saw it first hand, imagine! Whoa, but then you realize "Hey, this might be used on a city, with millions of innocents" and then you think "Whoa, we gotta dismantle this thing and destroy it before it does more harm than good!"

Basically it's just two atoms fusing together to release tremendous amounts of energy.

Fusing atoms takes a great deal more energy to start than to fission atoms. Also, fission bombs result in a lot of radioactive fallout (alpha and beta particles) while a fusion bomb results in very little. So I guess you could say a fusion bomb is a lot safer in terms of radioactivity. So if a fusion bomb were to be dropped in Times Square it would be inhabitable much sooner than if a fission bomb were dropped.

I'm probably talking out my ass as usual.

You mean it would be inhabitable for a longer period of time compared to a fission bomb, right?

And yes, yes you are talking out of your ass....

I think we've only detinated ONE hydorgen bomb 'on record' (fusion),... and that was at Christmas Island. I'll look for the info on it,.. but I remember somthing about a 200 ft crater in the ocean and over a mile in diamerter,.... litteraly excavating that portion of the island right into the ocean. Un-friggin-believably-huge.

It's fission. And I wasn't aware the 18,000 lb bombs were ready to be used. I just heard something on the radio last week about a humongous conventional bomb being tested, but it may have been even bigger.

Yep, I've heard rumors of one that's 24k. The mother-in-law-of-MOAB's:lol:

Oh yeah,... MOAB = "Mother of all bombs" - 18,000 pounds. (compaired to the dinky 2000 lb 'bunker busters' we've been droppin)

'Massive Ordinance Air Burst.' ;)
