Wow this stuff really works. the GT3 drifting guide at the verry begining of this sub forum has some really good info for newby drifters like me. :dunce: Hah, I dont even qualify as a newby yet! I had heard about drifting before, and saw some stuff about it here. downloaded a few vids and got seriously hooked. I used just about every driving trick with a massively powered vehicle and hit mid-field for some hot laps. I took an FD rx-7 I already had with about 690 hp. slaped regular tiers on the rear and left the medium race tiers on front, and of course asm and tcs set to 0 and just started getting sideways. Yesterday was my first time ever drifting in GT3, well trying anyway. In fact my first time ever even thinking about drifting period! But today (thats right two days) I just drifted all the way through the big sweeper after the tunel. yeah a super-newby sliding sideways at 60 mph with the rear wheels turning 100 + for about 150 feet and catching it! the driving tips really give a head start toward figuring out some of the counter intuitive methods of controlling a sideways vehicle. great stuff.

I do have a few questions though. try not to laugh or yell too loud. remember i know nothing about drift or its culture.

1: what does "initial D" mean?

2: do you guys use controllers or wheels? I only have controllers and i was wondering which was eisier to drift with?

1. Initial D is a popular anime series released from Japan. It tells the story of a young drifter and his battles he has with other drifters.

2. I can't drift well, but I use the controller. Which one is easier to drift with? It depends on personal preference I guess. It's not really about what you use, as 'Sheron'-a fantastic drifter (:D) and a member here, uses the D-pad. (Believe it or not) It comes down to how you use it.

Enjoy your stay at GTPlanet.

hmm initial d what does it mean...go nightkids

anyways, i drift both muhahahahah

sounds like you've got the crave! hehe

1. you don't want to know what initial D means

2. i use the controller because i don't have the wheel. the steering wheel is way funner though, and it's not all that hard to slide with it...

first welcome to GTplanet. initial d is just the name of the anime. second, i use a controller,no money for the wheel. plus i'm waiting for gt4. so gotta save up.

The anime "Initial D" means initial drift

Yes, the D in "Initial D" stands for "Drift"... Now, don't go basing all (or any) of your drift knowledge and technique from Initial D... It is a hyper-realistic show and thus does not necessarily follow the laws of the real world...

Controller or Wheel...

It depends on what you are used to... If you have been playing driving games for years using a wheel (in the arcade and/or at home) you are probably going to be more comfortable with a wheel... If you are used to using a controller, using one in GT3 is going to be a lot more intuitive than using a wheel...

A wheel is the best way to have the most control, but it isn't the only way to have full control... The Dual Shock 2 controller is fully analog, meaning, all the buttons are pressure sensitive (including the start and select) so by applying varying amounts of pressure to the buttons, you can achieve smooth control... Personally I use the analog sticks on the Dual Shock 2 for steering and gas/brake... IMHO it is the easiest way to gain full fluid control without using a wheel...

Welcome to GTP... Enjoy your stay...
