Grid - poor framerate?

I've been enjoying Grid for the past few nights. Ok, so the twitchy controls and dodgy physics are negatives, but the game is solid entertainment. My PS3 is hooked up to an old Sony 27" Trinitron (yay!) and I've noticed that the framerate is quite atrocious at times. In particular I was racing the Milan street track and there was one section of the track that always reduced the framerate to near single digits, regardless of how many cars were (or weren't) on screen.

Has anyone else noticed really poor framerates in Grid? Or is it just a side effect of using an old TV hooked up through the VCR?

I have no idea why it's happening but when I play GRiD it's smooth throughout.
