Hello chaps

I'm absolutely hooked on GT5p. It was the only reason I bought a PS3. The G25 wheel followed and hopefully Santa is dropping a Playseat down the chimney tonight

Recently I've spent a few hours browsing this forum and only wish I'd found it sooner as the tuning set ups tried last night has knocked at least 3 seconds off all my lap times.

A big thank you to all those that put in the effort to get the tuning right and then have the decency to post them up for all to enjoy. And to return the compliment I promise to be a more considerate driver when online:sly:

The one problem I keep getting is I always seem to start at or very near the back of the grid. According to the instructions it's random but in over 100 races I've never got better than 3rd from the back. A lot of the time on running starts not only am I at the back but miles behind the rest of the pack. I can usually get up to a good finish position but it would be nice to actually have the advantage occasionally to win a few races

If you are referring to Online play, your grid position is based on Performance Points. The higher your points, i.e. the closer to the race spec max, the further back. Offline play you are either in the back (usually 16th) or in the exact middle (8th).

As is stated in many other threads, the OFFLINE system isn't exactly what you'd call fair, and surely isn't very close to how most races at most levels are conducted. Hopefully the full game will have Qualifying. In the mean time, practice hot laps and welcome to GTPlanet.

its perfectly fair!

run a car with low pp the advantage is you start from the front but disadvantage is your car wont be as fast

start with a higher pp and the advantage is your car will be faster... disadvantage is you have to get round everyone else.

How is that not fair?

Because people abuse it by having 1pp less than the maxium so they start at the front and they are at no disadvantage.

with starting at the back of the grid is especially a problem at the daytona races. i always start as 12th or last depending on the number of players and at daytona its very hard to catch up, even if you are really fast because the gap between you (12th) and the 1st and just too far with the rolling start.

Haha I always do that. Take every advantage you can get. That 1pp is worth about 8 seconds less sometimes

I used to do that at HSR take 1PP and, made my average wins higher lol
then I took it off as it was fun to catch up and win at the same time.

I dont favour to those who take like 4-10PP off just to be at the start, thats just being greedy... now that RBE is off people might slip off PP... if its arolling start :o

Took your advice and last night in the 750pp intermediate Susuka race set my GT40LM to 749 whilst everyone else on the grid was 750pp. Not only was I still last on the grid but also seemed to start 30 secs behind the pack. Everyone was clearing the first corner as I crossed the line

That cant have been online then, if you were 749 and the others were 750 you would have defiantly started in first.

Rubbish, both Daytona Oval and Daytona Road I have no problems getting from last to 1st online, though it is more down to the fact than most people online can't drive fast if their life depended on it. I even used to beat Lotus Elise's back in the day on 650PP Daytona Oval with a Jaguar XK tuned to 606PP when the Elise was considered imbalanced (because PD had forgot to factor in extreme light weight into their PP calculations for some reason).

If it was a grid full of GTP drivers, yeah, it would probably be difficult, but then the same could be said for any of the tracks, the key point here is that we hardly get any 12 player GTP-only races anymore. Once private rooms come around, hopefully PD realise this little issue and introduce some kind of qualifying, be it using fastest laps set or whatever.

Hmm the only time it doesn't work online is if you join a race as its starting, this sometimes seems to cause the system to miss out your PP value and place you at the back. But otherwise it does work.
