I'm having problems with audio interference on my laptop. I'm running a cable from my audio mixer to my line in input on my laptop (phono to 3.5mm).

Recording my mix just running on the laptop battery is fine, no sound problems at all. The battery only lasts about 45 minutes, which is no good so I have to plug the mains in and then the interference begins (from the ground loop I think)

The only solution I can think of is to remove the earth from my plug, which isn't the safest thing to do.

Does anyone have any suggestions so I don't end up burning my house down, and more importantly so that I can record a good mix with no interference.

EDIT: I have just seen a ground loop isolator, just wondering if anyone has experienced how effective they are.

Regarding the ground loop isolator, the description and reviews on both Radio Shack and Amazon are both very good.

Edit: amazon.co.uk - £5.87 and I have no idea what store you could go to, especially at 9:30* on a Saturday.

*Hope I did my math right.

I think it's going to be the best option. Will pick one up Monday if my local electronics store has them in stock.

they should, mark, and that is exactly what you need.

i'm an audio engineer and producer, hit me up sometime, let's collaborate ;)

Sounds like a good idea to me. I'm always on the lookout for new instrumentals to incorporate into my sets and remixes. I'll PM you some details.
