My mind exploded when I saw this repair story.

$54,000!! :scared:

GTP members have said that repair costs scare them about German cars. Now I understand why. :nervous:

Has anyone else heard of anything that steep?

Although, the event that led to that does seem like a case of failure.

Bah, insurance payed it. He was probably the insurance agent!

Isn't that the truth.

100 hours of labor!! I can't believe M-B doesn't offer a complete engine as a replacement part. Buy all of the parts individually and THEN assemble it. That's one way to do it.

$54K for an engine in a $150,000 car? Sounds about right considering that engine makes up about 1/3rd of the car's price.

I've heard of this happening with MB before, as long as insurance covers it it's good because you know they didn't take any chances on the repairs... Average on labor at Euromotorcars is $100 an hour, god forbid you have to bring your SLR in for repairs because only one person at the garage is qualified to work on them and there is a much higher hourly labor charge.

OT. I see my friend johnhef has posted in there, have you joined the site yet High Test?

I joined the second you recommended it. Same username, too. :)

I don't post much, though. I browse a lot. I like how all of the people post the guillotine smiley when the phrase "V12" comes up. :dopey:

I rarely post as well but do so under the name john skimo...

this is why I will probably never own a new car

I'm a realist. When I have my own family, do you think I'm going to buy a new SUV? NO! I already seat seven. :sly: Wiring harness be damned! Full speed ahead!

We're going waay OT here. Points for still conversing on the same brand?

Sounds about right. The AMG V8s cost about the same as well.

Funny thing?

You can buy a brand-new LS7 for $13K plus shipping...

Jesus, and I thought us RX-7 owners get owned with repair costs.

I'd have gotten an LS7 with twin turbos hanging off it, backed by a 4L80E, installed with all the fab work necessary done, for less than that.

pretty sure insurance wouldn't have covered that, though if for whatever reason (I honestly can't think of any) it was going to have come out of pocket, I definitely would have put something like that in there.

$54k didnt really surprise me once i saw V12 in the mix. But still youd think he would get a break on labor at least 5-10%. Considering that it was water damage it will be covered by insurance no problem. That service writer got a fat check that month though. 100+ hours to that service writer is gold, if they fill out the survey 100% excellent anyway. Yeah its a big repair bill but you have to realize the company.

Got to love hydrolock. $54000? I would of just sold the car as-is and bought something else if the insurance didn't cover it. Its clear he has money.

What bothers me is how much water he had to of driven in to hydrlock his engine...several FEET? Jesus what an idiot.

Insurance did cover it. He probably paid $500 or $1000 and that was that.
