I had been watching Super GT race on Gran Turismo TV and during qualification on Suzuka Circuit best times were around 1.51 - 1.52
I took my YellowHat GTR without tuning and racing hard tires on track.
I used my DFGT wheel
The best I could do was 1.59
I might be a bad driver, or not enough practice I've done on track. But considering that I have no risk been crashed and they don't I expected my times closer to reality. I didn't change tires for further tests because I thought that cars from dealership come with tires used in real life thats why I stuck on Racing hards. If someone can tell me which tires are closer to reality in GT500 class?

Dont forget they were probably on very low fuel.

I've just checked the 2008 series archive on this site.

http://supergt.net/en/

Round 1 Suzuka 300KM it lists the YellowHat qualifying time as 1:53.747 and its best race lap as 1:57.221

Soft tires, less fuel. That's what you need during qualify.

Do they have softer compound tires like Champ Car/ Indy Car used to have? Those with red stripe, they can use in qualif? They had like one or two sets for a race week-end. And pilots really push their cars in qualif. You don't want to be in the middle of the pack at the first turn!

No qualifying tires if that's what you mean. Yes they qualify on low fuel, but that's a time you most likely are not going to touch in GT5 with softs and low fuel. I'm not 100% sure but not even the Div1 WSGT guys are runing those times on Soft tires.

1'53 is a bloody fast time for a GT500 even on racing softs!

I was quite surprised when I saw the lap times. I thought on GT5 with Softs the cars were too quick and arcadish, but apparently that wasn't the case.

Thanks for the info. Running with fuel/tire wear would be useful in achieving best times but would take a while for few fast laps. Obviously it's near impossible to beat a record lap against a pro pilot who ran this track, or any other for thousands laps in many years. Their knowledge and memory of a track is just beyond.

I think Racing hard would be the real life equivalent.

1:59 does not mean your a bad driver.
Just not a pro-driver.
