GT Academy: Dubai 24h race

The race is underway, and as of this writing is nearing the 12h mark.

The GT Academy team (RJN Motorsport 1), car #23, is currently running in 53rd place (out of 75). They qualified 30th, but encountered two problems that resulted in lengthy pit stops. They had an oil leak early, and encountered an electrical problem a couple hours ago.

More updates as they develop.
 
is there anywhere to watch it live?
 
hey guys,

been to the track today and talked to the guys too. I was there when the 350z came in for a pit stop.
Looked everything good when i was there, but left the track around 6pm local time.
Will check tomorrow again and will post here too.

thats a shame they had technical problems!!!

they have a competitive fastest lap in relation to some of the front runners so they are quick.

bet they are having the time of their lives !!
 
I just made some quick math in my head... they have been in pit something like 2 and half hour more than cars in top ten... so basically without problems they might have done 70 laps more than now. :ouch: That would be near top ten if I understand that resultpage right. I'm very tired so I might have major lack in my math also... :lol:
 
The race has come to an end. The RJN Motorsport 1 Team has finished in 9th position in their category and 45º position overall. Great driving of Lucas as I read in the web of GT :)

They've had lots of bad luck with the mechanic problems. In the results web you can see thay have spent 5 hours and a half in the pit-lane...

It's funny how GT players manage to even get into 24 hour race like this and finish in top 10 in their class!

By the way, in their class, how many cars were there?
 
About 20 cars. Their best lap time was the third in their class, but as I said, they were unlucky with the race incidents and the technical problems of their car.
 
Congrats to Lucas :) .

Whilst it does show that Gran Turismo can improve driving (or more acurately 'racing') skill, I'm sure Lucas would agree they are still a long way off the excitement of taking part in such a prestigious race.

I'm not so sure theres a lot of "prestige" in the Dubai 24 hours. :lol: No offense to Lucas of course!

To be fair, and not to take anything away from the GT Academy drivers at all, but they did have two professional drivers in their team, including ex-F1 racer and Le Mans 24 Hour winner, Johnny Herbert. But still, I'm sure the guys drove very well, too bad they had those mechanical dramas.

Prestige generally refers to some kind of reputation in this context, seeing as this is the first ever Dubai 24 hours race (might be wrong there, but I don't think its been going very long), it doesn't really have any reputation yet.

I would say at the very least GT5:P online does have a reputation, lol, but yeah, point taken :p
 
It isn't the first, it's the 4th. The event is still growing though.

edit: I wonder if there's a racing future for these guys after this race?

Ah, ok, I had checked a couple of days ago to find some kind of history on the race, but found nothing.
Still, not exactly "prestigous" just yet.
