So after a few hot laps on the first track, I put up a score around 500 running just around 1:10. After driving the car, what a joke! Don't see this being fun:indiff: I mean the car's on ice, slow as can be. What a drag!:grumpy:

Yeah it does'nt make hot lapping any fun with those tires. Its their way of weeding out the lesser drivers, but still how many races actually use "comfort" grade tires.

I thought a better approach to this would be to only allow a certain number of attempts. which should work okay since there are three events.
As it is now the fastest people will be those with the most patience to do lap after lap.

The physics of the GT Academy is just like the original GT Time Trials. It has more realistic physics. They obviously toned it down in GT5 for the casual gamers to enjoy. Only the hardcore drivers that know how to handle a car at the limits is what this GT Academy was develope for and meant to find the best driver. Sorry if you are disappointed. Keep practicing and hopefully you will enjoy this level of realism.

Get off your high horse man, I performed quite well, but I dont enjoy this all that much, do you understand that? I hope you can see how condescending your comment is.

The physics feel exactly the same. Not many people use the comfort tires so maybe you didnt notice.

Yea I think it's the exact same physics imo. I don't think they would tweak that as soon as people adjust to the new GT5 physics.

Both valid points. It should be 3 stages of car level IMO :yuck: from street car to even the x. Driving a slow car slow proves who's got more time and patients, not who's truly the best race car driver. Lap limitations could easily solve the issue I'll give it a go later in the week, but not for long!

Question: Ive ran all 3, so my question is..Does anybody know when the free DLC that is supposed to be given will be given out?

And when I did cape ring a few hours ago, my rank was 89th

I just got out of work! East side! Lol. Wait to the Cali kids come home from school. Or is the leader board based on your region?

you can look at the leaderboard for both region and country

YESSSS!!! Thank you all for confirming that the physics of the GT Academy are more like the Time Trial Demo. I was hoping that GT5 would use those physics. I honestly find GT5's physics to be a little too forgivable. The only time I've had problems (aka fun) was in the high end spectrum of the race cars and the last AMG challenge, which the times they gave you to do it in was cake but the physics were super nice.

I was pretty dissappointed when I first purchased my Amuse GT1 in GT5. In prologue it was pretty difficult to control in it's stock form without adjusting the suspension. In GT5 it was like being on rails. I wish Polyphony would just go ahead and exclude all the arcade racing fans. My .02

Plenty of people use "comfort" tires - these are basically equivalent to your standard summer tire. The sport tires are closer to r-compound tires, even sport-hards.

IRL I PREFER to use my v710's, R6's, or even NT-01's, but being able to well on street tires is also important. Since I don't have a ton of cash, I will usually learn a new track or get warmed up on the street tires so I don't put unnecessary heat cycles into the r-compounds for the time trials.

True, the fastest people will be the ones with the most patience, who do hundreds if not thousands of laps to put down those perfect laps in each event. My way of interpreting that is, the fastest people will be the ones who want the grand prize the most, and therefore put in the time and effort to become fast enough to make winning it a reality. I see no problem with this.

I don't get the thread...

You don't think it's fun, simply because of the tire being used?

It doesn't matter what setup is used, everyone is using the exact same setup. The fun should be in putting up a good lap time with that car and that setup... I'm failing to understand why anyone could say it's not fun or "it's for the birds" just because the car isn't comfortable - it shouldn't be, that's why it's a challenge.

PD could have easily made it a race with an X1 (sorry X2010) in a straight line for 5 miles, or F2010 at Daytona/Indy Oval...It probably would have been very easy for a lot of people, but it wouldn't have been a great way to find out who the best of the best are.

Good lap times in a "fixed setup" environment really show car and throttle control... Putting full race rubbers on a car that allows everyone to stay on the gas for a larger percent of the lap, drops the difference in lap times and doesn't clearly find out who the best was... Anyone could drive a car if it felt like it was on rails around any track... it's when it doesn't feel on rails that seperates the men from the boys...

I think all three TTs are very fun. Tsukuba is a little weird because you have to drive like an idiot to get a good time, Rome reverse is super challenging, and Cape Ring in the Tuned 370Z is fast enough and has enough grip to make any arcade racer happy.

A perfect blend of precision and intesity. 👍

Oh, the North East is freakin stacked!

I tried driving the Indy road course with the Z and it felt very different and forgiving in GT5 compared to the TT demo. Maybe its hardly noticable but I can feel the difference IMO. And trying not to sound like I'm still on my high horse sorry. :scared:

Lol I think Rome is the easiest out of the 3. I mean I am not at the top but actually until the end of the back straight I am still faster than the top time. You just have to be aware the cobble stones are not friendly.

Even if the challange was with full on soft race tires and maxed cars the cream will always rise to the top. It would be the same many laps needed to post a good time. just the times would be much closer faster. look at any kind of racing Q times the fast guys are real close in times. This challange is a test of who wants it. Not about how easy it is:)

Well... If anyone gives a fwap...

I agree with ShaneMan. The Zs suck ass anyway... Very powerful, RWD, look like a dog squatting to take a dump, and is completely incontinent (loose stool... As in the ass-end keeps spinning round!).

I understand what you other guys are saying... Race what you brung... But damn... It really isn't that fun to have the back end break free all the time. Skill over will... I get that, but I wouldn't drive that kind of car IRL, and I just don't find it very fun either.

Now... Give me a GT-R, and I'll be happy on any track, with any tire.

Just sayin... I'm with you ShaneMan.

370z are monsters are the track IRL. For the money they are one of the fastest machines out of the box.

Honestly, the back end isn't that hard to control compared to other sports cars like the 911, or even an M Roadster or s2k.

Driving a GT-R is a great car that is very fast, but it isn't really true driving, and the electronic assists will impede your ability to learn core car control techniques.

+1 :)

Tsukuba is the only one I'm really disappointed with.

My F-150 pickup with wrangler radials, drives and corners better than that Z.

I'm surprised Nissan would let them use their car to display such a disastrous handling model.

I did the other seasonal time trial event, the one with the Fiat 500 around Tsukuba. Same tires and 65hp. I go around the last turn in the 500 at the same speed as the Z in the Academy competition. hmmmm

Yeah they are different cars, the 500 is way lighter. But the Z is a sports car, you'd think it could go through a turn faster than a golf cart.

the fiat 500 has a smaller width i believe and probably a higher COG that causes a more force to come down on top of the tire, thus forcing the tire into the ground. Unlike the z it is a bit wider but lower COG and that works against itself on slippery corners like the last corner Tsukuba.

That's why in formula cars and in karting when the rain comes the ride height comes up and the ballast is moved up to allow a higher pivot point. When I karted I had a piece of large foam handy so I could place it in the seat and raise me up in the seat in case of a quick shower.

Or maybe i don't know what I'm talking about.

yeah I mean sounds good to me, I just think it'd be funny to see a Z get passed by a 65hp Fiat in a 75mph corner

I think the problem may lie in perception of speed. Without the g-forces involved the speed seems unnaturally slow. I think if I were in the 370Z on Tsukuba doing 60mph around a corner in 2nd gear and I pegged or even applied a little too much throttle, while still having the wheel turned, the backend would definitely want to come around on me. Am I wrong?

Can you find this somewhere? I find it hard to believe they created a special event with custom physics.... The physics of the driving is the same for the game, you can tweak the "driving options" to make it "easier" or "harder" but I would find it hard to believe they adjusted the physics...makes zero sense.
