I just wanted to ask if anyone knows how true to life the specs in GT, particularly GT3, are. My big question is, "Can the Escudo really been pushed into the upper 1800's, HP-wise, and if so, has anybody done it, and who?"

I do know that most of the numbers regarding stock HP are right on the money, but there has been alot of debate among some of my friends as to just how accurate this game really is once HP upgrades enter the picture.

Well, let's just say that quality motor oil and good break-in help the performance of the engine, just like RL. And yes, the 'scud gets well into the 1800+ range, though I forget the exact number off the top of my head.

While proper break-in and regular oil changes do help, you cannot expect 18+ Hp from an oil change. A more realistic figure would be 1-2 Hp. If you change or clean the air filter at the same time, You might push the number up to 5.
The 'scud accomplished it's feat by turning it's engine into an all-out buzz saw, sacraficing all of it's longevity and utility for a few minutes of raw power. Sorta like a top fuel dragster. After that, they installed another engine and drivetrain behind it.
I can't comment on the effectiveness of the mods in gt3, but I can say that the one lap racing series will side step the issue by virtually modeling each engine in the game and determining the limit and price of power upgrades.
