GT Force Pro - is it really worth it??

First of all, hi everyone! :D A friend linked me here from my regular Forum when I asked for some GT4 info and I found the topics here very informative. :)

Anyhoo, onto my question. I am in Australia (if I hear even ONE "crikey!"...*shakes fist*) and have an Australian copy of GT4:Prologue (PAL, product code SCES 52438). I really want a Logitech GT Force Pro to play this and the final version with when it's released, but after reading quite a few threads here I'm not so sure it's a wise idea. All I'm seeing is bugs here, bugs there, "my pedals don't work", "my steering loses it's alignment", etc. etc.. Put simply, said steering wheel is AU$299.00 and although that's a lot of money (a whole month's rent for me o_O; ) I'm willing to pay it if the wheel does what it's supposed to and isn't a piece of crap. What I'm NOT prepared to do is waste so much money on a product that needs to be re-inserted into my PS2 every 5 minutes because something f$#@s up, or that I need to pull apart to re-insert loose cords (and lose my warranty at the same time).

Also, what sort of lifespan does it have? I have a Mad Catz steering wheel that I got when the original GT came out and I used it so much that the steering sensors are totally shot & inaccurate and the shifter only shifts down now. Of course it did last about 2 years before this happened, but I'd hope the GT Force Pro would last a little longer seeing as it costs twice as much.

Please don't reply with bugs in the actual game as I don't give a rats about those (they'll be fixed for GT4, I'm sure), I just want to know if the wheel is worth my $299.00. Thanks in advance! :)
 
I've hammered it since December now and it still goes strong. However, as you can read in the other thread, I did have a problem with the pedals at one point. But it can be easily fixed and no you I don't think you lose your warranty because there's no seal ... :D

You hear a lot about this wheel but you also have to keep in mind that it's both new and very popular, so if there are any problems you'll hear about them immediately :D.

Just read my bit about the pedal, and if you can live with the possibility of that situation happening, and keep in mind Logitech's generous warranty scheme which means shops should be able to give you another one immediately, should help you to decide to get this wheel. I have two Mad Catzes lying around btw, both still work too :D, and also two Wingman FF wheels.
 
It seems to me that my wheel is going to last longer than the TV tray it's mounted on. That should give you a good idea of things.
 
This wheel specs wise should last longer. I believe the wheel hub is ball bearing. For more durability. We'll see. Oh is Australian dollars lower than USD? cause ti onyl cost me 110 shipped online. US dollars. (yeah it was on sale, my gf bought it for me. jsut came yesterday)

also if soemthing breaks like mine came with a non working start button t hen jsut buy another one and replace it and return the broken one haha. thats what Im doing now.

This forum uses software totally different to what I'm used to, so I wasn't sure how. Plus it was late and I may or may not have been drinking... >_>;

According to GCITradng.com, AU$299.00 is currently equal to US$212.18. That sounds a little off to me though. Anyone know if there's a difference between the GT Force Pro wheels sold in different countries? If you guys are picking them up for much less than US$200.00 it might be worth checking overseas prices, provided an American wheel will work on my PAL PS2. :D
 
$1 American is $1.40 Australian at the moment.
 
The wheel will open up a whole new meaning to the game bro. once you get the hang of it you don't wanna go back to the controller. I can't stand playing GT without my logicool.
 
I have tested all the Euro(all wheels I could find in EU) wheels for PS2/xbox and none were to my liking. I couldnt stand them.
But now when I bought the wheel, I was suprised. The step wasnt a small step but a leap forward. Its the best when played with games that uses its better sides. GT4Prologue does it. I cant go back to a wheel or a DS2 controller anymore. Its not the same thing.
 
Crap! I never considered that the wheel would need it's own powersupply! Looks like importing is out of the question, no way I'm buying a transformer and converter just to use a steering wheel. -_-;

I think the wheel will hold up. I'll have to play-test it at a Best Buy or something to fully appreciate its capabilities. I know one thing. When I am at the arcades I sit down, put in my money, maybe pick Manual/Standard, and race on. But if GT4 comes out, most likely, I'll have to stand up. I played an arcade driving/racing game before standing up (a "Cruisin' World" single-player unit), so I know what it would be like. For one thing, the steering wheel should be as responsive as my brother's truck when I had driving lessons. Full 900 degree motion plus that shifter. I don't know if that shifter is a special "H" shifter or a paddle one like in CART/Champ Car, but the shifting should be fun. If you ask me, I think GT fans will love this wheel. And if not, there is always the Dualshock 2 controller.

As an off-topic, don't try to race a PS2 game with a PS1 steering wheel. How do I know? I've tried it. I'll have to sell my old glory and get something else. Now, will the GT Force for GT3 still be compatible? Anyone know?
 
I found out about my Mad Catz not working on the PS2 the hard way, wasn't very happy at all. :(

The GT Force will still work and have force feedback, but not the 900* turning feature. Only the Pro does that.

Soman, where do you live in the EU? The UK? Because i'm looking to buy one of these and I live in the UK, but none of the local gamestores are stocking them. Do you know where I could get one?

I don't really mind where it comes from but I would prefer not to have to use power supply adapters and etc.

My problem is just space... I have no space to mount it on :(

But still have a question... is it also possible to set this wheel to a regular 300 degrees turn?
I mean... sometimes it's way to much work to go from a full left to a full right with 900 degrees :D
 
I'm pretty sure you can. I read in a review somewhere that you hold two buttons at start up or something and it overrides the 900* feature.
 
Ok guys, JUST BOUGHT ME MY DRIVING FORCE PRO!!!!!!!:D :D :D :D Ha ha, cant wait for the shipment to come in, gonna be GREAT!! I'm gonna make me a setup w/ a car seat and some wood, for a true driving experience. should be coming in thursday or friday, but might be the week after because of a holiday:( o well got it cheap though, 78 with shipping! ebay's great isn't it? here it is i'm gona love it:D :D

Couldnt find any game shops stocking this item in the uk local to me at least.
Dont think theyll get in on the act until GT4 full release.

Someone here recomended Gameseek.co.uk.
Ordered it Monday arrived Tuesday, £89 plus shipping.
Built a Driving pod wedneday, Played Gt3 thursday, Played prologue friday and saturday and sunday.

Yeah I already had Gameseek bookmarked in my favourites. I'll probably order it from there if I can be brave enough to cough up the cash *ouch*.
