J24681357-
Since this bothered me as I have all of the cars, the following list are cars that can't be used as Sophy AI opponents in Custom Race. Let me know if you found any mistakes!

UPDATE 1.71: This update has made most of the post-update cars after the GT Sophy Quick Race compatible with each track; however, all tracks now have a completely different set of incompatible cars across the whole car list. This post has now been updated with the list of incompatible cars in the 1.71 update.

Red: Can't be used as your current car in Custom Race & Quick Race with GT Sophy.

All Tracks
Caterham Seven Superlight R500 '08
Dodge SRT Tomahawk GTS-R VGT

1. Purchase a free car in the Brand Central (Toyota Himedic or Afeela).
2. Set up a GT Sophy Custom Race.
- Note that if your current car is not allowed, this won't work.
3. In the Custom Grid, replace the opponents with the free car that you choose.
4. Save your settings, go back to your Garage, & discard that free car in your Garage.
5. Load your Custom Race settings in another track, where your current car is incompatible in.
6. The whole grid will be forcefully replaced with your current car.

If you are confused and/or a visual learner, here is a video about it:

I was doing a Sophy One-Make race with the stock Aston Martin Vantage '18 at Trial Mountain, and there is some odd behavior in the turn after the second straight. They tend to overshoot into the wall. Is it one of the broken cases? 😂

Here is Sophy normally using the previous generation Aston Martin Vantage in comparison.

In the 1.59 update, the following cars are incompatible cars to use for GT Sophy:

All Tracks
Chevrolet Corvette Z06 (C5) '01
Ferrari 812 Superfast '17
Honda CR-V e:HEV EX Black Edition '21
Suzuki Carry KC '12

Catalunya GP
Mazda Atenza Gr.3
Tesla Model S Signature Performance '12
Volkswagen Beetle 1200 '66

After some skimming, it seems that the rest of the incompatible cars for the rest of the tracks remains the same. Catalunya GP is the only track that is compatible with cars from previous updates (Aston Martin Vantage '18, Mercedes Benz Unimog, etc).

Also, the bypass method for using incompatible cars has been patched in this update.

There must be some really dirty coding behind for this feature to be car and track specific.

There must be some really dirty coding behind for this feature to be car and track specific.
It has to be trained individually for literally every single car and track combination - and as you can expect, this completely flies out the window once you add tuning to the equation. It's not a very efficient system at all.

I was wondering the other day of another possible method for bypassing: Using GT Sophy Custom Race while having only 1 car in your garage.

By default, when you load a grid that has an incompatible car, it gets replaced with a car in your garage that is closest to the PP of your current car. But, what would happen to the grid if you own only 1 car and it's incompatible with the track? I don't know.
I don't feel like bothering to make a new account for a fresh garage at the moment. So if any of you have the chance to test this theory, let me know!

Someone has pointed out in the Undocumented Change thread that more cars became incompatible to use for some Sophy tracks. Although the person used the Nissan GT-R Premium edition T-spec '24 & Dragon Trail as an example (which is not correct), a bunch of Nissan models did became incompatible in the 1.60 update.

Autodromo Lake Maggiore - Full Course
Nissan GT-R LM NISMO '15

Deep Forest Raceway
Nissan GT-R LM NISMO '15

Grand Valley Highway
Nissan GT-R '17

Nurburgring 24h

Red Bull Ring
Nissan GT-R LM NISMO '15

It's reasonable why the Nissan GT-R LM NISMO '15 became more incompatible (the physics was changed for that car), but not sure why for the rest of them though.

In the 1.61 update, the new cars are incompatible cars to use for GT Sophy, as expected.

All Tracks
Honda N-ONE RS '22
Nismo R34 GT-R Z-tune '05
Nissan Qashqai Tekna 190 2wd e-Power '22

The following cars are incompatible with High Speed Ring:

High Speed Ring
Audi R18 TDI '11
Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Racer Concept '59
Honda NSX Gr.B Rally Car
Hyundai IONIQ 5 N '24
Lamborghini Countach LP400 '74
Mazda LM55 VGT
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution Final Gr.B Rally Car
Nissan GT-R LM NISMO '15
Nissan GT-R Gr.B Rally Car
Peugeot RCZ Gr.B Rally Car
Subaru WRX Gr.B Rally Car
Tesla Model S Signature Performance '12
Volkswagen Beetle 1200 '66
Škoda VGT

Maybe it's just a coincidence, but quite a few of the incompatible cars are also problematic to tune. Like the 3.0 CSL and the 512BB and their incompatibility at Nurb. Both are challenge to get tuned correctly, and I'm sure that causes issue for Sophy. The 3.0 CSL is barely useable without proper tuning. There must be something in the way Sophy uses them that cause accidents or something.

I come back to this thread so often, surprised it's not a sticky yet.

I noticed that the Evos IV, V, VI, and VIII are incompatible at Mt. Panorama as well.

I found a new bypass method in the latest GT7 update. Surprised that it was not found sooner.

1. Purchase a free car in the Brand Central (Toyota Himedic or Afeela).
2. Set up a GT Sophy Custom Race.
- Note that if your current car is not allowed, this won't work.
3. In the Custom Grid, replace the opponents with the free car that you chose.
4. Save your settings, go back to your Garage, & discard that free car in your Garage.
5. Load your Custom Race settings in another track, where your current car is incompatible in.
6. The whole grid will be forcefully replaced with your current car.

Nice find. This is an absolute game changer.

An addendum to this: Any discardable car works here, it doesn't have to be the Afeela/Himedic.

Those are obviously the best, since you don't waste credits, but you can set up and discard a spare kart or something and it still works.

Update 1.62 does not add any GT Sophy tracks, the first instance since GT Sophy 2.1 was introduced. However, the bypass method remains unpatched.

As usual, the following cars are incompatible with GT Sophy:

All Tracks
AFEELA 1 '26
Chevrolet Corvette CX Concept '25
Chevrolet Corvette CX.R Vision Gran Turismo Concept

Renault Avantime 3.0 V6 24V '02

Unfortunately, the Renault Avantime is the only car in this update that you can use as your current car in GT Sophy Custom Race. The other cars would block you from doing so in all tracks, so the bypass glitch will not work for those cars.

Update 1.63 still does not have any new GT Sophy tracks, so I'm not really going to bother to see if the previous incompatibility list changed for now.

The following cars are incompatible with GT Sophy:

All Tracks
Hyundai ELANTRA N '23
Mazda Spirit Racing Roadster 12R '25
Opel Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo
Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40V '74
Toyota RAV4 Adventure '20

You are unable to use the bypass method for the Opel Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo.

Update 1.65 (Spec III) did not add any new GT Sophy tracks. This could be the last update where any additional cars/tracks will be compatible with GT Sophy Custom Race as it hasn't been updated for months and the introduction of Sophy 3.0. The bypass/workaround still works though!

The following cars are incompatible with GT Sophy:

All Tracks
Ferrari 296 GT3 '23
Ferrari 296 GTB '22
Fiat Panda 30 CL '85
Hyundai IONIQ 5 N '24
Gran Turismo F3500-B
Mine's BNR34 GT-R N1 base
Mitsubishi FTO GP Version R '97
Polestar 5 Performance '26
Renault Espace F1 '95

You are unable to use the bypass method for the Polestar 5 Performance '26 in this update.
In 1.65, the Hyundai IONIQ 5 is now incompatible with all of the GT Sophy tracks, meaning that you are unable to use the bypass method for this car.

Since I will not be getting the Power Pack, I need someone to confirm whether the bypass method can be used on those cars?
If a car says "The car you are currently driving is not compatible with GT Sophy.", then the bypass method does not work for it.

LoL, I just found this same exploit yesterday. Dammit, I thought I was first. I posted about it in the custom race thread.

FYI, I tried all the Power Pack cars and some of the 1.65 cars. Can confirm the Power Pack cars work. I also got the Suzuki Carry to work. Baja Beetle race is epic!!

Thanks for confirming!

Just tried the used car method also adding cars that are already compatible. So, doesn’t have to be a one make.

When did the Vantage ‘18 become compatible? Been a good while since I set up a GT4 race and can’t remember when I tried to use one in a SOPHY grid.
I was setting up some cars just then and figured I’d try them in a Reggie race at Catalunya. I selected GT SOPHY by accident and noticed the Vantages didn’t disappear. I seriously can’t remember. Probably didn’t bother to check out of being annoyed(I guess I stopped caring when I couldn’t assign the Suzuki Carry to SOPHY).

I stated it here that when Catalunya GP was added to GT Sophy, some of the cars that were in previous updates before 1.59 became compatible including the Aston Martin Vantage. The rest of the tracks are not compatible with those cars.
In the 1.59 update, the following cars are incompatible cars to use for GT Sophy:

All Tracks
Chevrolet Corvette Z06 (C5) '01
Ferrari 812 Superfast '17
Honda CR-V e:HEV EX Black Edition '21
Suzuki Carry KC '12

Catalunya GP
Mazda Atenza Gr.3
Tesla Model S Signature Performance '12
Volkswagen Beetle 1200 '66

Also, the bypass method for using incompatible cars has been patched in this update.
There are 2 more exceptions like Catalunya GP. Any GT Sophy tracks that were added after Catalunya GP had compatibility with cars before the 1.59 update like the Vantage:
  • Alsace - Village
  • High Speed Ring

So weird how they’ve been assigning cars and what agent is capable of. So random in the players eyes, but I guess SONY AI must have their reasons.

@J24681357 Time to update the list of Sophy compatible /incompatible cars. :D :D

As of this just-released 1.71 update, the LMh Hypercars are now Sophy compatible, along other models like the Twingo, the Mercedes CLK LM ...

Seems they've made just about everything up to the last update compatible with Sophy :D
Apparently, still some weird non-compatible car/track combos...
Quick update :

Somehow the 911 GT3 R is not compatible at Road Atlanta (feels bad man 😔) and the 296 GT3 is not compatible at Hokkaido GP a.k.a. High Speed Ring.
