I downloaded the demo today. It makes my go through a bunch of settings and it says my tv is a sd tv and wont let me choose hd. So, i went to the settings on the non.pro ps4 settings to check. it says 19xx x 1080 60 hz and RGB. The game will not let me set it up as HD. I dont really care for the demo, but i dont want to mess it up for everything else. It is a ps4 with the cable the ps4 came with to a hdmi port on a 1080p tv. everything other game works. I dont want to mess up other games going into settings the i am not sure about. the tv is a 1080p 42" lg.

any ideas?

thanks in advance

edit:how do tell is the hdmi input is set to hdr-compatible mode (such as enhancement mode)? .... <their words not mine

and what is a premium hdmi cable? ... i just used the one that came with the ps4. /edit

thanks for any help.

Thank you. I just know what it says, but I do not know much about this. So i thank you for clarifying that. What would qualify for a hdr tv then. mine is not a 4k. just a 1080p and its set on automatic. The tv is connected to cable tv, a ps3 and a ps4. And yes I have an hdmi splitter.

so sdr is fine then?

SD and HD and 4K = Standard Definition, High Definition and Ultra-high Definition (resolutions)
SDR and HDR = Standard Dynamic Range and High Dynamic Range (peak brightness and colour gamut)

Generally speaking the two are independent of each other. But, most of the time you only get HDR capabilities on newer 4K TVs. There are some 1080p TVs I think (from SONY?) that offer HDR capabilities, but again it depends on the signals getting passed to the TV. At the moment you tend to only get HDR signals passed through the 4K feed, but that will change I’m sure as it becomes more of a standard.

HDR gives you the ability to have a far greater brightness while still maintaining deep blacks, and gives you a wider colour palette. The net result is something that looks more natural. Like when the sun glares. On my OLED TV it actually dazzles your eyes like you are looking at the sun outside. Those glints of sun reflecting off the cars in replays look stunning.

But yes, SDR is fine, It’ll look great and be just as playable.

again, thanks. I got it to boot and the graphics look great. it falls under sdr, i guess. and both my tvs are right next to each other and gt6 on my 40" looks good, but the gt sport on my 42" looks better. ran both at the same time and gts beats it. both tv.s are 1080p 60hz. it just scared a newbie (ME) since I dont know a lot about electronics.

I thank you for your help. hopefully see you on the track. oh, and both tvs are pre 4k so that is prob why i guess.

thanks. as I didnt want to muck it up.

YES, thanks! cant wait till moday, but really oct17. all have fun. ffree to add me if you want. 'lav01' i am an ex racer and instructor from the bonurant school. i am old now and i play with a controller (wheel got stolen) so i need a little leeway sometimes, but its only accidental on off.s and/or wrecks. always clean is best in my book.

Haha, I prioritised a tech upgrade over a holiday! We already went away this year already so my partner didn’t really have a leg to stand on, and besides, it’s my house we currently live in so my rules when it matters :D

she didnt get the ps2 or ps3 or ps4, we have gone on vacations to vegas, california, mexico etc. i pay for nice dinners and such and its MY place. if i want to play some video games.... weellll, deal with it B. let me rephrase nicely. you live in my place for free..... you dont pay for much... and when i want a day off you freak out over me watching football (nfl as i dont know where ur from). american football. get a job and pay a bill then you can talk. /rant sorry bout that. gts cost me for the game and a weekend at a casino out of town and a couple of dinners and drinks. she lives out of state thank GOD. so i would be sure we are in the same boat. ok now /rant

cant wait for the game. im taking off a month to play it. she is working and yes ive already heard about it.

yes thats what my friends say. we actually get along really good, but she doesnt like sports, video games, cars, and weapons.

i grew up around all of the above, and love em all. oh well, but ur probably right. i figure if i get everything straight before she gets back, she wont notice. hopefully a steak dinner will fix it. lol. if she knew what i got ($$) in my RL cars she would crap a brick sideways for sure. then it would go on my forehead as im asleep. not really, its a joke, but you get the idea.

edit:quit teasing. tomorrow is football/beer/pizza. 4k just got put on my sched for monday.

edit2:any advice on a 42 or so inch tv with a great pic? i only have room for 2 in my room. gotta have 2 next to each other. oh, and she hates that too... list just gets longer. lmao.

My god. This game on my 4K HDR OLED. It looks like magic.
Cut it out. :sly:

I didn't get an invite to the beta.
And I've just moved house and the internet isn't connected.
I have mobile internet but the data cap would make this "free" demo mighty expensive.

And to top it off I have a new LG C7 OLED waiting for GTSport.

I guess I can take the pressure and wait until I collect my disc on release day.
But no doubt I'm jealous of those getting an early look.

Still, I'm a big boy now.
So I'm sure I'll survive.

Doesn’t it just?! I’ve got this running on my new 55” C7 and it looks absolutely incredible!

@lav01 if you are looking at 4K HDR then SONY and Samsung do some cracking ones. If you must have that size TV then I can vouch for SONY and their 43” range as I have one hanging on my bedroom wall, but the sweet spot these days is 49”, and for my money I’d be looking at the Samsung QLED range as they go very bright and do serious justice to HDR - probably better than OLED in that regard, but there’s more to a picture than brightness.

be strong jedi.

@JayneS
i just like to have 2 tvs next to each other and thats really all that will fit for my space.

edit2:maybe i will ditch the table and stack the tvs. id have to measure. she would notice that for sure....hmmm... bestbuy is my friend on monday.

What's everyone's setting for the HDR Peakness level? The one you can set within Options > Video Settings

My default the game sets it to is 4.

It all depends on your TVs settings for the input you are using. For me it ended up at 8 in the screen you mention. Absolutely no point drawing any similarities with your setup even if you have the same TV and global settings because your room lighting will be different. If you set it so that the checkerboard was barely visible up-front, you’re good to go.

Yeah I cranked the checkerboard up till the point I just saw it. One setting higher and they were not visible anymore.
I believe I have to set that particular setting to 20. And that meant HDR Peakness on 4. So I will leave it like that. :)

Yeah mine ended up being 30 I think during the original setup, ending up at 8 for the HDR setting.

I have lg b6 oled, what picture mode are you OLED owners using? HDR or HDR Game? Did you use default presets or made some changes? I’m using HDR mode with all defaults except turned on dynamic contrast to low and dejudder to 5 since the cars were looking a bit blurry in replays. May need to change once I can actually play the game.

I'm using HDR Game on my B6. I've changed settings based on info I read over at AVForums.

Do I just use stock settings for my LG LED TV "42LB550A" and standard PS4?

It looks great as it is but i'm a noob to all this TV tech lol

HDR Game on my LG C7, with pretty much all settings as per rtings.com for my particular TV. I disable as much as I’m able to to receive as clean a picture as I can and then go from there. So far I haven’t had to change anything really.

Unfortunately the best advice is to just find a site that has example settings for your TV and try them. Generally though, the right settings for you are the ones that you are happy with. As long as you like the image you have, it doesn’t matter how accurate it is relative to a properly calibrated TV.
