For kicks and Giggles I have restarted GT-2.
I spent an hour on license tests and got the IA license passing ALL but 3 of the tests on the first try.
I think that I have GT-3 and the Planet members to thank for my increased skill level.
I haven't done any races yet. That starts to day after I get the Super license.
I think I'm gonna try to go thru this one "fair" instead of just whipping out the Skyline and killing the competition.
Wish me luck.

It's so much more fun that way. You know what to avoid, yet you can "restrain" yourself. The most fun you can hacve with the game is to buy cars that genuinely fit the class of race you enter. Buy a station wagon, a convertible, a historic car, an 80's sports car, etc. and see how little you can spend on each to win races. Get cars from the 6 nations represented in the game for the GT Nationals. And building your own GT300 and GT500 challenger (rather than just prize-car-ing your way to it) is a lot more fun.

I like to use the prize cars for upgrade money, rather than just racing them, now that I've completed 5 games, and working a 6th one. This way, you really get to sample the ~590 cars in the game.

I feel the planning and lack of credits you begin with certainly improve your racing skills; not just becoming lazy about winning races, affording yourself mistakes.

Have fun!

I am going to.
This time I got the "S" lisence before I raced at all.
I did revert to old behavior and started with a Skyline.
But it's a low power model.
I have just won the Trial Mtn enduro with it, rated at 241 HP. I only lapped one car and had to 'stay on my toes' pretty much for the whole race.

More to follow...

Have a good drive, whatever game you're playing.

i don't know if i could get myself to erase my game, and even if i did i would go crazy driving around some 83hp car.

I actually have a "super" memory card that has 3 different "banks" with 8 'pages' to a bank which would allow me to save 24 different GT2 games. I share it with the kids and I have about 10 GT-2 games on it.
I also have a standard card with about 600 days on it. I have 92 cars on that card.
I really need to go thru the super card and erase some of my extraneous games so I know what's what on that card.

I restarted a couple weeks ago too for like the i dont know how many time...haha. I started out w/ an 86 MR2, but then i just raced the same race over and over until i got up a good amount of cash and snagged the 22B impreza when it first popped up, thats a hard car to get. Today i just did the 80's sports car race w/ the 83 RX-7, thats actually a pretty quick car. The thing i find kinda sad tho, is the fact that i beat the 591hp class MR race w/ my fully modded 279hp 86 MR2....thats just not right...haha

Except for that GT40, I pass all the Vectors, Venturis, and Elises exiting the 1st turn. If the GT40 doesn't show...the race's over by the first ess-bend.

yeah, the AI in the game isnt that smart... that's one main reason that made me start my page, to compare times with other gt2 players from around the world... i managed to win all FF races with a original Mugen Accord, and that one isn't anywhere near the power limit for the last race, and was original, had those yucky tires, and bumpy suspention...

the AI is ridiculous in the clubman cup rome short. A measly little mini cooper could come in 2nd place(to my 240sx) and beat other better cars. The cars there seem to have much more power than stock.

I'm about 10% complete and I currently have a 1005 win ratio. I did think that I was gonna loose one of the GT300 races at one point. I was in the Dodge Concept and forgot to set the gear ratios for the acceleration you need to win at Seca. Finally passed the car in first place at the Corkscrew and pulled out the win.

Next update:
I am at 40 days indicated. I have 37 races with 37 wins.
To make things more "interesting" I am going to (for the most part) not do any power mods to my cars. Suspension and Drivetrain, but not Power.
I just beat up on the 197 HP races and some of the 246 Hp races with a TommyKaira ZZIII. 187 HP and just about 1500lb. I love this little beast.
I am tuning using some of my GT-3 settings and getting some really awesome handling out of it.
Wish me luck.:D
Have a good drive

using original cars is no big deal... i beat the game tuning only a single car... because you start having so many new cars that you don't even need to change them in order to win all the races... and if you need, just grab a race modified car, like the Daisin Silvia and win the lower hp races, not hard... AI sucks!

You give the AI an awful lot of credit.
They aren't good enough to suck.

However, I have to say that the AI in GT2 is marginally smarter than the AI in GT3. I have never seen a "last lap pit in" in GT2.
