GT3 as car advice?

This is an issue that came to me, as I'm looking for a "new" car, and trying to decide what to get. It occurred to me that it'd be cool to check out some of the cars that I could afford in real life in the game.

Which lead to me wondering: is there anyone on GTP who has used GT to help choose a car? Or, even more extreme, actually bought a car based on liking it's GT3 counterpart?
 
Why would you use a racing video game to figure out what street driving car you want. Don't be so lazy and go to dealership and test drive some cars, read online reviews, and so on. But I can say that I have driven a Corvette Z06 and it felt nothing like the game. I could name a few more but who cares. My point is that you shouldn't buy a car based on a game, plus 80% of those cars aren't for sale in the USA.
 
Not to mention that because it is a Japanese game, there is a huge performance bias towards the Japanese cars.
 
No kidding. Just look at the way the Z06 and Mustang R handle. Sorry, but they handle amazingly IRL, but they just flop (z06 not that bad) in the game.
 
I have no intention of doing anything of the sort. I was just wondering if anyone had.

But, I can't go to a dealership and test drive the cars I'm looking at, anyway. I'm looking for something about 6 or 7 grand. In othr words, an old car.
