At the moment people use their cars as battering rams for driving around walls, ramming other cars out of the way etc... for the purpose of winning races and getting fast times. I'm sorry people but if you do that in real life your either gonna be dead, in hospital or locked up in jail. Come on GT when you say the Real Driving Simulator how can you say that without damage?? Half the problem has to be the car manufacturers themselves. They sure as hell dont want to see one of their cars wrecked and burning by the side of the track. Personally I cant see GT ever adopting damage for this reason alone. :shakehead

Amen Brother GVX!
I hear everyone say they think the car manufacturers would throw a fit over cars getting beat up. I, for one, do not think that would be a big issue for them however.

In the interview with the developers It sure sounded like a big deal to the mfg'rs. But I agree with you totally.

Yeah? Well they need to get over it! heh. Well thats the kind of stupidity you should expect from large corporations, I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

I don't think that car damage would be a plus for the game.... And I think that most people would agree with me in this: Wouldn't it suck wrecking your car on lap 99 in a 100 lap Endurance????

Maybe GT3 isn't 100% realistic, but it is still the best....And no matter what, there is always someone who isn't satisfied with the game....

No matter how realistic GT7 or GT50 will be, there is still going to be someone whining.....

Personally I thought the endurance races were BORING. A few times I caught myself shaking my head around vigorously to keep from going to sleep. This happens when you're up late trying to beat these long bastards and you've lapped the 2nd place car several times.

Car damage would have kept me somewhat more into the game. Plus, you wouldn't be able to use a rubber band to auto-drive around Super Speedway enduro for your F1.

The poll shows, more people would rather have it. I like the one guys idea where it is in sim mode only, and not arcade mode. Moreso, I think it should be required in sim mode and optional in arcade.

Simply to add to the realism, plus it would disuade those of us who like to use the walls (and other competitors) as brakes...

That is a very good point. It will keep those who wall grind to a minimum.

it would be sweet to have damage, but only as an option. on nfs: high stakes, there is damage, and it costs lots of money to fix the supercars like the McClaren F1.

also, Project Gotham Street Racing for X-Box has realistic damage.

i think the gt series is ok the way it is.

Damage has got to be a good thing for me at least. The other day I tried to corner my golf using a chevy day van as a leaning post.

This idea that the car companies can limit realism by withholding licenses worries me.

More realistic damage and a DIY modeller (so we could insert our own ferraris/lambos/mouldy old golfs) would counteract any reduction in 'offical' cars.

Hell lets have DIY AI constructs whilst we are at it!

loaded prosche_959
loaded ferrari_288_gto
loaded schumacher
loading senna...

Guess I will have to wait for GT9 at the earliest!

Well, I'll tell ya I'm hanging out for WRC (World Rally Championship), as a lot of modelling time has been spent on realistic crash damage.

I can picture it now - Ford Focus, flat at about 180mph at Corsica, flashes over the crest as I fail to hear Nicky Grist call 'caution jump into one right' and promptly destroy the Focus as it hits rocks pitching it into a multiple rollover....

Ahhhhhh.....

Could be worse: He could have called "caution jump into K right care drop! :)

Perhaps the damage issue could be compromised using flagging. For example, let's say you're in 6th (place) steaming up the hill in Seattle. You don't bother braking, just ride someone round the corner, and exit in the lead.

Now the AI would have to be pretty dumb to say you didn't confer an advantage (i.e. making a place, or not losing a place) by completely failing to use the brakes. It could then flash up a warning, saying "next time you'll get a penalty". If you then display such driving again, you'll be auto-driven through the pits.

IMHO, a "Real Driving Simulator" should not condone either explicitly, or by omission, bad driving.

it doesn't really matter but damage definitely separates the good drivers from the not so good ones b/c the ones who visit the wall quite frequently are going to run into some alignment problems ..hehe....i still knick the walls occasionally when i get too hopeful but its a real kick in the nuts when you're doing a 20 lapper with your buddy and you try to squeeze a tad more exit speed out of the car and you give the wall a nice gentle kiss......then your buddy begins to pull away into the distance
I'm referring to GT2 though............but i like when damage is an option like GT2 b/c you can learn the limits of the car better with the damage off b/c you're not as worried if you make a mistake........the racing tends to be a bit dull when damage is on b/c you know the consequences of a mistake so you're probably driving at , i'm just guessing about 90% of the car's potential

Ha!

I think after Colin's big one last year Nicky just rides the handbrake on those now!

dude, there was damage on gt2?

Sorta....there is a selectable damage option in arcade mode. The cars do not actually show damage, but their performance is affected. Usually it becomes difficult to drive a straight line after meeting a wall. :)

sorry i`ve been gone so long.those that remember me knew i`d be back.
i think the damage should be an option.turn it on or turn it off.not like in gt 2 either.i want visible damage.

 It would be better if we see these cars bang the wall too hard and driver inside actually die...:drink:

And what if you're running an Enduro race and on the, say 3 laps to finish line, you went straight to the wall and slammed your car too hard the driver was dead on the spot...

Then you end up quitting the race coz you're dead!!!
