I've posted a few threads now on various ideas I've had to play GT3 and GT4 on PS2. Firstly I thought 'right, I have a wheel, it works on my desk, so I must get my PS2 to play on my LCD screen' But I ran into issues, mostly being that even with my RGB connectors, apparently even with a RGB > DVI adapter, my LCD monitor couldn't interpret the signal (and it messed up all my desk wiring anyway).

So the next alternative was to fix my brothers broken, mega-awesome, Fat PS3 (originally $1000AUD when launched in 06/07, the full cream 80GB), but that would've cost $~200 as its an issue with the blu-ray drive not reading any discs.

The only other option I could think of, was to play go back to the PS2 again, but on my old 720p/1080i projector, but with a DS2? and I wasn't willing to move my computer desk down there every time I wanted to play either game clearly - so I ended up buying a near new RennSport Wheel Stand for $90 :|.

I realise its a great price, and honestly, when I replace the projector with a 1080 TV/Projector, I'll be even more glad I have it so it can be used for GT5 as well (and if I'm nuts, I suppose I could put my wheelstand in front of my computer desk? Just don't see the advantage).

However, now I want to know if anyone has got the G27 (or G25?) to work with GT3? I'm clutching at straws here a little bit, I know the G25 works with GT4 partially, wheel and pedals no shifter, so I'm hoping the G27 will be the same in that regard, however, GT3 is a little bit older, and surely while it supported wheels, it may not support the G27.

I do, oddly enough, still have my DFGT which I haven't sold yet, so perhaps that could work with GT3 or even GT4? Also this wheelstand seems to support both wheels, from the pictures I've seen atleast.

Any helpful comments appreciated.

Not sure mate. I can confirm that the G27 works with R burns rally on ps2 so there's hope I suppose.

Just the wheel and pedals Im guessing?

I'm wracking my brains to remember lol. Pretty sure paddles worked. I remember manual shifting.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

PS2 DEFAULT video 15khz output, even GT4 can output 480p and 1080i signal, you still need to through a 480i( 15khz) menu screen to activate the progressive scan function, so if you connect directly to VGA/ DVI PORT,the monitor cannot be sync.If you can only connect to these video port, you must get a video upscaler,to convert the video signal to 31khz or above. But the problem is,a good quality video unscaler processing unit not cheap, can be as same as a 32-46 inches Lcd TV. so ,I suggest you get a new TV instead.

My 1080i projector will do the PS2 just fine, it has done a variety of consoles in the past PS1, GameCube, PS2 (RCA/S-Video), and Wii at probably 480p, so it isn't the projector that Im at all concerned about really.

I can help you to check out if the G27 works with GT3 or not tonight.

Thanks Marc, ill be trying the PS2 with GT3 & 4 Tuesday night, so if you could get back to me before then on whether or not the G27 works with them, I'd be much obliged.

If your projector can support 480i input, then the problem maybe related to the output signal format of the PS2 Setting. If you using 21pin scart RGB cable, try select YbPbRb instead of RGB signal output. But I'm not sure what kind of cable you are using.(15pin RGB cable?)
About G27, it's work but not fully support, the key pad on the shifter can work normally, paddle shifter also no problem, gas & brake pedal either , but all the button on wheel and the h-shifter no respond, only support 180degree turning with motor "lock", that's mean turn over 90 degree left of right, the resistance will be much stronger but still can turn, no respond over 90 degree, just can work like a classic Driving force steering wheel.
And one more, after GT4 & GT5 then go back to GT3, the control is absolutely weird, using a steering wheel feel like play with game pad, turning respond have delay while high speed turning, but visually the wheel in game have no delay.

Yeah marc, you're completely off the... mark, there.

There is 'no problem' with the projector + PS2 with RGB, so appreciate the help but this isn't my problem. Moving on.

Ok, so how long ago did you test this? It's odd that there's delay at all for GT3, I mean, sure it was a while ago, but you think that would've been something... oh yeah, no internet, no updates, any bugs found were just 'live with it', hmm.

Anyway, my expensive solution to playing GT3 and GT4 will hopefully be ready tomorrow, so I'll report back on any anomolies, as it happens, I haven't sold my DFGT as I said above, so it may work out that I have two wheels and three games between them, which I think I could live with weirdly, even though the G27 then cost $220, and not the 'upgrade' price of $120 (after selling the DFGT).

Oh sorry, I just saw you said no signal detect through RGB to DVI into your projector, so....:nervous:

I did the test last night, I mean the delay, not really a hardware compatible issue,it's normal. Whatever you using a DFGT. DRIVING FORCE/PRO,GT FORCE, GT FORCE RX, will get the same result. The wheel control in GT3 was designed like gamepad control, for example, just as same as you tuning a low sensitivity of DS3 controller on PS3 GT5, so while you turning a corner at a certain speed, the turning respond will slower then what you expect, especially to a player who playing GT5 everyday.

I check it carefully to find out it's a real input delay issue or not, so I using a third person reverse view to see the front wheel respond, I can see the front wheels just tuning in sync with my actual steering wheel.

You know, GT3 it's a first title in the series support wheel control system,
without any compare, player will just get used to it, so, the"delay" not being a problem at all in the old days.

sorry for my poor english, hope you can understand what I said.:nervous::nervous:

Maybe I should skip GT3 all together, GT4 is newer, but GT3 was the most popular (possibly just because it was packaged with the PS2?), its only $3 so whats the risk really, and GT4 is only $8 so Im sure for $11 that'll be two really good games, hopefully one of them is worth the $90 I spent on the wheelstand.

Hi Conza, I test the GT4 for you, G27 can works with GT4 almost perfectly, just can't use the h-shifter. All the buttons on the shifter & wheel get function well by default. FFB very good, 900 degree turning works normal as same as DFP/GTFP.
If you asked me, I think it's really worth to spend $90 on the wheel stand to play GT4 on PS2. Still a really good games even I play GT5 everyday now.
Surely the physic cannot compare to GT5. But it's enough for casual playing.
The past 1 hour I seat in my cockpit cave to test drive on GT4 nurb ring. Lap by lap unstoppable ~ in the old day I using DFP that mount on a writing desk, and now using G27 and seat in a decent cockpit , the feel so good and amazing.

But GT3, I think it's really outdate at this time, so I'll keep a sweet memory in my mind forever~:nervous:

Im shocked, truely shocked. I don't know whether to be impressed with GT3/4 or newly (slightly) dissapointed with GT5 over what they cut in the transition to the PS3! The Sunday cup for example, 5 races in GT4, only 3 in GT5. In all honesty GT5 is still better, but not by as much as I thought (which is good for my new wheelsrqnd that Ill be getting tomorrow morning!).
