GT3 Much Too Easy?

I'm puzzled - I've only been playing for a few weeks, but have three cars in my garage that are destroying EVERYTHING that they come up against -

(1) Ruf CTR2
(2) Evo VII
(3) Nissan Calsonic

I have yet to complete the S Tests, but EVERY race that I can enter one of the above cars in - I win by 5-10 seconds PER LAP! The only setup tweaking that I do is lower the ride height to 5 mm above the lowest possible, and adjust the gearing depending on the track.

Yes - the cars are all maxed out with upgrades but it strikes me that the challenge is gone from the game.

Please somebody tell me that the S class races are incredibly difficult (although I hear that a 787B will destroy all-comers.)

What's the deal?
 
GT3 can be as challenging as you want it to be, you should probably save those cars for the later competitions and try to beat the earl(ier)y races with a car that's equal to the opponents.
I have 4 F1's but I don't use them 'm !ever! since you can't lose in these babies and there is no fun in racing...in stead I often race in a totally inferior car and try winning...now that IS fun!
 
I totally agree here. It's only as fun and competetive as you make it. If you really want to deal with the challenge, do the Time Trials in Arcade mode. To beat the game, you have to get first in all the time trials. Best of luck to you, bro! (:

One of the great things about GT3 is the scalability. If you want a challenge, it's there for you, all you have to do is pick the right car. If you just want to blow through the game, collecting cars for the 2 player aspect then you can do that too. :)
If you want to give it a little extra kick, try the arcade mode, and highlight 'hard' Then hold L1 + R1 and it will switch to 'professional.' (you could also try using one of the default arcade cars instead of using your garage cars.)
And as LoudMusic said, the Time Trials will humble some of the best drivers. (You have to place first on all of them in order to get 100% in the game) :)

Sorry guys but I have to disagree with your opinion that the game 'can be as challenging as you want it to be'.

ANY game can be that way. For example, you can make Quake III very hard if you make a rule for yourself that you will only ever use the shotgun. Or take F12001 - you could decide that you will never use 6th / 7th gears to make the game more of a challenge.

My point is that I believe that there is a fundamental design flaw with this game. Now before anyone gets all hot and bothered let me state that I LOVE this game - it was the main reason I bought the PS2. But the difficulty gradient of this game is not correct. The game is set up so that it SEEMS as if the professional level races will be harder than the beginner's races. But in reality, by the time you start to play the pro races, you could have won cars that make the races a joke. You should NOT have to sit before a race saying 'I think I'll give the computer a chance and remove my level 3 turbo'. You should be forced to say '**** - I've added all the upgrades and I'm still struggling to qualify 3rd'.

Like I say - I'm no GT3 expert - I don't play with all the settings (and I don't even understand half of them!). But when I enter the speedway 150 enduro and by the end the 2nd placed car is TWENTY LAPS behind me, it's a bit of a joke. (And I wasn't using an F1 car).

The simple remedy? A difficulty setting (something that 95% of EVERY other game has). So you complete 100% on EASY? Move to NORMAL. Then move to HARD. Then to EXPERT. You can only unlock the sexier cars on the harder levels (along with.....God forbid - bonus tracks!)

This simple bit of forethought on the part of the designers would have greatly added to the game's appeal. As it is I want to play games that challenge me - not games where I have to decide how to penalise myself to get a challenge.

I really sorry to have to say this but in the last week I've stopped playing GT3 because of the aforementioned reasons. I'm sure that I will come back to it from time to time, but I just can't shake the niggling feeling that I'm setting the computer a level of difficulty so that it can compete with me.

THe design of Gran turismo has always been one of its charms. The game is not metro street racer, there are no "levels" and no secrets to "unlock" You can play the game at your own pace. You can buy a miata to race against F1 cars. You can race an F1 against Miatas. The game is set up so that if you want to win a race, it isnt hard, but if you want it to be, it can be.

If you win a race in an F1, you run the course and get bored. If I race in a miata, I am struggling, and pushing, and Having fun. Fun my friend, is all you get out of playing a game.

So what, it's easy to get a high completion percentage? Big whoop. Do you brag to your friends about how much of the game you finished? I havent moved beyond 80% in months. Sure it would be nice to finish, but my 1000+ races and 30% loss ratio (70% win) are what made the game worth playing.

You call it a design flaw, I call it wonderful.

Yeah man do as Pako suggested if you want a challenge , thats what the challenge section is for and there's plenty of eager racers in there to take you on! seeing as you are so good prove it ! ;)
 
I think GT3 is ok, it's not too hard or too easy, I usually dont race with my F1's except if i don't have much time, I usually race with my favourite cars, its pretty fun if you race with the cars you like, even though they aren't that fast, I still have fun.

My favourite Cars:
S2000 LM
Impreza LM
FTO LM
 
Have you done pro yet? I oike the F1 championship. Its a great challenge, especially on the Test Course where Drafting and pit strategy is key. Love that championship though after the first race you need an oil change.
 
i agree completely with motorhead. i think the ai is retarded and therefor the game is a lot less fun than it could be. even with retarded ai though, the game could be better by having the difficulty setting seperate from all the races. so you dont have to race in the "easy" or "expert" leagues at all(forgot what theyre called). i enjoyed arcade mode more because i could ignore all of the other races and just race in professional.

by the time you get to pro races in sim mode you have very quick cars. i dont really mind that because i wont try to race other cars with a way faster car than them. but when you have to purposely use a worse car than your competitors so you have a challenge it gets annoying. you have to agree its dumb when you have to adjust the mods you have on your car during qualifying to match up with other cars.

but just for the reason that you have cars that would waste the competition and you have to restrain yourself, i would say the game is way too easy. even though need for speed 4 was a pretty bad game, i had fun with it because you have to think about your purchases. if you make the wrong choices you will struggle. my memory may be bad, but i remember gt2 being more like this. i had to restart my game a few times because the first car i purchased with the 20,000 credits to start with, couldnt compete with the other cars. i think gt is much more fun with the race restrictions from gt2. a hp limit and class limit for almost ever race. you couldnt use an escudo to waste the other cars in the station wagon series. you could only use another wagon.

ive said it many times before. gt3 is a hotlapper. its pretty fun for online racing and just trying to improve lap times, but its not more than that. i will play gp4, gp legends, or colin mcrae for a challenge.
 
oh yea, pro just gets more frusterating. whenever theres a race with tire wear it is very easy. theres no way to know what everyone else uses so they will likely pit before you. sometimes i get in a good battle for first with another racer, but then on the last lap the guy pits. now thats thought out ai.
 
I certainly don't think the AI are retarded. Considering they always take the best line with the fastest speed on almost every single corner, they really are quite challenging.

Of course nothing is stopping you from just buying a faster car, but that's not the AI's fault. They're doing the best (and doing it perfectly actually) with what they have.
 
wow you guys are really sucking polyphonys cocks with that "real driving simulator" marketing bull****.

im talking about how the ai reacts with other cars on track. i dont care how it goes through a turn if it goes the exact same way while i am in front of them. programming a path through a track is easy, but the ai should know multiple ways through a turn and it should know how to react to other cars. the ai cars always ram me in the ass in turns. its like they dont have brakes. tha ai cars are way too physical. this isnt NASCAR.

Im beggining to think there is no damage in the game because sony cant program a decent ai, not because of licensing restrictions. if there was damage in the game with the current crap ai, there would be a devistating mess in the first corner of every race and then all cars would be out of the race.

i restate, the importance of a good ai is how it reacts with other cars. not just knowing the fastest line through a corner. if an ai car always takes the fastest line through a turn and doesnt recognize other cars around it, there will always be scrapping going on. that isnt too fun.

EDIT: i should say again i dont think its a bad game. i just think its a bit overrated and there are some flaws to it. I always hear people praising it. its finally good to hear someone with some criticism for it, and i agree with motorhead.

Well the problem is this:

Sony didn't program the AI to "think on the fly". Essentially, Sony didn't make it so that the AI controlled racers react to your every move. I'm sure that everyone will agree with me that in every game...that's impossible. The AI cars are not to "physical". I don't understand how exactly they could be "gentle" either. Basically, if you're done with the game...move on OR play Time Trial because that's where the best talent is determined. Until GT3 becomes available over the internet or you have buddies over playing it with you, you're always gonna get a mess at every corner with the AI simply because they're not humans.

Well it's time consuming. It all depends on whether or not you have the Stage 3 turbo installed. If you do, you win. If you don't, you'll have a tough time running with the other JGTC racers.
 
yea rice rocket. i started with finishing arcade mode, tt was really fun. im going back now to improve my times as much as possible.

by physical i mean the cars ****ing ram into you on every turn. just race at ss r11 and you will no what i mean. they could be gentle by NOT doing this, haha.

and i dont want a challenge by using a lesser car than the competition josh, thats not what im looking for. im looking for a good ai to play with. i would give an arm and a leg for fun overtaking in gt3. that would make it closer to that "best race game ever" polyphony already claims it to be..
 
With a game that has as much freedom as gt3 the challenge is really in your own hands. You may choose to be evenly matched with the computer or you can tune your cars way beyond your opponents (to lessen the difficulty). Basically the game is as hard or as easy as you make it.
 
okay, weve heard enough of that "as hard as you make it" bs. the challenge im talking about is owning a car good enough to beat other racers. there is no point for the lower grade mods, like in gt2, because you already have so much money. theres no challenge in getting cars that are fast enough to beat the competition.

having no actual race restrictions doesnt help. as i said i wish there were hp restrictions like in gt2.
 
Well you can put the restrictions on yourself, instead of just whining about it? Try racing with a car that is level with the competition, and it is not bs, it is true. I bet you are one of those people that just uses the F1 through the whole game, not even trying to look for a challenge and then complaining that it is too easy. Roll and eyes. :rolleyes:
