Alright I have a major beef with the pits in GT4. Yea so what they got a pit crew, thats great and all but way too much was sacrificed for that. First of even though I see the crew taking of my wheels half their leg is still inside the pavment which is annoying. Also where the heck is the guy filling up my gas tank? I see him as my car leaves but never him actually filling up my gas tank.

Alright now to my real point. GT4 Pits are awful.

As my car comes into the pit right behind another car he turns into his section which was before mine. My car passes RIGHT THROUGH HIM. I was like what? Did i see that right. Sure enough it happened next time also. So its not a big deal but in GT3 i had pit crashes all the time and no cars passed through eachother. Maybe PD didnt think there was much of a chance two cars would pit at the same time to actually travel throguh eachother.

Then during my Circuit de la Sarthe II Endurance Race my Minolta Toyota 88V-C was pitting in behind the Sauber Mercedes C9. So as i watch my car cruise down pit lane it is at the front view looking back. Well the C9 is nowhere in site in its pit. So i thought maybe it was done. Well no, half way through my pit stop i hear it lower and speed of and watch it pass me. So the other cars disappear while in the pits.

Sorry for long post but overall i think too much was sacrificed for the pit crew which in the first place doesnt look very good. Thanks for reading if you did.

ha you think that is bad
in 2 player mode
there is no pit crew
it becomes gt3 pitting
car raises, tyres turn blue and off you go
at least gt3 you could see the other car

Yeah - the way other cars disappear is annoying me, you see it following you down the pit but then vanishes as you pull into your garage...

For a game which prides itself on attention to detail, it's quite an ommision.

I'll take changing tire type over not seeing another car in the pits for 3 seconds any day.

IMO GT4 pits > GT3 pits

Another thing I noticed is it takes 10-15 seconds longer to pit in GT4 vs GT3. I remember losing about 20 seconds to the other cars in GT3 but it is over 30 seconds in GT4, especially if the gas is really low. But then, being able to do tire adjustments is a BIG plus.

The pits are really dissapointing from a graphics perspective for sure......PD made it out that it was going to look really amazing in early builds but now the pit crews look ulgy and angular.....

I don't think the fuel filler guy even exsists........Ive never seen anyone fill the tank......

im positive i have seen the pit man holding the fuel hose, that is the pal version im using, and yes it is annoying to see other cars enter the pits with u , then they dissappear, we must remember the playstaion is getting very dated and it probably couldnt cope with all the pit crews in the pits at the same time, we'll no doubt have to wait for gt5 on ps3

Hells yes, I completely agree. 👍

Y'know, based on the symptoms it almost sounds like PD had an issue with cars running into each other in the pits during development and as a workaround, simply made all the cars incapable of collisions during pit stops. If they hadn't done this, we'd probably be complaining about those pesky traffic jams in the pits instead.

The cars disappearing probably as to do with polygon counts, there's only so much stuff the graphics hardware can keep track of. Same thing that keeps you from being able to race the "special" cars like the Nike One. If you drive it and watch the replay (same applies to the ancient Benz, the Model T) there's a heck of a lot of movement, so the thing has to run by itself. To add the pit crew, they had to remove the other cars. Simple as that.
That's why we've always had only 6 cars in a race. Not because it can't keep track of more, but because they're too complicated to draw all at once. The cars have the highest graphic complexity of anything in the game. We could have had larger fields of ugly, blocky cars. . .

I'd settle for less graphics detail if I'd get more cars and more realism. Concerning pits and pitsops "Le Mans" is still the best - by far.

ok people yes it sux a bit with the cars not beening able to be seen in the pits . but i think that it is far better than GT3 it more real with the fueling and tyre selection . OH YEH i have seen the fuel guy filling up my car in the pits it was on one of the eundro's think it was la-mens so its 👍 4 me

What's really disappointing is that there's no way of taking any photos of the pitcrew (crappy as they are). Woulda been nice :indiff:

I'm with Hun200kmh. Le Mans is an old game, it looks really old these days but look at some of the features (that should be in all games not just GT4).
- proper animated pit crew, for refuelling and tires. If you came in just for fuel the tyre guys would look as if to say, no tyres mate ?
- Weather forecasts, sometimes random, one minute sunshine then rain, your strategy included the weather
- you couldn't stay on the track in the wet with slicks !!

Big shame GT4 could not take this on board, especially for the endurance races, and Le Mans had no B-spec ! but you could save when you entered the pits.

How about the brake discs? When the wheels come off, you see a flat blue-greeny brake disc wannabe... PD could have spent a bit more time in the pits I think

I've seen the Pit Crew when I B-Spec'ed the 24 Hours of Le Mans (with chicanes). Even with my 2004 Pescarolo C60, the gas can man must thing I'm racing a Hummer H2 than a real race car. Then too, imagine all the people who complain about the littlest elements. You know, not seeing the reflection of your car on another car, "fake" reflective mapping, an invisible pit crew, and all that. But you know what? Be careful what you wish for. You just might get it. The unsung heroes (and maybe heroines as well) of racing appear in your pit stall, ready to service your car and be the critical factor to winning races. You're the quarterback, and to make that touchdown, you have to rely on your offensive line for maximum protection.

To make a long story short, the visible pit crew are a first-time deal, so don't think that it's going to be all perfect. Actually, the pits are now more exciting to watch. It's very interesting to see the pit team replace your tires, fill up your gas tank, and let the "lollipop man" (or maybe lollipop woman) let you know when to take off. It's a lovely deal if you ask me. If you choose a bad tire setup in GT3, GT2, or GT1, guess what? You're stuck with it for the entire race. Pit strategy is obviously a great part of winning races. So I say that GT4's pits > GT3/GT2/GT1 pits.

Or are you prepared to intergrate a poll with this thread to see what we really think? Regardless, I think with graphical flaws behind, GT4's pits are actually better and more exciting than past GT games. But if you want an invisible crew with no tires changing, suit yourself, homie. And I guess fuel is endless in past GTs too, I guess...

Heh, after you leave, the pit crew just freezes there as if they have nothing better to do until you drive away, where they go inside to the little pit shack.

The pit crew is okay I don't really care as long as I get my tires and fuel.

I say PD should recall the thousands of copies of gt4 sold as it is obviously unplayably flawed...

Its the PS2s hardware fault rather than PD as far as I know.

wah, wah, wah... on most of these threads.

all I hear is complaining, if you hate the game and aren't happy with it? keep your comments to yourself and stop playing the game. PS2 system can only do so much, I feel PD tired their best but some people are just so hard to please!

(IMO) I'm just happy that I can get fuel and change tire compounds. which is a plus from GT3... "something positive for you negative people"

Kouki_AE86, I try to stay optomistic on things. I love Gran Turismo 4, and I try to express my points in a way so that I'm not hating the game. I think the word on why games like this get hated on is one word- expectations. Gran Turismo 4 taken a while to make, so not a lot of people cared after a while. Expectation is the key word. But for me, I had reason to be happy because Gran Turismo 4 is coming back with a sequel. I was so damn happy when I got it over this past Spring Break. I still love the game even with the notable flaws. Don't get a brother started on online play and all that. Why so? It's all about the game. Always has been, since Pong.

I still think PD did a great job with this game regardless of delays or what have you. Whatever flaws there were with pit crews will likely be modified or improved in GT5. Personally, I would have loved to customize my own pit crew like in the old NASCAR Racing games from Sierra/Papyrus.

Actually, you can see the pit crew(s) standing in the pit boxes when you go by on the main straight, at least I did at Tsukuba while running the Roadster 4h Endurance. Just look right (if using the bumper cam) as you exit the final turn. Might just be your pit crew, but there are definitely people standing there.

i found out that there is a bloke who you can see filling your car up with petrol
if you choose only to refuel, the camera is forced on to him inserting is pump into your car
