Hello guys
I am thinking of ordering the fanatec H shifter (when they are not back order) and was wondering if it will be playable if I have my FF maxed out. As of now the high end cars are hard to drive with one hand on the steering at high speed.

Are you guys having issues with it? I know ill only be having one hand on the wheel for a split second so maybe its a non issue ...

Also did driver 1.08 help with thr deadzone or was the driver released for the new gt2 compatibility issue?

I turned up my deadzone to 20%. Anyway, I play the game realistically, if it has a sequential shifter, I use my paddles. If it has paddles, I use paddles. If it has a 6 speed, I use my 6 speed.

I do what UK-Gamer does and try to replicate the setup of the car I'm driving.

I think using the shifter and clutch adds a lot to the immersion, but it's a lot to handle in the heat of a race. Plan for a learning curve. Once you're in the zone, it's awesome.

Also keep in mind Fanatec's shifter set is a little overpriced for what it is. They function well and engage positively, but they're plasticky and hollow. The mounting system is also a little janky.

You should be fine. I dont have mine maxed on FFB. Something like under 5 ingame and 70-80% on the wheel with deadzone set to 0 but I have no problems at all driving with one hand when I used the shifter.

Well, it certainly tests your skills to add in the shifter/clutch factor to your game, that's for sure.

I too try to be true to the car I'm driving, although I'll usually fall back to the paddles if I NEED to win.

I think having a stick shift adds SO much, I can't see not owning one... but I'd still hold out for a better alternative.

Thanks for the replies. I was effraid of the wheel shacking too much.
Did you guys do the mod to make the shifter more silent or do you feel that people are complaining for nothing

There is a mod, however, I don't need it. The only thing is that the clicking sound makes it feel as though the shifter is going to break in your hands

The shifter is very 'clicky' and IMO quite loud. I did the silent mod and my shifter is all but silent now. However for what its worth I would hold off(if you can) for the Clubsport Shifter. The current shifter is functional but feels rather fragile, mushy and the shifting isnt very confident.

No need to worry about FF with one handed driving. It's possible you might find yourself a bit sore after a long driving sessions but after a little while your muscles will rise to the challenge. After all, people got along fine for almost a century without power steering in real cars, and at low speeds that's WAY more force than any gaming wheel could dream of achieving :)

Regarding quiet shift mods, I don't think it's worth voiding your warranty over. I tend to tune it out while concentrating on driving. Might bug your roommates though

I don't know about holding off for the Clubsport shifter. 2-5 months from now it's supposed to be released or announced for preorder or something, but who's to say that means you'll actually have one in your hands within the next 6 months? IMO the fun of driving with the shifters far out weighs the $50 (which really isn't bad for 2 peripherals and mounting hardware, even if it's a bit plastic-y). Shovel some driveways, it'll build you up for that FF too ;)
