Apparently someone's managed 1:14.330 at S-license test 6, Laguna Seca in the viper...

In my favourite car, the Viper Team Oreca, seriously I did what I thought a perfect lap, setting 3 out of 4 of my personal best sector times in one lap, and got 1:15.303. I don't think I'll ever do a better lap than that. How do they do it?

They are very, very, very good. I'm not trying to state the obvious. These are people who have dedicated massive amounts of time and practice to getting that level of consistency and skill. And all the fast times are backed up by video replays, which are carefully analyzed for hybrids, runoffs, wall touches, etc.

It's why I decided to have fun with OLR and not worry about being a back marker... because I'll never be up front.

I'd put money on that being a genuine time too.

Hmm. Indeed it is, having been checked as the top time at Racing-Line too.

... And with BobKart and clan watching over the database you can bet that anyone trying to *extract the urine* will not last long at the times. Equally, Pedro and crew over at the Line are equally active at executing *dodgy-doings*.

"Edmar" is a known good-guy 👍

I use AT. I don't see how it would help to use MT, apart from maybe some corners where the computer makes you shift mid-corner, which is annoying. I can't think how else MT would really help though.

AT is easier, and i always play on mute (I play at night and dont wont to wake family up), also I like the AT because you dont need to concentrate on those revs. :scared: :dunce:

AT constantly makes you drive out of the power band that the Viper has. Using MT, you can make sure you try to stay in that range and have the maximum power down nearly all of the time. If you talk to nearly all of the fast GT3 drivers, they will mostly use MT.

i agree with you eddie, but with other cars it doesnt make the greatest differnce. You can still win in AT and you can still drift, so, im sticking with my AT, unless I get a Manaul for my first car,(real life) then ill reconsider.

Of course you can still win races in GT3 with AT. The AI is crap in the game, everyone knows that. But most of the high powered cars in the game are turbo'd, so you can get away with using AT because the power kicks in at around the high revs. But driving NA cars with big torque, your best to sometimes shift a bit earlier coming out of certain corners, and using this method in the high powered, NA Viper. It can sometimes really help to use MT.

My times are much slower with AT, because I'm constantly second-guessing what the transmission is going to do. With MT I may blow a shift now and then but it's second nature and I don't have to worry about when the computer is going to decide I need to shift.

There are people way faster than I who drive AT, though. If you look, all the top times are pretty evenly distributed between AT and MT, DS2 and wheel, and analog and D-pad. It's much more about the driver's preference and skill - there's no magic method.

MT is definitely a must for absolute top times. No question about it, there are very few combos where the AT suits the car and track perfectly. I've raced Edmar a bunch of times at our iLink races in the Netherlands, he's a pretty dedicated guy and I really only stand half a chance against him in live races, where I'm fairly decent. But he'll generally squeeze out the better lap eventually. He's a young little fellar too, only just recently turned 18 I think, so unless a girl takes him away from the GT scene, I'm sure you'll see him a lot in GT4. :D

I find when driving MT I don't actually ever look at the rev counter, the sound of the car is enough to know what #K I am in. I suppose all car drivers use this technique as "second nature"....as you say. I personally am not a car driver being 3 years younger than the legal age but just sitting on the start line waiting to go, revving the engine to the redline to hear the car is enough to know how it sounds at certain rev places.

Yeah, I realise that driver skill is utimately the difference between a good/bad time. But there are some certain, different skills or techniques you can use to go faster.

AT is easier for sure yes, but slower. ;)

Anyway you really have to use MT for getting a fast time, AT is nothing on this test. :) Always take a gear to high and try to use throttle control especially on the hairpin (Croks Crew). 👍 :)
Yeah AT is slower because it shifts too early right at redline. My advice to you F310B is never give up I had to do it several times before I beat it.

Thanks Daan, I knew I always thought I was one! :p

@ F310B: The time is legit and if you have an X-port i can send you the replay. :)
The shifting is the key for a good time.
Can I get it Edmar? Could I also get your S4 lap too?

I can feel a S license video page coming on....

Once you drive anough with MT (in game and real life) you really get used to it and you get a lot more control over what the car is doing.

I really like MT in endurance races. I feel more in tuned with the game. I think it helps you conserve a little on your tires and oil when you are able to go through a corner a gear up.

The other good thing about having MT is that when you are driving a turbo car with big power (eg. Not a lot of low down torque and tons of top end power) you can stick a gear or two high so that you dont have it in the power band when going around slower corners, kinda like a poor mans TCS system. It dont work on cars with lots of torque down low real well but.
