GT4 Beginner's Drift Compettion....?!?!

I think you're overlooking the essence of a Beginner Competition, NK.

The whole idea behind this is that full courses will not be used. We are going to use handpicked sections that emphasize a variety of cornering obstacles that remain suitable for people new to drifting.

By picking only small sections two things should be accomplished:
1. The entrants will show their best drifts. They have no reason to be cautious to protect their lap, and nerves should not become as much of a factor here as they do towards the end of full lap runs.
2. More experienced members/judges can remain more focussed in their feedback towards the newer drifters.

I won't debate with you that TM is a great course to learn the basics, but it is unneccesarily long for this competition. The same skills that would be displayed over a full lap of TM can be tested equally well on just 2 or 3 corners. The pressure on the entrant is significantly reduced because less consistency is demanded from their drifting. The whole thing is meant to be easier - hence the name Beginner Competition.

If you want to run full laps of TM, you can do so at your own leisure and wait for it to come up as a track in the GTPDC.

Im still askin for TM to be a full course

Remember, this is a beginners competition... We are using sections instead of full laps so it is easier on the contestants... They can just concentrate on one section, instead of worrying about puting together a full clean lap...

Wait for GTPDC....thats going to be long for me but what if we have like special rules for the beginner's like we do for the Pro and Intermediate, well nvm then, I know the outcome might like having the special olympics with in the olympics but I just contradicted my self in my train of thought but this is a short fight I put up....

Ok i been thinking and i would like to enter this but i have a small problem. Swift said that im not a beginner. Now compared to the likes of DR, BL and the rest on the big list i could rattle off, i am a beginner which leads me to a small skill dillemma. So how about a couple of groups in the same competition. You can have New Drifter (beginner), Been Drifting (Advanced Beginner) and I think i can drift(intermediate). Now i hear you cry "how can we set the groups up?". Simple you allow each person to choose the group that they feel comfortable in. I hear you cry again "what happens if drifters are better than the group they are in?". Simple - Just move them to the group above where they will be in the correct company. This would erase the need for a ranking system as people would have to take it upon themselves and as and when they are confident enough they can move themselves up a group. Seeing as there are three founders of this comp too you could all mentor a group each.

I know you guys (DR - Swift - BL) want to get this thing up and running smoothly so although my idea could add complications to the intial start it is something wich could be easily implemented when you see fit.

Just some food for thought :)

Spec...

Great idea! I would be in the Intermediate rank, since i can now drift stock versions of the Jag XKR Perf. R and TVR T350C on N2 tyres...

I thought its a good idea too but getting the comp up and running first is the priority, like i said its something that can be implemented at a latter date if the demand is there

Everyone who wants to join competes the first week to gauge their skill levels.
why, then there is no point on practicing for the final video then if we have it all spilt up

it works in the GTPDC's with a Pro and Amateur grouping NK. And weren't you just saying in a prior post something about putting together different groups with slightly different rules?

Anyways, thanks Spec for the grouping suggestion. We'll think about it for future runnings if this first one goes well. As you say, our main focus at the moment is just to hold a successful event with a good number of applicants. We'll use our first event to sort of 'test the water' and see what changes may be necessary in the future to make this idea even better.

I was talking about special rules but if we have that, its like having the special olympics in the olympics

...just make sure you don't come down with a chronic case of the 'black bar' syndrome at the last minute.

We're very close to being ready to run this thing. A few little technicalities for us still to sort out - but we're making ground. For all interested, a Sign-up thread has been prepared HERE
