GT4 drifting much harder compared to GT3?!?!

GT4 is much harder to drift in compared to GT3, in some cars it seems somewhat unrealistic. GT3 was a little too easy to drift; you could just flick the e-brake to throw the car sideways, add a little counter-steer and throttle play held the drift around the turn. Also, in higher horsepower cars, you could just go full throttle into the apex and rear-end would slide out into a beautiful drift that only needed minor corrections. But in GT4, It is a whole different concept. It has been very difficult to get a car to do consistent drifts. I think of it this way, if a game won’t let a car do doughnuts (GT4 will not, the car just does circles w/out the back-end swinging around.) –then it seems that the game isn’t meant for drifting. :nervous: However, I am not saying that you can’t drift, I can, but it just takes A LOT of practice and seems like a whole lot of “feathering the throttle” but with out letting off the gas. I love GT3 for drifting, and I'm really good at it but, i would hate to leave GT4 to go drift in GT3. GT3 had a menu setting in arcade mode, “drift” or “racing” I haven’t seen that in GT4. Correct me if I’m wrong, but is GT4 difficult to drift in, almost as if the cars are not meant to do so? Please tell me what you think. My problem may be tuning/tire/and vehicle choice. What tires should I use? What should my basic suspension settings be? (I know they differ for all cars, but a base to go from) …ride height, spring rate, camber, strut/sway (stabilizers) strength. Any other setting that you guys know of that need to be changed in order to build a successful drift car? 💡

Thanks,
Steve

Donuts have nothing to do with drifting..when will people figure this out. My god.....

try out a few setups in the Drift Settings Depot and see if you find a style that suits you, and yes, GT4 drifting needs a lot of modulated countersteer and throttle inputs.

Hmm, James Bondurant said the opposite of donuts...

Hmm, Chris Forsberg said the opposite of donuts...
if your talking about the formula D show then he said donuts help you sense the cars breaking point and help you get use to drifting..but he didnt say they stop you from drifting.

this is true but it still sorta makes you call the physics into question. I still think GT4 is the most difficult yet rewarding simulation of drifting. you just have to skip the donut step when drifting in GT4, no way around that.

you caught me there, I had the name wrong before I edited it

DRIFTER-X, look at the FAQ sticky at the top of the forum page, it has plenty of useful links to get you started.

This ones done, its Swift's turn.

I feel like this is major deja vu. Don't be surprised if this thread isn't here soon.....:sly:

ouch ... thats harsh lol.

Not really... There are many threads that make this thread pretty useless... Just Use N1, N2, or N3 tires and your car will be losing traction easily... There are many helpful threads on this subject... Search for em...

Yeah Swifty pretty good at being precisely blunt.

Drifter X- GT4 is an entirely different game. New engine, physics, etc. The only thing they likely used from the previous titles are the car frames and some of the track layouts. Just do some digging around you'll find the answers you seek(some are even linked in several members threads). So I'd leave the comparisons to GT3 out(there is one if not two threads already). If you have any other questions go ahead and ask them here if you can't find an answer by searching the fourm.

yes it is a lot harder to drift in gt4. its still very possible but takestons of practice. so much that i think im giving up on 4 =x i dont have enough time to play and be good im just gonna get my fix gt3. kinda boring tho =[

I think its more realistic with the physics in GT4 with drifting, than it was in GT3, which is why its so hard to drift in GT4. As you can see from any real drifting video download off the net, drifting takes alot of inputs, and isn't just a touch of the hand brake and countersteer.
The ease of drifting in GT3 just shows its arcade like physics compared to GT4. Also, I think watching the replays of GT4 drifting is more rewarding than those of GT3's.
Just my 2 cents though.

Yes and No. Yes, donuts are not drifting, but the physics stay the same; drift: a controlled slide, but donuts can be a controlled slide, if you do big donuts, or 'drift circles' the physics are the same when you drift a turn. When drifting, you may not drift 360* around (like a donut) but you might drift a 180* bend, and when you think about it...it’s like half a "drift circle" only longer and larger. BUT! of course the techniques are not the same, drifting is MUCH MUCH different, its just that the is doing the same thing; the rear-end is sliding out. -so i was just saying, though donuts are not drifting, drift cars can do donuts. thats it.

i'm actually better in 4 than i was in 3. it may not be as easy, but it requires you to be smoother.

Yeah, I guess I will have to give it much more practice...I can't just expect to be as good as I am in GT3 in GT4, since i really have just been racing in GT rather than drifting, I needed to get money for my drift cars, and now that I have it, it's time to get started!
DRFT!
