Just got back from an event called "Gameworld 2003", which was held in Helsinki. There was a demo version of GT4.

They said it was basically the same thing as GT4 Prologue. According to them Prologue will be only sold in Japan (didn't say nothing about HK). There isn't an official release date as of yet, but most likely GT4 will be released around summer 2004.

There will be no damage modelling. The reasons basically are(according to PD) that it would be so difficult to create a realistic damage model, manufacturers don't want to see their cars trashed and the car wouldn't survive the first crash (doing 150 and crashing to a wall, bye bye).

As we speak PD is negotiating with manufacturers so they could add more cars. This is one of the reasons of the delay. GT4 would be like a journey through the history of sports cars or something like that.

One other reason why the game is being delayd is that the AI needs a lot of improvement.

No skidmarks, this is due the fact that it would require a lot of memory. PD wants to use the available memory in car physics and graphics.

Online support to up to 6 players. The online play wasn't working at event though. They mentioned that there is a possibility that you can download cars but not tracks. This would require a HD?

The game looked really nice, we couldn't play the game ourselves. Only the guy showing stuff played, he showed the Grand Canyon, New York and Citta di Airi(sp?) courses (he couldn't drive for **** ;).

👍 For those reasons I'm willing to wait.

Downloading cars would be nice.
The AI is a must and to get as many cars in as possible is very important as well.
The lack of damage would be more to do with licences

Forget downloading, I'm guessing that someone will make a program where you can make your own cars. That will be a sweet thing when it comes around...

Yeah first things to do would be update the damn colour schemes on the rally cars ;)

I'll wait till winter 04, I want that aI perfect and more cars, that matters to me alot. Maybe we will see Ferrari, lets hope ppl.

Wow, a company explaining why they delayed a game (cough *VALVE* cough). Looks like they are making very good compromises for a greater number of cars, and if they do manage to get Ferrari in, let's hope to god they include the Enzo and the F-50

Damn the Enzo, that ugly crap LOL; the F50 is needed and some ferrari LM cars.

as i mentioned in another post, i believe porsche and ferrari are signed to project gotham racing. Now i am not sure who the makers of this game are but its only on Xbox. So unless Sony will pay a (probably rather large) contract termination/breach of contract penalty i can't see them gettin on GT4

EA has the rights to Porsche and Ferrari. Sony doesnt want to pay an excessive amount of money to EA to share the rights.

No, it's Sega that owns the Ferarri name for now. Micro Soft, which owns EA I believe, payed mucho bucks to Sega for the right to use Ferarris in their games. The Sega - MS contract ends in 2004, I think. This means PD, or Sony can make a deal with Sega if they want, but I don't think they want to.

Microsoft doesn't own EA, where did you hear that, and EA still own the Ferrari licence, Microsoft had to pay them to share it with them.

No no no, you will not be building your own cars in GT4 like in PC games, that would be utter crap, I'm sorry but GT is mainley about the cars and it's very authentic, to have people creating stupid cars with whatever performance they want would ruin the game completely,

FC Barcelona and live4speed are right. EA has rights to both Ferrari and Porsche.

Since EA and Sony are wonderful bed buddies, I'd hope EA would share a little...

OK, I heard that MS was going to purchase EA, but I guess that's over.

No, EA doesn't own the Ferarri license. Sega does, and EA licensed it from them. MS licensed it from Sega as well then. That I do know, for sure, from somebody within the video game industry.

how can u diss the enzo, its another work of art by ferrari(tho F50 is hot too)

The purchase story must have been about Lamborghini, EA bought the company that was making a game with only Lambos.
But then they stopped devellopment of the game and fired all the employees of the other company, so they only have the Lambo-license left, but that's what they did it for in the end.

Now they have 3 of the licenses most wanted for GT, Sony will need a lot of money if they want one of them.

I would be fully satisfied with a "history of sports car racing" without these 3. There's more then cars enough left to fill 5 GT games.
It's the manufacturers themselves who should complain if they're left out :p

Why doesn't SEGA GT have Ferrari's if SEGA own the licence, I've always thought EA owned the exclusive licence since NFS3 and have updated it everytime it's neared it's end.

Valve delayed for several reasons...

1.) Nvidia wanted to make their own graphics software and hardware that makes it so they have to program now for two completely different cards instead of just two cards that are very similar.

2.) The leaked HL2 source and game data makes then have to a programming overhaul

I thought Sega only had the F355 license, not Ferrari as a whole.

Valve didn't postpone HL2 because of the leak, they just used it as an excuse to postpone it further because they never had HL2 finished to begin with.

Maybe Sega didn't have the license yet. I have no idea how this Ferarri license crap is played. lol

All I know is Sega has the license, and EA bought it from them, and MS did the same. Maybe Ferarri has the only say what cars a game company can use. I was told it is mostly owned by Sega since they don't make money from making games anymore. I think they could have now moved into gaining license agreements as a source of revenue. I really don't know.

I think Viper Zero is right, SEGA own the licence to the F355, but EA actually own the Ferrari licence. EA haver owned it for years so theres never been a chance for SEGA to own it. MS paid EA to use the Ferrari's in PGR1+2. SEGA do make games now, they've got one coming out soon for PS2, they don't make consoles anymore, and they arn't moving into licencing agreements, it would work against them in the long run, no one would buy off them and they would go bancrupt, then the licences are fine to be picked up by whatever developer wants them.
