GT4 HDD problem

Hello everyone. I have just finished patching my GT4 Pal iso, so that it can work with my HDLoader. I followed the guide step by step, using the g4 pal core pff and the sces517 pff required for the pal version. Everything went just fine and got my iso created (5.23 gbytes). The thing is that WinHIIP (v1.7.3) says that the image is of an "unrecognised file format" and cant install it. HDL Dumb can though. So after installing it using the latter one, i try to play the game but the only thing i get is a black screen. I tried switching the game into modes 3 and then 1 using winhiip again ( it can edit the image once hdl dumb has transfered it) but still no luck. Can anyone pls help?

Also got it working a long time ago, it took a lot of tinkering to do it using the origional method (+ I'm no computer wizz). There probably are easier ways to do it now?

All I can say is that you have to check and double check that every single step has been done correctly. Be sure that you use PAL files. As TigJackson mentioned, be sure to check out this topic.

I remeber that I had a similar problem ("unrecognised file format") and that it was due to using a NTSC file where it had to be a PAL file. However, in the guide that I was following at the time, it forgot to mention that PAL users had to use the PAL file. A good way to find help is to check out problems that other people had and see how they solved it. I found my info here (may need to register for the forum).

I've been really happy with how GT4 works with HDLoader. I don't mind leaving the playstation on for longer periods of time when playing from the HDD and there is noticable difference in loading times! We've got 2 PS2s around the house and I still play the DVD version from time to time.

Good luck!
