Hello, not new here, but new posting. I generally lurk....

But after grazing a bit, I noticed the LAN/Network play guide was no where near as comprehensive as mine.

As proof I was one, if not the first to come up with a complete guide, Ive copied the guide, as well as the Thread on another forum, when I solved it.

GT4 LAN/Network Play
=- - - =
MY official GT4 LAN/Online Table for Networked Play.

GT4 does have online play, but you must use KAI software WITH your PC and a router with a switch to hook up your PS2 w/GT4.

Is it worth it? Some say yes, some say no. I tried it- when it works, it is smooth. Google http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/for...25254.

LAN support? YES

Gran Turismo 4 does support LAN play.

HOW? it is complicated. I called Tech support- they got me all the way up to the ONLINE specialists. He AND She did'nt know s**t.
After research, 3.5 hours of trial and error- we (my GT group and I)
Found the keys.

Step 1, to play with 3 or more PS2's in GT4- you need-
4 port or more network switch that supports auto negotiation. 1 CAT5 cable per PS2, 1 copy of GT4 each, and a TV for each unless you have Picture-in-Picture.

Step 1A, Crossover cables complicate settings-use a 10/100 switch.

Step 2, connect all equipment, turn on all PS2's.

Step 3, enter LAN play under OPTIONS, set the unit up with DHCP OFF, yes OFF. then Turn of Automatic configuration.Turn AUTO CONNECT to OFF. LEAVE ON Physical Configuration. Assign a subnet of 255.255.255.0, use standard IP of 192.168.0.X Where X can = 1 thru 6. Meaning Playstion consoles connect total. ie, each PS2 has A number out of the 1-6 available.

STEP 3A, Next, change the Console names, anything you like, we used 1 and 2 and 3 and 4, you get the idea. They CANNOT be the same. Change MONITOR to 0. Set Type to =- PLAY, do not choose live or monitor.

STEP 3B, Set only 1 MACHINE to HOST, this machine JOINS LAST believe it or not.

Step 4, Change Network name for you network profile- create one, save it, name is DIFF than the other PS2's you want to network. we chose A, then B, then C, then D, you get the idea.

Step 5, SAVE.

Step 6, go into your normal single player race , go to car selection screen, ADD up to 30 cars as your favorites. This allows you to use them in LAN MODE and 2 PLAYER MODE. if you dont, you are limited to 12 or so cars. I begin working on Garage Cars this week. EMAIL me or STAY Tuned!!!

Step 7, set LAPs and stats for racing under ARCADE mode in OPTIONS. this is how you set laps, tire damage and other pert. options.

Step 8, SAVE

Step 9, Go into ARCADE MODE- go to Multi Battle. HAVE ALL players EXCEPT [HOST] enter the game, give it 10 seconds, WAITING to CONNECT will display. AFTER ALL 5 players are WAITING- then send the HOST in to play the game. This player will begin the game. HE/SHE who is HOST chooses all the tracks.

Notes- choose ALL 30 cars or split them, so people have plenty of choices- because the DEFAULT garage choices are limited. SAVE after you choose all your cars.

Notes supplemental- YOU must reboot your PS2 to exit the LAN Battle Mode.

My thoughts- SONY and POLYPHONY DIGITAL did a sh**ty job with LAN play, left out ONLINE play and did not even think to include some ideas to get the whole situation resolved. NOTHING. I won't be buying GT series anymore. PERIOD.

Enjoy.

To the admins of GTPlanet, I do ask you to update your LAN play guide with mine, and just give me credit.

Seems like a good guide but the first link doesn't work unless you have an account there

I find Droptop_Chick's setup guide easier to use because it has pics in the thread and complex instructions. Nice work though, 👍

Or try Wastegate's Guide (with pictures and everything!)

Good effort though, DeepFreeze.

You can put any numbers between 1 to 999. the most important is that the numbers have to be all different from each others.

In my case, I always, as a host, connect first. The others players connect all together few seconds after... and it works well!

Except that, you did a good job! :)

Actually, no. When I did this with other people, the host went in last. not the clients.

i chose 1-6 so the mentally challenged would go, duh....

i was trying to shy AWAY from complexity.
