Don't have one
Hello. Welcome to the first ever competition of racing on Time Trial mode on Gran Turismo 4.

It is basic. You play with the selected car I choose, on the track I choose, and take the time.

RULES
01. You will be given a car to drive and a specific track to drive on.
02. You must stop at the start line when you begin.
03. You may not modify the weight, power or top speed in any way.
04. Once you have done a lap, finish and exit.
05. Take a photograph of the time you have done it in for proof. Don't worry about it being previously posted on Flickr or similar albums.
06. At the end of the month (around two days till end of month) I will publish a Word document on the thread to view yourself. The winner will win the chance to select the car and track for next time.

SELECTION
CAR: Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren
TRACK: Fuji Speedway 90's

RESTRICTIONS
You can either have Traction Control, but no Auto 'box, or the Auto 'box but no Traction Control. Stability control is always allowed.

Closing date for entries 25th October 2009
Document Publishing on 28th October 2009

Good Luck!!!

Hello. Welcome to the first ever competition of racing on Time Trial mode on Gran Turismo 4. *Cough*WRS*Cough*

02. You must stop at the start line when you begin. How do we judge where to stop, I can see some inconsistencies here
05. Take a photograph of the time you have done it in for proof. Don't worry about it being previously posted on Flickr or similar albums. And for those who don't have a working digital camera, etc.?
You can either have Traction Control, but no Auto 'box, or the Auto 'box but no Traction Control. Stability control is always allowed. You can't only have ASM, you have to have TCS too, which pretty much forces you to go no auto or no Assists.
Responses in bold, sorry if I seem a bit harsh :)

*Double Cough.*

The GT4 Weekly race series ran for 184 weeks (that's over 3 years!!) and featured many, many hotlap comparisons between :gtplanet:'s drivers of all levels in GT4 Time Trial mode.

As MinoltaMan89 has pointed out we still have an ongoing subforum for laptime challenges, and as such this laptime challenge is being moved into it.
There's also the short race series challenges that are still being run at the moment, lots of which are done in time trial mode.

You'll also have to think a little about your rules as far as what is submittable.
How will you prove that someone did actually come to a full stop at the start line?
What about corner cutting, wall-touching, etc.? You'll need to address disputed areas of track in terms of what's considered legal or not on a track-by-track basis depending on the strictness of your rules. Take a look back at page 5 or so of the WRS Archive link and look at the way their rules are laid out to avoid ambiguity, and possibly have a look at some of Austin343's events in the Short Race Series forum for some good ideas too.

Fair does. Some may not have a working digital camera, but you don't need a digital camera. You can have a simple disposable or Film SLR camera.

Also, it is simple. Where the start line is is often marked with a white and black checkered-pattern on the road. It isn't difficult all in all.

Also, forget about the ASM thing.

I don't have GT5P yet. I don't even have a PS3 yet.

There's a few tracks where the line isn't marked, El Capitan comes to mind, and what I meant is how do we judge where to stop and take off, if I stop further back, then I get an advantage because I'm going faster when I cross the line.

You obviously didn't read Smallhorses' post carefully. He said to proceed to page 5 in the Weekly Race Series Archive subforum, where you will find some of the final weeks of the WRS that used GT4, which was the game the WRS used for 184 weeks.

Concerning the way you intend us to drive time trials, which is to stop at the start-finish line, your idea is certainly fairly original and perhaps a better and still-realistic test, but it falls short in practicality, as already noted. There is a significant advantage to be gained by stopping just slightly short of the line, since the timed lap would start at a much higher speed. And how would you ensure that everyone followed that rule strictly, if at all, if only a picture is required?

I really think that you needed to stop to think for a moment before calling this the first ever GT4 leaderboard competition. Given how integral and obvious a part time trials are of GT4, believing that the biggest GT forum would never have had events organized around it is ludicrous. I see how you might have missed the WRS archive and current race series, given that they aren't in the GT4 forum, where you originally posted this, but it still should have been clear that your idea wasn't original.
