sorry if this has been discussed already (i'm sure it has been), but i've looked and cant find the thread if it has. if it has then please link me to the thread and close this one mods. if not, then i need answers for the questions below, thanks :)

i'm planning on getting a PS3 with GT5 for X-mas and i just want to make sure i can transfer my licences to GT5. i've spent MANY hair-pulling hours to get Gold on all my licences including the coffee breaks and if i have to do it all again on the PS3 i will be...most annoyed.

so, can i transfer ALL my licences over from my PS2, and are there any new licences i have to worry about??

Nope, you can only transfer cars from a GTPSP into Arcade mode (not sure on the exact specifics as I don't have a PSP to test it with).

:ouch:👎:grumpy:

i hope your either wrong or kidding?!

you telling me there is no way to transfer my licences from GT4 to 5? 🤬

PS, i dont have a PSP.

You're gonna want to learn how to drive in GT5 anyway, GT4 just doesn't feel right after playing GT5.

You do realise that you don't need licences to race in GT5, right? You only need to be at the required level for a race to enter it.

Besides, as has been said, you'll want to go through them at least once. The physics engine has been given an overhaul, so the cars handle differently to previous games and the licence tests give you a good opportunity to come to grips with the new physics whilst brushing up on your driving skils.

I have my GT4 save game on my 60Gb PS3, and can confirm nothing transfers over from GT4 :grumpy:

And you're going to want to earn the rewards -- including Experience Points -- for passing new licenses. As chumuel said, the license tests are there to teach you how to drive in GT5 -- and introduce you to some of the new tracks, too.

And to add what drivingmeinsane added while I was typing. you get points towards the racing levels for passing tests -- and going from bronze to silver to gold -- just like winning races. (After GT1-4, it is a little weird to be able to move up to racing in an upper level without a required license, or even completing all the events in the lower level.)

tbh mates, i wasn't expecting the same playability, handling or physics between the 2 BUT, i'm in my early 40's and have held my real licence since i was 17 and there is no way i would sit a modern driving retest...by the same token, i have no interest in the licences, i want to get stuck in straight away and learn as i go.

for some (if not most), that detracts from the game but not me, i learn best when getting stuck in. i see the tests as nothing more than simulation of the game and not really bothered if i have Gold or whatever (i only did it the first time after my brother said i couldn't do it), but having said that, i don't want all the hours i spent going down the tubes because i have to waste my time getting at least a bronze licence just so i can unlock tracks and events.

well, that something at least.

Comparing old GT games' license tests, GT5's license tests are much more forgiving. I've golded up to iC so far, no problems. Lots of trial and error and I am definitely driving better through races as a result.

but if i dont need licences to play GT5 whats the point of them, to drive better in the game?:odd:

You level faster with licenses... I wouldn't want to do the sunday cup a million times just to gain a half level.

AH!

so, in short they have added an extra dimension to the licence "system" and its not simply there to unlock tracks/cars/whatever....

i spose thats kinda cool 👍

Exactly! Another tip, get through B licenses and go through doing some of the Special Events and come back for A licenses if you need to level a little more. The Special Events give out money like crazy (though it only gives out money once after you beat each target time)
