Hey guys, this is my first post on here, i found you searching around for GT4 info to make the time pass wating for november :nervous:

anyways, i have got a question.. i bought the official network adapter for my PS2 (with the central station registration thing), i've never played online with my PS2 before, but i get connected and everything i bought it only for GT4 so i didn't bother using it after installing it. Well, that was last fall, when GT4 was supposed to come out before christmas last year, and in the meantime i didn't register for central station AND lost my reg. details, :scared: sooo, will GT4 need a central station account or what if not then i don't care but otherwise i might have to call support or something to get this fixed.

if anyone could shed some light on this it's much appreciated!

There is not much confirmed about GT4's online mode, so i really have no idea if it will need it or not. Oh and welcome to GT Planet :)

Welcome j_, read the how to guides on posting before you get jumped on for being a n00b... =)

If you've lost the card that came inside the Central Station box then you will not be able to use Central Station, unless you buy a new adapter. So If GT4 needs your Central Station handle you're buggered, plus all competitions etc will need CS. :dopey:

sure? if you lose cd-keys for games like halflife you can sendthem your cd and they send you it back with a new key cancelling your old one.. its easily done and seems rather harsh u need to buy a whole new adapter

So, this Central Station thing is only in Europe? Cause I´ve never heard of it...

I don't recall having a card like that, does NA have tha card too?

Surely j_ can call a support number and quote a serial number or soemthing. Or they can give him one they keep back for just such occasions.

No this is only for PAL regions.

This is the card

And this is Central Station

well, i'm not paying for a new one, even if is is only €39 or something.. the serial number is at the back of the adapter, that should be sufficient to get my details worked out with their support staff. since i don't care about any other titles than gt4 on the ps2 my only concern is wether or not i'll need to call them about it, not if i need to get another adapter because that is out of the question.

i just got off the phone with sony nordic and they gave me a new # on the phone, probably you will need to be registered on central station as they said because it's a "sony game" and sony only uses central station.. (i guess that makes the non-official adapters out there useless for GT?).. anyway it should work now, thank to everyone who replied.

Registering for Central Station is far less painful than many PS2 online registrations I've faced, it's worth it. Glad you got your problem sorted - in future you might want to make a file or something where you store all this stuff. I have a text file of every serial number I've ever acquired for quick reference.

^ As Eagle said, make a file in the future. It should really help, and is worth it according to GameStop, and EB.

Does it cost money to play online? just a quick question that I wanted to ask.

Of all the games i've played online on the ps2, i haven't payed a dime, so i don't think you have to pay to play any online games on the ps2, but you have to pay for xbox live i believe.

Games on the PS2 Network Entertainment system remain free at the moment but with the condition that individual developers (technically including Sony) have the power to introduce fees at their discretion.

After registering with Central Station, i put all my info back in the Adaptors box and stored it away, this also comes in handy if i ever want to sell it, not that i will its the best thing i bought in ages.

Playing online does not cost anything at the moment, but your ISP will, playing online will use your downloads, so if you have a limit i suggest checking it every few days though i was told it uses about 20MB per hour or something like that which isnt bad.

Central station itself is fantastic also, but i hope they introduce a games list which contains all the games, and i hope you can click a game you want to look at and not only see screenshots but also be able to watch videos. I mean everyone who uses online is Broadband so i dont see what the huge problem would be with it.

It may come as the service evolves. It is relatively new after all. Online play is dependant on the actual game and how good its network code is, but 20mb/hour is a reasonably generic figure.

That's why a ton of people use Connect.

Not that asking for fees on games played online is that bad, but forcing people is wrong. FF that comes on the HDD is apparently only playable online??? and you have to pay $12 a month or something like that to play it, that is forcing people coz all the FF lovers will buy it and pay it.

The gaming companies must realise that yes we do play them, but also we will have to pay extra fees if we break our download limits, IF they could work something out with ISP's where there were no limits to downloads, then it would work out better, but still it would cost an arm and a leg over a period of time.

Free for all is my motto, lol, and i think thats how it should stay, coz when you think about it not EVERY game being released is online theres only a handful out of all the games released on PS2 so i wouldnt think it would be a problem especially with the PS3 expected within the next 2 years anyway.
