I have a suggestion. I think it would be best if that, once GT4 is released in Japan (Dec. 4th) that no spoilers should be posted in Thread Titles. I do not want the game to be spoiled for me. I will not enter the GT4 forum until after Dec. 14th when I get the game.

For example, If Porsche does make it into the game as a big surprise from PD, I do NOT want to see a thread title in the "last message" box next to the GT4 forum that says "PORSCHE IN GT4!!!!111OMFG!!!!11" or "Opinions on the inclusion of Porsche in GT4." I think that a temporary rule shoud go into effect that no spoilers of any kind should be listed in thread titles. I am not going to read any official car lists, reviews, or anything like that until I have checked all of the manufacturers out when the GT4 disc is in MY PS2. If some people suggest that I don't vist GTP at all, I won't do that. There are plenty of other excellent forums in GTP.

I think this would be very good, considering most game forums have a permanent rule that says "No posting Spoilers without warning."

My two cents...

I think this idea is useless, because look, when somebody posts a thread about a new car other than a Porsche like a photo of it, is that not a spoiler?

That is, and that's the reason we visit the forum for the latest information.

The only way to stop this kind of thing would be to take away a users right to create a new thread.

The "no spoilers" rule on most websites refers to story elements, not aspects of the game itself. A racing game doesn't lend itself to spoilers the way, for example, Metal Gear does. My suggestion would be to simply avoid the forums after the game's release if you're that dead-set on avoiding the surprises that PD has for us. There's a difference between a "surprise" and a "spoiler"... if PD released a complete car and track listing later today, I'd certainly want to read it.

Weren't you already "spoiled" to find a version of a McLaren in the game? Or to find out about the Nurburgring being in?

Jedi said it best.

Maybe i shouldn't have used the term spoiler. Suprise is more like it. Even If I do avoid the forum, there will still be the "Last Message Posted in..." That has the thread title.

icemanshooter: Maybe Mod intervention might be in order, they can edit thread titles. If there are spoilers in the thread's posts, that is fine.

Stopping people putting spoilers in thread titles is virtually impossible. Even if there is a policy whereby mods will edit out nuisance titles, there will always be a period between when a title is posted and a mod edits it.

If you dont want spoilers, dont go to the GT4 forum 👍

Hey Mike!

Um..... The titles would show up anyway. If you hit new posts. Those titles will come up. 👍

People who get the game first are going to want to talk about it and all its 'suprises' with others in their 'region' who also have the game. You can't ask people to not talk about GT4 until it is on the shelves worldwide - we probably won't get it until April 05 in europe!!!!

I suggest not coming to GTP as the best way to avoid spoiling it for yourself.

Are you kidding me?

Like most people are saying, don't go to that Forum. We've had, like a honour thing in the GTA Forum where noone posts spoilers in thread titles. Also, in non-San Andreas threads, you don't post spoilers. If you have trustworthy people in the Forum, make the rule. It might just work.

I'm not telling people not to discuss the game, but not to blantantly put the surpirses in the topic titles. Instead of posting "PORSCHE IN GT4!!!!", make it "A suprise from PD" or "New Car maufacturer in GT4!" This is just a suggestion. I can always just try to avoiod the GT4 forum and collapse the Gran Turismo category in the forums. 👍

But anyway Kevin, just don't look at it. It's only 1 sub-forum, so just ignore it. Scroll the page all the way down if you have to.

You're all forgetting one very important thing - click.

Not viewing the forum doesn't automagically stop the thread titles from appearing in the New Posts now do they? So technically, icemanshooter23 is correct. Unless you either:
  • Not visit the GT4 forum along with not viewing the new posts
  • Not visit GTP at all

But, he didn't mention anything about doing that. If he does that, he has a point, otherwise I think he can simply just ignore that Sub-Forum.

If he does do that, he should just not bother doing that. Simple really. And if you don't want to stop doing that, Kevin, then just take a 10 day break from GTP.

And "that" is... ?

Whatever, I can just do this:

I'm just saying that the only way to remove spoilers completetly from the Gt4 thread would be to take away a users right to make a thread. The mods wouldn't be much of a help because there would a short time from when the thread was created to the time it was closed. Individually, the solution would be to just stay away from the GT4 forum, or just GTP altogether.

Well, for the sake of organization, I would actually prefer thread titles to contain the relavent information about what is inside of them. That's really the whole purpose of the forum: so that people can talk about what is in the game.

Exactly. Nobody's forcing you to visit the GT4 forum. In fact, what did you do before the internet...?

My theory is to ditch the entire content of the GT4 forums until the de facto version of GT4 arrives. Everything else will just flood the board with nonsence when some of us try to do a search later on.

Not sure if any else thinks it's a good idea, but I thought the point of a video game board was to have factual content, not conjecture, what-ifs, and it-would-be-cool-if-this-was-in-it...

Just my 2 centavos.

Please don't say anything like that again. You sound like my Father.

Yeah, but I feel kind of cheated by playing GT3 after I knoew where all the prize cars were, all the cars that were available...you get the idea.

When I first played GT2, I avoided the interent for advise/cheats/hints until I'd completed the game. I was bored, and consulted a once-well-known GT site. I havent bee bored since.

There's some people that will consult our boards before considerting having any fun with the game.

Yeah. I regularly kept very up-to-date with all of the new details about Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, but never looked at any missions. I've gone a long way on the game, and I haven't looked at any Spoilers since the game was released and I haven't consulted any Strategy Guide (even though I own one). I've enjoyed the game more.

I kept up to date with the Details, because I like to know what new Features will be put in the game. Although, only half of the new features were released, which made the game even sweeter.

Spoilers ruin fun.

Hey, how did you do that forum category disappeary thingy?
EDIT: Nevermind, i found out how. Hehehe. :sly:
