GT3 has 100x better drifting physics than GT4. GT4's physics are fun, frustrating and retarded.

GT3 OWNS for drifting.

Real life is 10x harder than any video game because of g-force and fear, and the fact that if you f' up you'll have to pay for it......possibly with your life.

However, the skill is about the same. Learn car control on GT3 NOT GT4 if you're wanting to apply it to real life. But nothing beats going into a gravel lot and hitting the gas to learn. Then applying it to wet pavement and dry if your good enough. Be carefull :nervous:

assuming i get a racing wheel like the DFP, how realistic is drifting in GT3 and GT4 compared to real life? can anyone compare the game to what you do in rl?

Dude, this is the same thread you just put up.
Well about your question I wouldnt know.
Im not sure whether to report this, but if I do or someone closes it, no hard feelings, a'ight?

I think drifting is more realistic in GT4, and from driving in real life and treating my school's parking lot like a race track on some weekends, if you se your DFP setting to "simulation", it feels about the same. If anything, the only thing you miss out on in GT4 in comparison to real-life driving is the G-force.

do you have to be hard on people reply in pm to take it up with me

ok that was possibley the dumbest thing i have ever heard no offence. it is much more realistic in real life because it is real. GT4 is all good and well but they one missed out on the oversteer physics complettely

sorry but you cannot compare real life drifting to GT4 drifting.
GT4 is meant to be "life like" as close as possible, and in real life, well, thats real

RogueSSv is very correct. This is a duplicate thread. Duplicate threads are simply not tolerated.

Since the GT4 boards are much more active then the GT3 boards, why even post in the GT3 boards?

Also, the techniques used in GT4 are similar to real life but obviously it can't make up for the feel of being in a car. Just like the regular racing.

Yay, support from Swift!
Just glad I did the right thing, sorry if I came out too hard, I tried to be as soft as possible;)
Dont worry, you'll learn. It took ME a 1 week ban :( but I learned.
And since your'e new and havent done anything really bad like advertising or clearly deliberate spamming, you should be safe. Just review the AUP/ToS and youll be fine :)

There're 2 types of physics involved in the game. Car and tyre physics.
Car physics is way better in GT4.
Tyre physics is more accurate in GT4 (grip mode). When the tyre slides, GT3 tyre physics was just better (it doens't mean it's closer to real life).

GT3 OWNS for drifting.
Not for me.

Various on opinion. Because I can't really tell since I only been in a FF drift but I would say GT3(majority of opinions out there)....well there is Gt4...wahhh I can't choose T-T.

Wait... what the ****?! The last time I was here, job35234 was the thread starter. And now.. wait... WHAT THE ****!?
Wait... what?
Wow.........WOW.................OK. I'm going to leave now.........this is freaking the **** out of me.....
Wait.... and now I suddenly say the exact same thing RSDrift just said? WHAT THE ****!?

I moved the post guys. Relax! :sly:

Both are not even close.. everything goes faster and there is the treat of you dieing. If anything GT4 is a bit closer with the DFP but no clutch makes it lose some of that.. and both dont have G-Force so you cant really say its like real life... once you drift in real life you can feel what your car is doing and what tires doing what.. etc... be safe.. have fun..

I think that sort of difference is assumed.

Do you even bother checking what you type?

I have yet to play a game that has come close to real life drifting. GT4 is a bit retarded for drifting. Has anyone done a succesful donut in this game? It's like the cars are all open diff. In real life, I have the car stopped, I turn the steering wheel all the way, I rev my motor, and drop the clutch and my car is spinning. In GT4, NOTHING! The car will go around in circles, spinning tires, but the back end of the car wont step out. The e brake barely works in GT4. In real life, you better be careful with the e brake. GT5 should have a clutch, so that way low powered cars, or if you fall out of the power band, you can kick the clutch, and get the tires spinning. Weight transfer in GT4 (atleast for drifting) is way off. But the point is this, drifting in real life is hard, especially if you are learning in an AE86, like I am. GT4 drifting, not so hard, but you need to know how to set up a car in the game to overcome it's flaws.

Go play Enthusia Pro Racing.....You won't regret it. Trust me. I have a DFP + MC2 set up so I can do clutch dips and e-brakes and shifting more realistically in that game. I think it's down to 9.99 at most places if you can find it. + it has a touge (Dragon Range) that is just like a real mountain road...point to point and everything. I drift my 240sx all the time in real life and sometimes I can't tell the difference between the two. It's that realistic. I love it.

While you guys are comparing drifting physics in simulators, why not throw in LFS into the equation. Sure, most of the cars aren't based on real life models, but they simulate the configurations they represent. Let's not forget that LFS is still in it's alpha stages as well, and it's already far ahead of it's competitors (road car sims).
I'd love to try out EPR, but noone around my vicinity sells it, that dragon range track sounds like fun...

Btw, Rogue, just because someone has less posts doesn't mean he is still new.

GT4 doesn't come close to RL drifting, all i have to say everyone thats a fan of drifting NEEDS to be in a car when a massive feint is initiated, there are no words to explain the buzz of it..

agreed.....in any game, there is no sense of fear or danger. the only worry would be to avoid damage to the car to save credits, but that obviously isn't the case in GT.

I spoke about this already on my home forum. GT4 is realistic in certain ways, but Polyphony dropped the ball JUST before they could bring it home.

The simplest way to prove this is to use a setup that would work in real life in GT4. It won't yield any results and if it does they're limited.

Not to mention the fact that it feels like you're driving a floating car. The G-ball is barely believeable.

(Apologies for mentioning enthusia, the bane of GT4 fans)

Enthusia however has a realistic gravitational model, not to mentioned physics that translate well into real life. However, there are some things Enthusia cannot do that GT4 can do, and that is what causes people to rank it higher.

My 0.02 cents.

I read somewhere that GT4 cars supposedly have had their ability to perform "donuts" removed so as not to encourage them in real life, so I was thinking that if this was taken out it must affect the cars ability to drift (well it least at the ease at which in GT3), your thoughts?.

actually it is possible to do donuts(ok semi-donuts).take the supra(rz7 or smth).tune her up(way up).take the nitrous.steering aids off.and into the parking lot (cant remember the name for the coffe cup places).turn the steering wheel left or right.hit the gas with brakes on.let go of the brakes.and apply nos where needed.

...my $.02...

GT4 can be applied to real life drifting but is obviosly a game so wont come close. Its Especially annoying when someone says that the steering wheel makes it feel like a real car drifting. The "physics" of the drift in gt4 are about as close as i've ever dealt with from any other game, except for the oversteering thing...how your car can suddenly just stop oversteering mid drift... I think someone here called this the "stalling drift"???

I thank GT4 for helping me to learn how to feint and apply EARLY counter steering.

Um, as soon as my buddy finishes editing a drift video we made this weekend I can post it up if anyone requests.

How did you exactly set it up to be able to do that?
