Week 147 Race Specifics:

This week we have to drive both cars around Midfield Raceway and then combine our best lap times from each car for our final submission.

The Cooper must be driven in blue.

All areas in the tunnels are part of the track. Just don't touch the walls or go on the grass with more than 2 wheels.

Stewards Comments:

A little slower this week ;) I've tried to get both cars to lap around the same time, but I wonder which one will turn out the fastest for you. Give it a go and find out.

It's up to you guys how you post the splits for this one. :)

Enjoy.

Sweet combos for this week Jerry 👍👍 very innovative stewardship i would say :) both sweet and slowish cars but on a real GT4 designed racetrack. Right on to it after submitting my 146 lap.

btw Jerry have you been popping the question or something? Seems like you know about old habits LOL.

I ran 25 mins in each car to get the ball rolling ..

Alfa - 28.100 / 54.166
Mini - 27.953 / 54.156

It's very easy to get close to your limit in not many laps with the mini ... The alfa is not as easy! but there will be more time to gain against the mini for the next session 👍
Midfield is always nice to drive as it's so easy :p
Cool combo's

This one looks like a lot of fun but I might have even less time this week than I did last week. :-(

10 laps in alpha: 28.545 / 54.616
5 laps in mini: 28.288 / 54.590

fun combo :), but no time to work out the kinks. :grumpy:

First splits:
Alfa 29.172 - 55.981
Mini 28.696 - 55.525
Please post in this order to keep it easy for the updaterers.

Now why should we drive the Mini in blue, and what blue of the two? :)

'Bout the cars ... the Alfa (ptw 5.000) is obviously the better ride with higher revs, lower weight, rwd and better looks (to me anyway) but the Mini (ptw 6.720) has more power and higher straight line speed. Funny that the steward picked a ratio where the Mini ptw x100 is exactly the Alfa weight. Great that even I don't need TCS this week LOL.

The title is just a little dig at the BMW MINI for borrowing the name of the Classic Mini. Using blue will assure that British Racing Green isn't used and it's also in keeping with the title.

Any blue will do.

BTW,
sometimes you aren't supposed to 'get it' because I'm the Sphinx. ;)

OK i 'get' that you like to play the mysterious type and that we should keep guessing at your texts :)
BTW your using the '&' sign in the week title made Luxy go beserk and me trial & erroring about 30 times before finding that out :yuck: but now i know for the next time 👍 still weird because it should be considered as text as it is surrounded by quotes "-" :odd:

New leaderboard initiated but i don't know if you like this layout. It doesn't add the total t-times so if you guys prefer that I'd be happy to change it.

First combo pic just for the fun of it - hey I understand Photoshop! LOL

Are we suppose to race these cars against each other. Damn, last nights session is no good then...! Nice shot Steven.
About the luxy. Could you do it like the week 134 Loctites. Just state which car you want posted first.
I tried this combo shortly late last night just to check the specs. The Alfa seemed more fun to drive. I'm sure you'll see my splits in the next couple of hours after a morning session. I think I may be back to work in a couple of weeks so I use this time off to race quite a bit. Usually only a morning and a midday session as not to abuse the time off.
It looks like you spend a lot of time on preparing these combos Sphinx so Thanks for your time amd hard work as steward and fellow racer.

Kenny, I'm not the Steward but I'm sure you run them one at a time. Steve has superimposed both cars for "effect" I suspect.

Stayed home form work on a sick day today (bad cold :indiff:), so I had an early run to this weeks race. Definitely like the drive in the Alfa more because I not a big fan of racing FF cars :)

Splits so far:
Alfa: 28.532 / 54.663
Mini: 28.372 / 54.956

As for the board, I personally think a format with an added total will give a clearer picture of the standings.

Ten laps each while waiting for breakfast. Sphinx ol' man, great combo but me thinks your playing with our heads.

Alpha: 28.603 - 55.493
Mini: 28.379 - 55.017

I suspect there's lots more out there for me to find considering I've only given them 10 laps each. Given the dynamics of each car, IMHO, this week should be decided by the slightest of margins. Looks like we'll be trading more paint before this is over.:scared:

Edit: Mini times reflect another 10 laps or so

Alfa

28.731
55.535

Mini

28.283
55.038

After maybe 3 laps each. I was ready to submit my times after the first lap after flying around Fuji in the 905. :irked:

Looks like we may be battling this one also esh..:) Saw you guys post so figured I would give some input. Go Ron go...!

Around 6-7 laps each. Will run more later.

Alfa
28.736
55.320

Mini
28.215
54.651

I found the Alfa hard to drive after the Mini. I'll go Alfa 1st for now on.

Kenny, I'm not the Steward but I'm sure you run them one at a time. Steve has superimposed both cars for "effect" I suspect.

Yes, we run them one at a time. :)

I was also going to superimpose the two cars into one image then thought it may cause confusion.

Alfa
28.736
55.320

Mini
28.215
54.651

I'm finding the Alfa much easier to handle than the Mini. Could be cause I've been starting with the Alfa or because the Mini is front-wheel drive, which I do not like. More times after 10 laps each:

ALFA

28.279
54.336

MINI

28.267
54.935

Doing something very wrong coming out of the first tunnel (in Mini) that pushes me almost to the wall so I have to cut back to find the line for the long left-hand sweeper.

I was going to post my test splits earlier but noticed that I forgot to save the Cooper replay, :dopey: :yuck: so I've just ran the Cooper again, and here are my current best splits:

Alfa:
27.882
53.735

Cooper:
28.000
54.185

Cool splits Jerry ;) I will defo race some more tonight now :p 👍

I was just looking at the pictures above and maybe i'm smoking too much funny stuff ... but I could swear the silhouette of the gingerbread man from shrek is driving the alfa :sly: haha :dopey:

I'm glad, my plan worked. I saw you browsing so I thought I would give you something to do tonight. ;)

Yep you're smoking way too much mate, it's his cousin.

So what I want to know is how much Ron paid you do this combo Jerry  Will get around to this one I'm sure and I am also sure my thumb will HURT with the slow cars and the long straight.

Jerome

After first session and a lot of laps:

Alfa:
28.378
54.779

Mini:
28.208
54.720

Great race. :D Two cars doubles the fun. 👍

First splits with the Mini:
27.914 (.818)
53.975

First impression: slooooooow and doesn't corner :sly: But now I got used to it.

I haven't tried the Alfa yet. Sounds like a week with close times, as always in Midfield.

No problems mates - DONE
Looks like we're into some heavy competition this week ...
And I even lured old friend Darren into joining us because he can never resist doing a Mini combo since there are a few of them wrecks sitting in his garage and he still thinks that one day he'll be driving one of them :)

EDIT 5 more laps in each car gave no improvement in the Mini but some in the Italian job: 29.173 - 55.705

My first (and most likely, last) splits:

Alfa:
28.147
53.967

Mini:
28.065
54.232

I can't get on with the Mini at all, and there is more time with the Alfa, but maybe not the interest for me.

Still, its a long time since i had splits up, so there you are Bigracer. 👍

I found ragging the Mini in 4th helped a lot, as it tops out at 114MPH, which is enough for two important points in the course. The Alfa meanwhile, seemed to prefer early shifting.
Interestingly, i get 111MPH on the start line with the Alfa, and only 1 extra @ 112MPH with the Mini.
The Italians knew what they were doing back in the 60's.

In terms of marketing/profit making, the Germans knew what they were doing in the 00's.

Good luck to all

:irked:👍

First splits (:O) from my first session with this combo:

Alfa:
T1: 28.212
T2: 54.445

Mini:
T1: 28.248
T2: 54.773

The cooper corners like a whale... you can't miss it's a FF car. The Alfa is the most fun to drive, but hardest to find the limit in. Good luck all!👍

First quick session:

alpha 28.184 / 54.568
mini 28.347 / 54.789

Lap times within .07 of each other, I'm pretty sure I'll end up faster in the sprint though.

I ran 2 laps with each last night and another 4 or 5 with each tonight.

We ran the Beetle Cup car with Sjaak in a 3 lapper not too far back, so I was able to get in the groove pretty quickly.

Alfa
28.399
54.826

Mini
28.383
54.983

I agree with the comments - Cooper is tough in the corners and the limit will be reached in short order. I like driving the Alfa better, so I will likely end up quicker in it one way or the other.

Fun combo. :dopey:

Kevin

Sweet racing. Funny to see that Jerry's test splits are the fastest so far ...

luxy

My ususal pre-breakfast run has produced slight improvement but nothing spectacular.

Alpha: 28.560 - 54.857
Mini: 28.148 - 54.474

the mini may be a bit quicker for me but the alpha is way more fun to drive. IMHO.:dopey:

More snow here today so driving time will be limited. I need to plow this morning.

Edit: the above times have been edited to reflect my latest times. I didn't want to confuse anyone by double posting behind CMir. I did make one observation and that is the Mini is about 2 mph faster at the line than the alpha for what that may be worth. IMHO it will come down to how well we all handle the left before the last tunnel eh?

I found ragging the Mini in 4th helped a lot, as it tops out at 114MPH, which is enough for two important points in the course.

If 4th gear is enough for you at the T1 straight, then you're having a bad exit at the S. I have to shift to 5th gear, otherwise I hit the limiter. You're going flat-out through the S, right? At first I lifted a bit, but then I realised it was not necessary. A good exit on this corner is very important 👍, though not much time is gained due to having to shift.

Unless you weren't meaning this straight?

After T2, I agree, 4h gear is enough. I lift at the slight right, how about you guys? It gives a better line into the last corner, I think.

Sweet racing. Funny to see that Jerry's test splits are the fastest so far ...

Well I'm currently faster but I only ran the Mini so far... So no time to rest there, Jerry :sly: :dopey: I'll try the Alfa soon so that my times aren't "hidden" from the leaderboard.
