GT4P and Driving Force problem

Hi,

I've had a bit of a search around and can't find anyone describing this problem.

It is most pronounced on Fuji with the McLaren F1 and going down the long straight, the problem being that the wheel goes left and right very quickly and is VERY hard to hold. It is all to do with the force feedback in the wheel. The osscolation (sp??) goes away if I slowly move the wheel left and right but obviously this isn't the fastest way down a straight with the car weaving backwards and forwards. My arms get tired after about 3 laps of trying to hold it straight and is probably the reason why I haven't finished that licence test yet!! Using other cars at other tracks also brings the problem up but no where near as obvious as above.

I have just tried it in GT3 and the problem didn't show up with the 787B at Grand Valley (The closest to the Mc F1 at Fuji I could think of in terms of speed etc) and definitely doesn't show up in any PC game (LFS, GTR, F1C etc etc).

So does anybody else have the problem?? Could it be the wheel is faulty? Could it be that it is only Prologue and not to worry or weather I should take it back to where I got it and see if I can swap it (still with in 12 month warranty).

Thanks guys

Kev

Having bought today GT4 :P and having played it with my Wingman FF (which is basically the same as the Driving Force), I can tell you that it is not your wheel that is faulty. The same happens to me.

It's just the game trying to replicate real life forces on the wheel.

Also I remember reading elsewhere about this "problem".

Worry not.

When I purchased GT4P I was using the blue Logitech wheel, and the force feedback in the racing cars down the straight of Fuji was too violent. It was almost impossible to hold the wheel.

Then I switched to the new Driving Force Pro, and that problem dissapeared completely. You still get the vibration effect on the screen, specially on the dials, which seem to blur at high speeds, but the new wheel works fine.

I guess this situation might be related to GT4P being optimized for the new wheel´s increased force feedback characteristics, right?

I wonder if the FF code will be the same in GT4, if thats the case I'd much prefer not to use this wheel....I wonder if I could take it back to K-Mart and upgrade it to the DFP?? :) mmmm tempting!!

don't forget the settings in the options menu that allow you to adjust the strength of the force feedback. On strong, I also have trouble managing the F1 on the Fuji straight.

Sorry for this maybe stupid question...But is the 900 degree wheel you're talking about thé 900 degree wheel, or is there another one coming up? Because I wanted to get the wheel but I haven't heard anything about the release. I just heard there was going to be an amazingly accurate 900 degree wheel..

Even using the Pro wheel, you get this problem if you switch to 180 mode in Prologue.

With the blue (old) df wheel you can only choose between beginner, pro or simulation but I didn't fell much difference between the last two (haven't tried beginner yet).

Worse than the jumps though is how easy it is to lock! If you touch the grass you're in big trouble and in the chicanes(?) you really have to hold on to the wheel and be carefull with countersteering otherwise you spin out.

It's a much easier game with the ds2 but not half the fun. I also think cars tend to understeer more with the pad - but maybe it's just my sore tumbs!
