yep, as the title implies, I just got it.

was online checking out the new mechanical damage, started the race on Green Hell, was in 1st place, hit a patch of grass with my rear, slid out, got back on, now 3rd place, drove about 1/2 a mile and BOOM!

RLOD! ahhhhhh!!!! noooooOOOOOOOOO :ouch:

been searching online for maybe a quick fix so I can play until I can take it in for repairs tonight.

I've been reading about the HDD removal/reinsert fix.

does anyone know if this is legit?

damn, this sux. I have the launch 60gb and been reading about all the YLOD and have been a bit scared about it... my worse fears realized. argh! :(

You mean YLOD?

no, Red Light Of Death.

it turns on for a second, blinks red, 3 beeps, and then turns off.

:(

my launch 60gb has been a champ the past 3+ years... almost made 4.

I knew it had to happen sometime but dang it, GT academy... just signed up and was looking forward to it.

How long has GT5 been released on xbox?

And bad luck, I had one go about a year ago.

LOL!

I just realized YLOD and RLOD is same thing. hey, it's my first time. :O

didn't realize they called it YLOD because of the yellow light that comes on for a split second.
I kept thinking the unit actually flashes yellow. doh!

anyway, yeah, YLOD. dang it.

I can't even get my GT5 disc out.

luckily a guy at my work does this repair on the side. guess I'll be taking it in.

just wished I could play even for a little bit tonight as the new mechanical damage got patched up.

:mad::irked:

Take the PS3 apart and use the heatgun on the CPU and GPU. 95% chance a cold solder joint caused your YLOD.

Follow these videos, starting with this one:

thanks man. funny I actually found that vid a few minutes before you posted.

was in the middle of watching it.

wish there was an easier solution rather then taking the whole thing apart.

guess it will be a interesting little side project later on.

for now I think I'll just take my PS3 in to the guy since he knows what he's doing.

I'm definitely taking notes and going to stock up on some thermo paste and a heat gun. got all the screw drivers! :dopey:

anyway, thanks again. 👍

guess I'm dusting off my old PS2 and firing up some GT4 action.

i did the heatgun fix on a m8's ps3 the other day, 1st time it failed, 2nd time i made the two cpu's glow and couldnt touch the board for about an 30 minutes, put it back together and all working! :s

He is going to trade it in for store credit and buy a slim

That's exactly what I did. Traded it in for a slim. They actually gave me a pretty good amount of money for the old 60 GB unit.

It's not RROD or YLOD. It can't be YLOD if it isn't yellow..
It's simply bricked.

yeah, what I meant to type was RLOD, not RROD. :dunce:

was a bit preoccupied by the unit dying so I wasn't paying attention. was typing so fast.

it was blinking red so I thought Red Light Of Death was what I had.

feel so stupid now, didn't even realize RLOD and YLOD are the same thing!

I'm all red in the face out of embarrassment. :O
