GT5 broke my friends PS3?

I received two free copies of GT5 from Sony and decided to give one to my friend. I previously showed him my copy of GT5 on his PS3 which worked fine but I couldn't show him the full experience with my playseat and G27. A few days ago I brought over my playseat and G27 along with his copy of GT5. I started up a race at La Sarthe and at the end of the 1st lap the scenery disappeared, then the track disappeared and all that was left was the racing line and the car. I restarted it but it kept failing to load at random screens(tried to pick a track and car to race but they would not appear). I took the game out and put it back in but the PS3 would either not be able to read the bluray disc or not even show up in the menu at all. Then put in a bluray movie and same thing. Now my friends PS3 is broken and I'm wondering whether it was the PS3's time or if GT5 is a console killer.
 
Wow that sucks. how did you get two free copies? What Ps 3 was it?
 
It would probably have broken whatever game you might have put-in, guess it's time was up :(
 
One of my brothers mates was waiting for GT5 for so long (like we all were) and his PS3 broke the day GT5 was released haha
 
You must claim vendetta against GT5 now...
 
The BD reader fried, it will play anythong in the HD, but won't play BD or movies anymore
My old one broke like this twice, one playing MGS4, the other one playing Madden 09. Then, it YLOD after COD4 :nervous:

My new one is perfect even after one year of use

So, just replace the BD reader and you will be fine ^^
 
PS3s do break, even new ones. It is extremely unlikely that it has anything to do with the disc, however. It is tempting to blame the game that was in the machine at the time, but it is almost certainly not the cause. My PS3 died while I was playing FF13 just a week before GT5 came out (R.I.PS3 :( ), after having patiently waited for over three years... poor thing never got to fulfill it's lifetime ambition. But, just as I suspect that Domino's pizza wasn't to blame for the tooth that fell out while I was eating it, I guess FF13 didn't kill my PS3, and I guess that GT5 didn't kill your mate's PS3 either.
 
Luckily my 60gig yellow lighted 2 years ago when socom came out. Fixed it once and it yellow lighted a month later. The 80 gig's, that I bought for my brother, blu ray went out last year while borrowing it and playing gtp.

So now I have an almost out of warranty 250 gig lol. If that goes out, I'm selling the 80 gig for money to get my 60 fixed by sony (its the best ps3 besides wattage used) and then I will put the 250's hard drive inthe 60 lol. Hopefully this doesn't happen until the snow melts.

And no, I'm not a xbox fanboy, I'm actually a soft spoken ps fanboy :} . Just bad luck with 1 ps1 2ps2's and 2ps3's... I might of played to much gt, socom and ff.
 
ok did you get yellow light of death / doom...If not all is not lost, just some of it. Crashing GT corrupted my file sytem...I got back the PS3 but lost all my saves because I couldnt back up....Try to back up first....Then try turning on the system and holding the power till you get 3 beeps for restore mode...If that dont work go to System options PS3 restore...This will wipe your M8s drive and lose all the saved games but its better than paying for a fix... I had a custom sound track when mine crashed....Did your M8....Ive seen quite a few saying that the custom sound track causes problems.....Let me know!
 
Sorry for not responding. The holidays have been very busy for me. I received two free copies because of a GT5 event that was held in San Francisco called Race Through the Bay. They sent me two free copies for participating.
 
Luckily the PS3 did not get he yellow light. I think there's something wrong with the laser. We will try a blu ray disc cleaner and if that doesn't work I'll have to replace the laser. What really sucked was his 50" Samsung stopped working two days after the PS3 died(just a really strange coincidence) but we were able to fix it by taking it apart and replacing a part in the TV. Hopefully the PS3 will be as easy to fix.

EDIT: I have tried the procedure where you hold down the power button on the playstation and it takes you to a screen with five options. I picked the 3rd option(forgot what its called but its the one that would repair the drive) to repair it but it did not work. Will try a full restore of the system tonight.

The laser died on my 1st generation 60GB model. It was out of warranty (but only just). Sony were good enough to replace it though free of charge.
It could play DVD's but not BD's.
 
Every major launch get these "________ fried my PS3" complaints. Its just that so many people buy these games, there is a chance someone's PS3 happens to die when they play this game. Plus the game does push limits, so maybe it is GT5.
 
my PS3 just got broken, i was playing gt5 during the Christmas eve while it suddenly skipped and freeze then it restarts, now my gt5 disc got stuck-up and wont come out, probably it got BDL the 2nd time, also it wont play my download game demos though it play my movies and mp3s, luckily i still got warranty from the shop where the lens was repaired. btw my ps3 was a 40gb phat type.

It was the PS3. Plus, I don´t think that GT5 pushes the console to its limits like MGS4 or GTA4. Proof of it its that GTA4 and MGS4 always make my Fat 40G PS3 go into "vaccum cleaner mode" after a few minutes. GT5 only did it twice after three hours of playing. Plus, GT5 has never got frozen on me, or done any glitchy thing or anything. Games like NFS Undercover, NFS Shift, and even good Sony games like Ratchet and Clank have made my PS3 freeze.
