So I've been playing the Gt series forever, only ever having owned playstations, but after all the hype surrounding Forza I thought I'd buy a second hand xbox and see what all the fuss was about. I got the fanatic csr and sold my g25 and was expecting great things, I imagined forza to be pretty much the same as Gt only tighter, slicker and more community focused.
So after playing it for just under a month I have to say I don't think it's anything like Gt! There's no endurance racing (in the whole event list you dont race more than ten laps in one race and you dont have to pit once in your whole career!) ,no day/night cycle, no dynamic weather, no open wheel racing, no race series or championships with leaderboards and there's no rally.
What it has got though is an incredibly slck interface and menu's aswell as awesome online integration with leaderboards for practically everything you do. Rivals is also very addictive! But I feel this game is aimed very much at the casual gamer, it practically throws money and cars at you and makes coming back to grind credits on Gt5 even more laborious!
So, here's the thing, after reading all the reviews and all the fanboys baiting each other I thought that playing forza would make forget all about Gt5 but it's actually made me appreciate it more. After knocking off a few events and doing a few rivals on fm4 it leaves me wanting something abit more substantial and that's why I've started playing Gt5 again , doing all the endurance races and trying to gold all the specials.
So instead of these games being direct rivals i actually think they compliment each other really well!
