GT5 Freezing in race $%&!

I bought a PS3 in February for the single purpose of playing GT5. Things seemed to be fine for awhile, but I've started having random screen freezes during races (often, but not always online). The screen will freeze for about 2 seconds then the video will reset and all is fine for awhile.

I've searched for this problem and have found solutions that don't seem to apply or help the issue:

I don't have custom music

I've tried disconnecting from the internet

I've tried lowering the resolution to 720p from 1080i

I've disabled notifications

I've cleared the cache and reinstalled the pre-load data

I've checked my disc for scratches, etc.

Anyone else having similar issues? Do I just have a bad PS?

Do you have the same issues with other games? If the answer is yes, then the PS3 is probably causing the problem... Is it a new PS3 slim or a second hand system? FAT or Slim? Also a little tip, (might not be related to your issue though) do you have the media server setting on or off? Try turning it off. That helped me to sign in the PSN when I had problems getting online (I know the PSN is offline at the moment). But as I said that is not necessarily helpful, just a tip. If you only have the problems with GT5 then I don't really know what could be the problem, maybe someone else had the same issues?

Well - good news / bad news. It's not my PS3 or GT5 that is causing the freezing. I was stunned to note that while watching a movie on the same TV I had the same freezing issue! I was watching the movie through my cable provider, so the PS was not involved at all. I didn't know that the TV could produce such an error (frozen screen).

At least I have a new OCZ SSD in the PS.....

Yea newer HDTV's have mini processprs in them to process HD content, and various HD features, could be a bad processor. Alot of LG TV's are having an issue with this at the moment that were rushed to consumers. They make some good ones, but the usual "BetBuy special" or the ones you get really cheap have been known for some issues. Check to see if your manufacture has a firmware upgrade for your model and talk to support before applying it. This will give them reason to maybe setup an RMA in case the firmware doesn't fix the issue.

glad you popped for an SSD...did the same and even though its not amazingly beneficial it still helps.
