I have never played GT5 since I prefer Forza 4 over GT5 due to reasons I will not get into on this post. A track editor is not enough for me to buy GT5 but I might buy GT6. I am curious though, are you able to host a lobby with a custom track and the people in the lobby will download it before the game starts? Or do they actually have to go find the map and download it?

I didn't think GT5 had a track editor, I see it is called "course maker", one of GT6 new features was a track editor, I don't know what the difference is.

You simply click on your track in the track selection, and then it loads for everyone in the room automatically. And unlike Forza, you can drive around, do laps, and learn it without going starting the race first.

Yes you are able to host a lobby with a custom track you created and it'll be the same for everyone, they don't have to go through any bother, it'll download automatically.

As for the difference between track editor and course maker, it's hard to speculate what GT6 will be like but in GT5 the course maker is quite limited. You can define certain characteristics of the track, but you can't draw the corners exactly how you want them. It still produces unique tracks and experiences though.

It is for me, plus all the cars and tracks (which have varying surfaces even with the Course Maker.)

I never use custom tracks in Online Mode (when I have a choice). The best races i've had is when everyone knows the track well. With custom tracks there are always a few players who has no clue what comes around the next corner.
