I was thinking and i thought if Gran Turismo is a 'Driving Simulator' then it should have a helmet cam (a bit like Need For Speed Shift 2). I think that this idea could be thought about for Gran Tursimo 6 (whenever it come out!!!). I was just wondering what you guys would think about this idea? :)

That would be pretty much the same thing as the cockpit shake we had (removed through an update), and no one wanted it and really just wanted it gone. Which is why we don't have it anymore.

I really didn't like it in Shift myself ... but more options never hurt.
I would like to be able to freely position the camera height and forward/backward distance in the cockpit. Some feel too close to me even on wide settings.

I wasn't that impressed with it in Shift 2 to be honest so I really couldn't care less, on the other hand any new features introduced to the series won't do any harm if done properly so why not?

It's still there, just less "shaky". I still don't like it though.

That's a good idea cos all racing sims have that option and it defiantly makes cockpit cam a lot better

I wouldn't want the camera to shake any more than it does now. Although I would like the cockpit cam to look towards a corner. Slightly left or right when approaching a corner on level ground and up or down depending on elevation changes.

Funnily enough I was going to post something similar. I picked the game up recently so here are a few thoughts.

I like the helmet cam in Shift 2. It is a bit over the top as it exaggerates the head moving forward and backwards but in principal it has the potential to be brilliant which at times in Shift 2 it is (IMHO) see here . I would like to see it in Gran Turismo 5, particularly the slight turning of the view/head left and right to look at corner apexes. Might also help GT5 to convey the sense of speed (especially at lower speeds).

Driving a modest 80 miles an hour down the final straight at Spa in Shift 2 felt fairly fast but doing it in GT5 last night (other than in bumper cam) felt like I was going around 20 miles an hour. This makes judging the right speed for lower speed corners more difficult than it should be. The low speed feel to GT5 is a seperate issue of course but it does need looking at.

Shift 2 isn't perfect and does require a fair bit of tweeking to get steering setting right but once done I think does a very good job. I think it has been tagged with an unfair arcadeyness by association with the other Need For Speed titles many of which are hideous. If PD could learn from Shift 2 feature set I think we'd have an almost perfect game.

Menu design - quick to load and easy to navigate while they tend to look better.

Drag Racing is pretty well implemented with at least 3 strips - the auto clutch on/off option even on a DS3 controller brings more skill into accelerating and changing gear.

Great circuits and their selection options.

The "livery editor" is well designed. You can get very involved adding detailed graphics to the car but it's easy to get good basic results quickly.

The online friends comparison system is really well designed and fun to use.

Technically GT5 wins hands down but it could do worse than look at some elements of Shifts approach to game design.

Actually some people did want it so why can't it be an option rather than either in or out. Having said that despite it's faults I found the Shift 2 helmet cam to have a more realistic feel to it than the GT5 camera shake.

The main advantage in principle is that the view looks mostly where your head would naturally when driving. This also works better than the face tracking GT5 has in arcade mode as it is not prone to head tracking lag and inaccuracies.

Kind of related; I really like Enthusia's bumper camera it had a tinted frame around the edge of the view representing the car and it would move around (I've explained this awfully but can't find any videos), it really gave a good impression of inertia and body movement.

I still think Enthusia is probably one of the most realistic console racers out there and if you haven't played it and own a PS2 you should definitely give it a go (you can probably get a mint copy for under a tenner)

Edit:

I also loved the way Enthusia gave out prize xp/money where it'd give you odds of winning at the beginning and gave you an amount according to that, so you could enter a slow car into a race and gain a fair amount of points without winning.

God, I hated the helmet cam in NFS Shift. It was hugely disorienting, because it felt as though your car was turning when your driver looked into the corners.
