Right, so, over time my GT5 game has gotten slower and slower, now it's pathetic, taking a good 3-4 minutes to actually get onto the game and the menu's are slow as hell, it's not my internet(although that ain't the greatest anyway) but I need a solution for this, is there any way to make my GT5 faster?

If you listen to your own music (BGM) get rid of it, in my experience it slows the game down and even freezed mine on several occasions.

Also; when you're logged into PSN, loading times are considerably longer, so if you're not planning on going online when playing GT5 - just turn it off - it helps.

Oh, and is your disc clean? Be sure to check that too.

The most common reason is logged in to PSN though, I believe.

I was having this very problem a few days ago. Cleaned my disc and opened up my PS3 and cleaned the Blu-ray lens with alcohol. Instant fix. If you smoke around your PS3, cleaning your lens inside is a must. There are two, Blu-ray and DVD. I almost guarantee you this will fix your problem.

I must admit over time my game has slowed down and the other day I got this message when I turned on.:ouch:

Turned it off straight away.
Did a google search and after some investigating some said the Hard drive may of been knocked. (Meaning it had come lose?)
So on the underside of the PS3 is a little plate you click open and undo one screw and it allows you to pop out the drive.?
So with my PS3 no longer under warranty I had nothing much to loss.
So on doing this the amount of muck what came out was unbelivable, So I continued to clean all the vents on my system.:D
Since then my system is running quite happily now and its a lot more quiet than what it was running at.
So if its been quite noisey recently, Then I recommend a good clean for sure.👍
I will also point out that before any of this happened to me when I used to eject the disc it was very warm.
Now when I eject the disc even after its been on for a long time its cold in comparision.
Chat soon bye for now.:)

EDIT: Will also say by doing a very good clean the game is loading how it used to be.
And thats with quite a big save file.:D

Thanks guys, I've had to clean out my wheel a couple of times for sticky brakes so I'll do this. And, there's only been people smoking in that room about 5 times since it was put there, as I don't smoke.

You need to clear the cache..

👍👍

GT5 is ridiculously reliant on a connection to PD even when just moving from one menu screen to another. A bad connection to their servers can mean having the game "hang" for several minutes when doing something as mundane as exiting the GT Auto section.

If you find this helps your situation, then it may well be your connection at fault. I tend to get this every now and then, despite a 20mb connection and hardwired to router, so I usually just reset my modem and router and it generally fixes it for a while.

I just counted and the game boots up ~30 seconds faster without a connection for me. (starting from XMB, when I press X to start the game, up to the moment the animation on the main screen appears)

With net:1 minute 15 seconds
Without net: 49 seconds

But if you're not connected it keeps bugging you to connect. I hope loading times will be greatly reduced between menus and booting up in GT6.

After reading this thread i tried playing while disconnected to PSN and the difference was very noticeable, the menus move much faster.

It's a shame the menus are so sluggish in GT5, you spend so much time moving from one screen to another. I liked it back in GT2 i think it was, you could jump directly to your garage from virtually any screen in the game.

This sounds to me like a pretty straightforward case of needing to clear your cache.

Go to the options menu. Scroll all the way to the bottom, and the option is in "Network."

Cheers for that. Will get on it when my misses gets up.

Up to 3x faster on GT5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yessssssssss!!!!!!!!!! Finally!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxJ5SSGqBdM&fb_source=message

SSD v. HDD in PS3 for Gran Turismo 5 - A Comprehensive Look

"The problem with the HDD Disk is that the more rpm it has the warmer they get. And there is not much cooling space in your PS3.

But it is faster than what is originally in the PS3 mainly due to the increased RPM but also better acces time to your data with the new HD of your's.

But the leader will be the SSD Disk." Since SSDs have no moving parts, they run cool. High RPM HDDs run hotter than SSDs.

That is why I haven't played GT5 in over 5 months! Got tired of the lag. Perhaps I'll play again if I get a SSD. It is too slow with the standard HDD.

The menu loading lag described in this thread has little to do with HDD speed. Installing an SSD or 7200RPM drive will speed up load times notably, but that's moot for moving between menus when your PS3 has issues connecting to the Sony servers and you are signed in.

Well you're wrong, as that gets cleared quite often for racing series and stuff like that, hence why I said it had nothing to do with my internet.

Try this posted by GTPorsche, a few people tryed it including me and it worked.

His post is at the bottom of the link and a few comments from people after it.

If anyone has had issues with loading times being slow, the "Rebuild Database" option in the PS3 Safe Mode menu is a useful tool. I did that last week to fix some issues with BF3 I was having and now GT5 is loading tracks in about 10 seconds for me.

This is the guide I used.
