I've been playing a lot of dirt 3 lately, mostly online. But the other day after looking at the photomode forums I decided to give GT5 another go, and after realising that I could earn huge $$ quickly with the seasonal events I was hooked again.

Anyway when I play GT5 and I think it happened with prologue as well I start to get blood shot eyes and they kind of hurt. It only happens with GT5 it never happens with Dirt 3 or any other game I play. And it happens on both a 32" and a 42" tv...

Does anyone else get this or just me?

Maybe you've been playing for extended periods of time causing your eyes to strain.

Blink man, blink.

Blink man, blink.
HAHA...that is what I was going to say. The graphics are pretty sharp and bright so it does take a toll. Happens to me all the time.

 Yea I know its because I play far too much but it doesnt happen with other games.

Must be because GT5 is much higher quality and my eyes aren't HD capable....

I have to wear my glasses or I get headaches 5min into playing. I dont usually wear them because it makes your eyes lazy in turn making them worse quicker.

My 3 best advices are:

1. Regular breaks (maybe open a window), use an alarm on your phone if its hard to keep track of time.

2. Have a lightsource behind your television (do not have the tv as the only focus point for your eyes).

3. Rememer to drink (water) frequently.

Here are other peoples advices:

Btw, it's common knowledge that if you spend too much time in virtual reality, it's hurting more than your eyes. Just sayin'.........

It's like with everything else in life, use with care.

I remember I used to use clear eyes to get rid of it so I don't look stoned

I hope iracing is easier on the eyes, hopefully starting my career soon

When playing Tekken for too long a time (on the PS1) i had red eyes too. I think because of the lack of blinking. Too focussed perhaps.

Weak sunglasses might work.

Trust me...its from focusing too much. Bad graphics are worse on your eyes then sharp, piercing graphics lol. I play a lot of GT1, GT2, and Racer Racer too. Cant do it for too long...hr max.

First page of a random games book, translated into english:

WATCH FOR YOUR HEALTH

Always play in a good lighted room. Pause each hour of playing for 15 minutes of pausing (altrough i never did that and only had a problem with it once) Stop playing when dezziness, nausea, fatigue or a headache occurs. People who are sensitive for flashing or flickering lights or geometric shapes and patterns can without knowing suffer from a epileptic disorder. They can, while watching TV or playing videogames, get a epileptic seizure. Go and see a doctor before playing a videogame if you have epileptic disorders or when, while playing, things occur like changes in your vision, convulsions or other involuntary movements, impairment of consciousness, and/or confusion.

In other words, you may be epileptic or your room/strategy of pausing isn't good.

No,I haven't
GT5 is more comfortable than PC game rFactor.Of couser Dirt3 is OK
When I play RF a long, all things in my eyes is like a mosaics

You might have to decrease the brightness of your screen. High brightness is the main source of eyestrain.

I was actually going to suggest reducing "EV" in the game, I know mine used to hurt until I turned it down.

Blinking always helps too. :p

The EV setting in-game has little to do with actual screen brightness, although it reduces apparent brightness as a side-effect, if you decrease it. That setting works exactly like the camera Exposure Value (EV) in Photo Mode, changing the way the "virtual camera" captures light in-game.

What I'm suggesting to do, instead, is to lower the TV/Display's backlight setting. That will physically and linearly decrease screen brightness.

I'm aware, a prime reason I didn't say "I was going to say that" because at least on my TV, the EV setting in game has an extreme effect, possibly more so than brightness (on my tv), and I've found better picture quality with EV at 0.0 and the TV adjusted properly then the other way round. (without hurting my eyes of course.)

Either way should ease the eye strain, just I've found my way works better on my tv, so maybe it does for others, idk.

Don't forget blinking.

Well I'm going to try this... I definitely suffer from tried/sore eye's. Even after only a short amount of game time. Possibly even forget to blink lol so good tips all round 👍

Make sure there's enough ambient light in the room.

This.

And a soft screen config. (bright, contrast, etc)

Distance between your eyes and the screen is important too.

The further away from the screen you are increases the strain, but if your too close its bad as well.

When I first got into prologue hardout I was quite far away from a 32" and that was pretty harsh on my eyes.

My LCD HDTV settings were at vivid.......now changed to Game.....Big difference on the eye's!👍

I've managed to make myself play games for extended periods without having to blink, thanks to countless hours of staring at Guitar Hero and Rock Band charts. If your having these symptoms, jsut take a break for a minute, doesn't need to be really long.

I see you already found a solution, but maybe you could also try playing the game in 720p, instead of 1080p. ;) (Dirt 3 is also 720p)

You should try a 3DS then. That DOES hurt your eyes.

Why would anyone who does not want to hurt they eyes do that???

Colour and brightness settings on the TV.

Went over to my friends house and he had the colour up so high it would burn your eyes out in 20 seconds flat.
Also make sure your sitting the correct distance away from the TV. This is dependant on the size of your TV. The manual for my 60" states a 2.5 metre minimum safe distance. Any closer you lose definition, to far away you have to strain your eyes to read text and see fine detail.
