KNUCKL3_ROCKER
hello GT5 fans, i need help with installing GT5 to my ps3, i recently did a FULL FORMAT on the computer so obviously i had to re-install everything, i came to re-install GT5 and as i went to start the game on the XMB menu it brought up a message say (this game cannot start untill it is installed on the hard disc, to install it to the hard disc you must create a game partition of 192mb, would you like to start installing) so i clicked yes, then it said (error acured during installation 8001002B) can somebody help me PLEASE, untill i know and figure out a game partition i carnt play GT5, but everything else has installed apart from GT5

Try to run the game without your savefile. Either backup your save and delete the one on your PS3 or start the game on a different account without any save. Then install all the patches and try your save again.

i have no backup files at all, when you do a full format it wipes everything off your ps3 so basically its clean, but it wrnt let me on gt5 untill i create a game partition n i dnt no how 2 do it

So you started new from scratch without any GT5 file on your PS3? I know that a full format wipes everything off your PS3 but usually people backup at least their savefiles before they do a full format. Well, you should do a savefile backup from time to time anyway even if you don't plan a full format. Just make sure that there are no GT5 files in your game data or save data utility folders before you try the installation.

i have made sure there is saved data of gt5 on my ps3, still when go to start the game it still says that basically i need 2 create a game partition b4 the game will install to my hard disc

i recently did a FULL FORMAT on the computer

Are you saying that you formatted the disk when it was still in the PS3, or you took it out of the PS3 and formatted it when connected to a desktop/laptop PC....?

If you did the latter, did you format the disk in the correct format, ie- FAT32?

I was thinking the same thing but he said that he could install all the other games. I would just format it again with the PS3 and then try if it works

yes the hard disc drive was still in the ps3 when i did the full format, i didnt do a quick format i did full format but since i done the format i have install all of my games and bbc iplayer itv player netflix n love film, but i can NOT install Gran turismo 5 because i need 2 create a game partition of 192mb and i dnt no how 2 do it, i have looked on the net and it says go to system settings on the XMB screen scroll dwn to format ulitility and there shud be 2 choices format hard disc drive or custom, select custom and proceed frm there, but ps3 doesnt give u that choice nomore so i crnt create a game partition that way so there must b another way of creating a game partition so i install gt5 n play god damn thing,,, all i want to no is HOW DO I CREATE A GAME PARTITON

I have no idea what it means when it asks you to create a "game partition." That sort of thing is entirely handled behind the scenes on the PS3.

The only thing I think it could be is a lack of hard drive space. But again, that's handled by the PS3; you don't manually create any partitions. I'm pretty sure that no matter what is on a hard drive or how it's formatted, doing a full format will overwrite anything on the drive and use the full capacity for the PS3. But just in case, if you don't mind starting over again: you could try removing the hard drive, connecting it to a computer, and deleting any partitions that may be on it (Windows might show the whole thing as unallocated space since it can't read it).

One possibility years ago would have been if you had installed Linux and only left the PS3 stuff 10GB of space, but they removed that capability a long time ago. I think that's what you were referring to with the custom option.

A search for your error code (error occurred during installation 8001002B) points to a dirty disc. Carefully clean it and try again. I would probably delete any GT5 game and game save data prior to installing. As usual make sure you back up and save data that you may need before deleting.

P.S. Posting in text speak and without punctuation is not permitted. Double posting is also not cool. You can edit your posts to add more information. Using all caps to type is considered shouting in a forum. It's not good to shout at people volunteering their time to help.

thanks 4 the advice on the game partition i will try cleaning the disc "carefully" and try it again, and i will get back to this post as quickly as possible

i cleaned my disc very carefully and it very clean not a single scratch on the disc, i put it in my computer so i clicked on the game and it is still saying the same thing "you create a game partition of 192mb would you like to install now" you click yes and it says error occured during installation 8001002B, i carnt even get no answers from eu.playstation.com about this matter, my ps3 friends say come join my drag lobby or come join my drift lobby and i crnt because of this stupid game partition its frustrating

i formatted because of ps3 crashing freezing skipping when loading, so i thought if i did a full format insted of a quick format it would fix whatever problem my ps3 had, doin the full format did fix my ps3 problem but it wrnt let me install GT5 because i need create a game partition, i have just checked the internet again and it said basically go to PS store go to the search bar and type in PS2 system data and download it and install it once its done your HDD will be the defided in to 2parts 1part for PS2 and the other part for ps3 and thats your game partition , but when i checked on PS store the PS2 system data isnt there, so why the hell are ppl putting fake solution on the net for, i would really like 2 create a game partition so i can play GT5 again, or do i have 2 buy a new or pre-owned ps3 from a shop, sony should have some solution for this matter but i crnt find the solution :(

A new/used one would solve your issues. Seems like you already have the answers you seek. Too bad, but it sounds like it was already dying.

shouldn't need 2 buy a new or used ps3 because a game wants a partition, thats like buying a car that needs a clutch u aint going to through the car away r u, so y should i have 2 through my ps3 away because of a game partition

If that were true, the game wouldn't ask for it. I also don't hook up my car clutch to a motorcycle and expect it to work. Frankly, we're all a bit baffled by your choice to use a PC.

Replacement is your best option, as the "repair" option clearly isn't working.

Do you have to like it? No.

2 thoughts for ya TC...

Thought 1. After doing the full format, did you do a system restore? Could be that something in the operating system that wasn't supposed to be was affected in the format.

Thought 2. From your description of how your PS3 was running beforehand, it sounds like your bluray laser is about to die or the lens is dirty and/or cracked.

Right before my old Phatty died it was doing the same types of things, and I was able to keep it running for a few weeks by constantly restoring the system. In the end, though, it was the bluray drive for me so I just went and got a new slim. Good luck.

That bit about there being separate PS2 and PS3 data is probably referring to how you have a section for PS3 game saves and another section for virtual PS2/PS1 memory cards. Those are just the save files, as in, the progress in the game. Or, it could be referring to some sort of hacked console with dumped games.

Again, there is no "game partition" that you configure. The PS3 handles all of this itself. Try formatting the drive in the PS3 and try to install the game again. Although, it sounds like the hard drive and/or the BD drive has problems. Maybe it can't create the partition because the hard drive is bad?

You could try scanning the drive for bad sectors in a PC.

They removed the PS2 system data utility from the store a while ago, it did exist though, I have it one mine. This isn't something you need to fix your problem though.

This is a weird problem because the PS3 handles all partitioning and file placement.

Have you ever tried re-formatting it, again? Its worth a shot. Also, was your system ever modified/hacked? That plays a huge role as Sony will cripple your system if one of their updates find it.

In order to correctly(and manually) create a partition on the PS3 harddisk, you'd need an external USB sata 2.5 HDD reader. Something like this. Then you would need a program, like EaseUs, to manually set up a partition on the harddisk for the game to write the installation data to.

Unfortunately, you need to know what format each partition needs to be, which I don't think Sony would tell you. Since some game data exceeds 4GB, it may be NFTS or FAT, not FAT32, but its impossible to say. Unless someone reads their correctly working PS3 HDD in the reader, and would therefore corrupt it and have to re-format it, you won't know.

Either way, for the price of the docking station/reader, you can buy a new and bigger HDD(320GB or 500GB) and try that instead. It could be possible that your older HDD has developed issues with writing to the disc. The 190MB file size also seems like an issue, since the installation data for GT5 is far larger than that. It sounds like GT5 is trying to install an UPDATE and cannot do so because the HDD is formatted incorrectly.

Just sharing some ideas & info, hope some of this helped.

I really don't get it.

When I swapped my 80GB HDD for a 500GB HDD, all I did was put the new one into the PS3 after taking the old one out. PS3 does all the formatting necessary.

Which it should do, as with my upgrade to 500GB HDD, but I also had to manually install the current update before it would format it.

If his HDD is damaged or the disc cannot be written to properly, it won't create proper partitions and cause issues - like he's experiencing now. Or maybe it's something else, but it's a theory. Until the OP tries a different HDD, he won't know for sure. Some HDDs just fail after a certain amount of writes or years of function. Did he ever say if it's the original PS3 HDD or an aftermarket one?

I had this same issue today. Here is what happened. **I stay signed out of the PSN and I made sure Wi-Fi was off on my modem (you still get prompted for updates if your Wi-Fi is on but you're not signed in on PSN)

1. Deleted Game Data File
2. Copied Game save to USB
3. Deleted the Game save file on the PS3 (my USB was still pluigged in though)
4. Restarted my PS3
5. Loaded up GT5
6. It propmpts you that "This game will access the HDD. Don't turn off whilst HDD light is flashing"
7. Click "Ok"
8. Enjoy black screen. No logo, no lights flashing.

I don't know why it wouldn't just install the game data. I proceeded to turn on Wi-Fi and sign in. 18 updates and 2 hours later the updates were installed. Only then did it install the game data.

I have lost my replays and images too but I couldn't give a rats but still, I'm curious as to why this happened?

Only reason I went to all this trouble is that my GT5 game was running more sluggish than normal (even when offline).
