GT5 is freezing on me.

Ok here is the story until now.

Got GT5 at launch.
Played the heck out of it for about a month.
Got to level 24.
Then while grinding the American car race in extreme on a circle track the game freezes.
Quit reload. Freeze.
Now the game freezes about 5 seconds into any race.
Started a new game.
a couple weeks go by.
I was fine until level 21.
The game froze on the Like the Wind race on the circle track.
Now it freezes about 15 seconds into any race.

What do I do? Is it my PS3?
Its a Launch 60 gig. I can play any game just fine except for GT5.
 
I believe using a Custom soundtrack can cause the game to freeze. Are you using one?
 
Have you tried other resource hog games? Could be hard disk issue...

But it could possibly be just the custom soundtrack.
 
I am using a custom soundtrack with about 700 songs in it... I will try disabling it and see what happens.

EDIT: I think its working. I feel SOO stupid for not trying this! I guess I was too attached to my custom soundtrack and didn't want to believe that it was the culprit.

Ok, my GT5 froze 3 times in 2 hours, it started to do that after I started using the custom music option. Again, a really big fail on PD's side, including another feature, which is basically useless. Just imagine you're doing the 24h races and it freezes in the 24th hour, how would you feel about that?

I seriously have the impression that the newer the consoles get (generation), the more unreliable they get.
 
Are you sure it's just the music feature and not a sign of imminent HDD failure? I've been using my custom soundtrack for hundreds of driving hours, not a single freeze.
 
Hm, well of course I am not sure. But the OP had the problem while using the feature, me too. And when he disabled it again, it worked fine, again, in my case the same.
 
It could just be an incompatibility with older PS3s.

Alex p, what model ps3 do you have. mine is a first gen 60 gig.
 
Mine is a relatively new Slim, 120 GB HDD.
 
It's definitely the soundtracks. Certain MP3s 'cause problems, I haven't figured out why but several of mine constantly freeze the game for no reason despite meeting the criteria.
 
Good to hear (for me at least, no offence), that means my ps3 runs fine still and I hope it will survive the damned grind fest, this game requires you to do, to reach lvl 40.
 
Are MP3s that you rip off of CDs safe? I mean rip them from the CD directly onto the PS3? I would be willing to burn 700 songs onto CDs if it means I don't have to listen to the stock music over and over.
