After a game freeze, I turned off the PS3 and tried to turn it back on, but nothing. SO I called technical support, went through a bunch of stuff, after a while it goes to a red flashing light in the front, the guy tells me the PS3's basically dead, and I have to send it in for like a $125 charge and MAYBE get it fixed, or buy a new PS3. FML.

Bye bye newly earned X1 that I never got to drive. :nervous:

If I do get a new PS3, what model would you recommend? (as in most reliable)

I heard the 120 GB Slim models are the best...?

Man, that is so unlucky, especially when you can't copy your data over, I'm hoping my old 20GB will last longer. By the way, your PS3 is more likely to brake playing GT5 than any other game, so, I'm worried about mine deeply! :nervous:

It's like once GT5 freezes - You know the time has come.

Of course it did, it could never just be that it was time for it to give up and GT5 just happened to be the game in there at the time, cause it wouldn't have died if anything else was in there would it

But on a slightly less sarcastic and more serious note, that does suck big time but keep your hard drive for your new one and you should be fine. As for which one, as far as I'm aware all Slims are the same appart from Hard drive size so just go with what you can afford.

Well, during the process the support guy took me through, it said on one screen that the data could have been corrupted... so is it still worth keeping the hard drive in case my GT5 data is still on there?

If so, how do I get the hard drive out of the PS3?

Sorry mate, there has been a lot of threads regarding this issue and all of them has been closed,I don't know exactly which thread has this topic but this thread is making a bit of spamming, thread reported, sorry.

If you're not going to send it back, keep it.
I don't know exactly how, but I think it's as simple or simpler than 2 screws and pulling it out. I know it's very very easy to remove.

Thanks, I'll google how to do it. :) Didn't think it was that easy.

just type in "how to remove ps3 hard drive" in google and you will get results. seems very easy.

My PS runs cooler than with other games because I have my game loaded to the hard drive. My disc spinning is what creates the heat and I don't have that with GT5.

You noticed that too? I've been checking mine for how hot it may be, and I swear it's running 20+ degrees cooler with GT5 in.

Yeah, it wasn't even warm, though. I had been playing for maybe 30 minutes and this happened. :(

Damn mate, that sucks :S My GT5 is freezing too, but i think it freezes when you open the XMB bar at the middle of a loading screen, that makes the freeze. In GTA IV is the same, but it puts the game only if a longer loading screen. The best PS3 to you to buy is the one if most GB's, because the more the better.

I doubt it was GT5 causing it. It was just his time to go. And I don't understand why this thread would be reported? Strange.

Unlucky mate, this just highlights the fact they need to bring that back up save data patch out like they said.

I don't believe it's actually GT5. Every single time a new game comes out people's PS3s die. It does suck and I am sorry for your loss but blaming the game doesn't make sense.

OK... this just happened to me as well. I would shut if off including the switch in the back for a day or so, then put a blast of canned air near the back vents to get the dust out, then put a fan facing the back vents to keep it cool enough to last a little while. Then go to system settings -> backup utility if you can turn it on, and then back it up. This worked for me, I'm really not sure if it would happen for every PS3 or if it was just a lucky fluke. But it's definitely worth trying.

Get on of the new slim models, they run cooler and quieter :D
